Umm I guess, in of itself, new TYPE-MOON thread?

Hey /jp/, Nasuverse newbie here. I must first of all say, fuck you to whoever recommended I watch Kara no Kyoukai. It basically made me jump into the rest of Type-Moons works now and I have been playing them non-stop. I have now so far beaten all of Tsukihime, Fate/Stay Night, and am about to start Hollow Atarexia with my copy of Fate/Extra and Unlimited Codes currently being shipped to me.

Just had a simple question for those of you who followed Type-Moon back in the day of their beginnings/infancy when they were still just a doujin label.

Why back then did Nasu (if it was his choice) choose to include ero-scenes in Tsukihime and F/SN when the story could have easily done without them?

For example, Hisui and Tohaku are synchronizers whose are able to give power through the exchange of bodily fluids. So blood, saliva, and of course sexual intercourse. But doesn't that last one just sound like a cheap excuse to add porn into your game? It could have easily been done with just drinking blood or spit-swapping.

Naturally the same thing with F/SN. In the "fate" route Shirou can give Saber more "essence" by having sex with her; but once again that just seems like a cop-out excuse for the author himself because he couldn't think of anything else.

I guess the tl;dr version is: Since later Type-Moon's series and spin-offs have sold ridiculous amounts now without the inclusion of adult content, why were they included in their first big works?

For money? Attention? Because it was being sold at Comiket which is known for porn?

If no one knows the answer fine, it was just bugging me. Enjoy your day.

It wasn't expected to popular, so he threw in (Horrible) H-Scenes to try and make it popular.

(Or he wouldn't have the support needed unless it was an Eroge.)

Because it needed to fall into a category with avid followers and enthusiasts. Considering the low production values, it would most likely have gone under the radar of most of everyone. But the eroge followers at least looked at it due to being in the same catalog as their other interest titles, and possibly thought, hey, vampires and magic, and I can give that a shot.

The eroge market is sometimes seen as an early stepping stone because it has enough dedicated people who splurge money into it.
Utawarerumono's story is kinda similar, apparently the author wanted to just make a strategy game but he was convinced to release it as eroge first to build up a fanbase and move from there.

>> No.8088082

You're too used to the idea that sex is somehow something to be kept in the closet. It's just another part of life, like eating breakfast.

However, I do agree that the particular timing in the Type-Moon works was quite jarring. So yes, sales was a factor, but rather than to gain attention, it is to prevent attention. Many eroge purchasers expect h-scenes and refuse to buy ones that don't have any. To not include sex scenes would be what would grab attention in a negative way to the market. Of course, after it became more popular and spawned animes and spinoffs it had a wider market so it didn't need to rely on such perceptions anymore.

Also, while I felt their presence were unnecessary, it makes sense in Fate universe, which is heavily based on mythology. Semen was believed in some countries to have magical properties and was the source of life. Therefore, it makes perfect sense for it to be the currency of mana exchange.

Ok, there's 2 good things about FS/N.

One of them is having sex with king Arthur for no other reason than saving the life of hundreds if not thousands.

And the other is this part, pic related, that made me burst in laught for a good 5 minutes that made me lose my boner, but worth it

So if you remove the sex what remains?
An angsty protagonist trying to save the world from an enemy that still he doesn't know, cooking scenes about they argue about who has the privilege to make dinner tonight and at the end the MC pooping swords out of nowhere to give finnals that couldn't be classified as nothing else than "Deus ex machina".

To make FS/N good they should had:
-Remove Shiro and put someone like Rance.
-Remove Caster scenes that doesn't involve Kuzuki Souichirou (Estoic motherfucker was cool).
-Give Lancer 500% more scenes
-Remove fucking assasin(fake)
-1000% more FUCKING Kotomine Kirei
-Gil is ok like it was, but give him some pride in his death in HF
-Remove Sakura or make her totally evil so she get murdered in the end
-Zouken is ok
-Shinji should twice as smart and half as douche so he can get something interestant going.
-Rin Half as bitchy or twice as erotic.
-Pooping swords out of nowhere is no longer an option despite how fucked may be the MC.

OP here. Actually I didn't mind them. I was just more surprised that their later works have kept them omitted. I guess that's what happens when you became a famous publisher.

I guess what originally got me was Nasu wrote the Kara no Kyoukai novels and those didn't have any in it, so I guess it was just surprising when I saw them in Tsukihime and F/SN.

Not a big deal was just curious.

It might be somewhat of a hit or miss deal, but honestly, to argue to replace/remove Shirou honestly wouldn't serve much purpose.

He is a huge centerpiece of most of all plotpoints going on in the entire story, and his ideals and tidbits surrounding them as well as the past and outlook on the future is what the focus lies on, and in one way or another, the core of all routes respectively.

You can't really remove that and call it the same work, or even the same kind of work.
Now, I might argue that F/SN could have been a great Otome game, but if such changes were made, then honestly, it wouldn't even resemBLE F/SN anymore. If anything, the premise of young girls and bishies to summon even more bishie males from legend and a couple of prideful women with bishies behind them, all pinned up in a fabulous magical ritual, could have made up for a great otome game. but that's not really what F/SN is, so it wouldn't really be a change, it would simply be something else.

