Fuuka needs 1.6gb ram to run 5 boards, with Sphinx set at one minute. We're running 6+6 threads each board, 6 cgi-perl instances, and we set stupidly fast refresh time.
That's not considering the MySQL, that if set for performance, will very fast spawn a dozen of threads and occupy more RAM.

In other words, you need 2GB to avoid swapping and ending up in a lockup. In the end, 3GB+ if you have other things on the server, like PHP running and a consistent site.

I'm now working at making the fetcher threads go to sleep when they are not needed, but that's in Java, so nobody will like it.

Will you keep mantaining the Fuuka code? #
Yes and no.

Fuuka is written in Perl, that while it's not a dead language in general, it is for web development. Who has tried installing Fuuka, surely noticed how precarious is the support by webservers for Perl. That reflects its popularity in the field.

Therefore, we won't mantain Fuuka, and we'll go on creating a new version from scratch, that we'll call "FoOlFuuka", licensed under Apache 2.0. This new version will have a PHP interface, and a Java fetcher.

We are positive that using PHP will drastically lighten the processor use through the much more flexible and stable PHP-FPM, and the use of Nginx – that most Fuuka's are using. We'll be able to implement caching very easily, and we already have a very mature framework based on CodeIgniter that we'll use to provide comprehensive administration panel, exotic services as autoupdates and an API for userscript developers.

We are also positive that using Java for the fetcher will help reducing the need of RAM, by having variable numbers of threads, and a single controller for all of them.

There will be also user-interface enhancements, but nothing that could be called "Web2.0". These will be very discrete or opt-in. Notably, it will feature a complete clone of the Fuuka interface, not to break userscripts.

Copy even a comma from this page and we'll sue the fuck out of you.

Are you talking about the "*-threads" settings, oniichan?

Eh, but you can do that in perl, you only need a few modifications for checks and such to improve the script.

Bwaka's perl scripts runs fine. I'm digging through the perl modules for now since I want to write a native "backwash" type system. I could do it in javascript though I suppose, but might as well learn more about the modules.

If /b/ackwash is a postref hover script (assume it is), you can't really implement that without... Javascript.

I meant as in everything within a .js file instead of a javascript statement to deal with that, I know I can get it to do a equality check for op backlinks and such features without having to use javascript.

I will write it in javascript, since that'd be best, but I still want to play around and properly understand how the system works so I can quickly adjust the system and do improvements if anything should change.

I was actually looking through the modules when the image server was changed so I knew what to change quite quickly.

You mean 4chan's image server? Shouldn't changing that be as simple as changing the URL in the config .pl?

Not saying it was hard just knowing where it was handy in quickly fixing things.
Its shoved away in Yotsuba.pm, it isn't too obvious where it is, unless you already know what perl module the url is in and while I could probably of taken time to look at code to find which perl module to change, I found out quite quick meaning I lost very few thumbs.

I most just touch the board-config.pl, cgi-board.pl and templates.pl more than the modules since you hardly need to do anything with them really.

Mind specifying the change? I just realized I'm losing thumbnails after a day or so.

>> No.8095164

What happened with the thumbnail server? Didn't see any changes personally.

>> No.8095172

>>8095157
You want to go into Yotsuba.pm and change
the img_link to:
img_link=>"http://0.thumbs.4chan.org/$1",

>>8095164
just what the red notice says server migration, they moved the image server, the only change on 4chan is faster uploading apparently and when it was being migrated a short time where the thumbs didn't appear.

I still don't get why you need to edit fuuka if nothing 'really' changed

>> No.8095254

for the thumbnail? because the old url points to the old images server, it won't grab the thumbnails if you don't change the url.
for any other edits I mean in the case of changes like migrations that might mean i need to do more than just change a url and then just general improvements.
Is Eksopl still maintaining the code? I'm just wondering since the bug reports go there and if ekspol or anyone else isn't maintaining the code it won't be much use sending bug reports.

Thank you, thankfully the only thumbnails irrecoverably lost were just the usual advertisement spam that gets deleted.

Uh, he committed a fix for the image server bug shortly after it first occurred.