Shirou is most likely in one way or another, connected to the main reasons the majority of the peoople who likE F/SN actually like it, even, if, they perhaps don't directly enjoy the portrayal of the character in question.

I guess it's just the medium and attached expectations. Eroges are expected to have sex scenes, light novels usually aren't.

Speaking of Kara no Kyoukai, like it F/SN was originally supposed to have a female protagonist as well. That's the real reason for the whole "Why is King Arthur a girl? Japan loves genderbending!" Saber was originally written as a guy, it's Shirou that was the girl.

But with a larger audience, they felt the main audience might be unable to relate to a female protagonist, so they swapped their genders. I wonder how the h-scenes through the routes would have gone if they kept their original genders...

I don't particularly like ero scenes, but if they add something to the story I don't mind. But in FS/N it feels so forced and cheap it's not even funny.
Yes, I agree that EROgames are called erogames because of ero. But it didn't need to be one. It could have been just a SFW visual novel.
Porn is good in games about generic male protagonist suddenly transferring to an all girls school and suddenly being ultra popular with everyone. But a series with actual story which doesn't rely on porn like FS/N could do very well without it. And definitely not if it's in a form of a cheap throw in just to appeal to a bunch of drooling otakus who need to fap furiously or else they are not able to enjoy anything.

Neither is cooking. Or comedy for that matter. Why does everything need to be crucial to the plot? Frankly I find comedy in dark situations more out of place than sex.

Honestly, if I write sex into the next story I work on that isn't centered on romance, I'll treat it like any other daily grind activities. Eat, play a game, post on not!/jp/, sex, go back to sleep. Characters rolls mental dices to decide randomly but falls back asleep out of boredom. Nothing out of the ordinary. To hell with prudishness!

Also, sex IS crucial to the plot of Heaven's Feel.

>Porn in FS/N isn't.
A lot of things aren't crucial for the plot if you want to be anal about it. Slice of life scenes? Random talking while fighting? Sex with the heroine has more relationship development then either of those. The only reason it gets removed at all is because of prudes like you who panic at the idea of having to see graphic sex because they might be criticized for it.

It doesn't really work that way, you're conveniently leaving out games that are at the top of multiple charts while being full of ero, like Sengoku Rance

The numbers on say, Getchu, or something, is quite notably different. All while popular titles may remain popular, the charts are, very, different.

VNDB really is a western thing. And well, not really better at Japanese VNs, than say, Gamefaqs in on Doujin games.

But the thing is, it's not a couple who has sex just because they love each other. Or not even two people who do it just because. It works like:

>Sex!

Are you seriously complaining he didn't just put sex in it "just because" but actually tried to find an explanation for it, after complaining the sex wasn't crucial to the plot?
This is distilled retardation.

You say not as well received.
Umineko didn't even sell 1/10 of Higurashi and every ports bombed.
The only reason it got a lot of art in pixiv is because it managed to attract a solid female fanbase.

this is just Fate's first scene
in UBW Rin liked him since forever and is using the mana thing as much as an excuse as anything, in Heaven's Feel Sakura is the same, hell by Fate's second scene even Saber loves him
you're stupid

Okay, it may be the case. But my point was that those titles, which aspire to leave the otaku zone and gain a wider audience, are either SFW to begin with or have their contents cut.
Sengoku Rance is nowhere near FS/N in terms of general popularity and FS/N would never gain as much popularity if it wasn't for anime, manga and numerous spin offs.

I know it bombed comparing to Higurashi. But manga sells well enough to continue adapting every arc one by one, even the tips. The console port sold poorly, but it was enough to warrant the continuation and further psp ports. Even the fighting game got ported and is getting a sequel.
Would they really care so much if it wasn't worth it?
I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to make anime S2 too.

No. I wouldn't like that either. But somehow fuck buddies feel more natural than "we must fuck so my semen will replenish your magical points".
But okay, you think it's justified and that's cool.

I just found the sex scenes pointless. I've only played a few routes in Tsukihime and F/SN. The story was enough. Really it was, I love Tsukihime's story a lot. Fate/Stay Night not as much but it's still a very in depth story. To think of any, I suppose sex with Arcueid wasn't so bad since she and Shiki really seemed to care for one another but with Saber it was really uncomfortable to watch. Also, why do they always have to have a hymen? I'm sick of seeing blood come out of the vaginas. Hymens can be broken in other ways too, even rigorous field hockey or something. Seeing the blood come out grosses me out really. I like nosebleeds but not hymen blood.

Good evening sir, it seems you just took an opportunity to cheap shoot someone first, and then a game you didn't like because it wasn't casual enough. May I ask you to consider sticking to your casual easy as noob games while I play games with anti-noobish gameplay? Or in any case, could you explain your opinion? It's easy to just cheap shoot and insult a game that didn't accept a noob getting their hands on it, but please remember not every game is a button smash fest. Of course this is just my point of view on the games you probably play, a bit of speculation really, after all you have yet to give an explanation on why you dislike Daiteikoku.
Very well then, signing off for now, an Anonymous /jp/ poster.
