Something I've wondered about. Go to /a/ and call them weeaboos, they'll tell you they're all here. Come here and say the same thing, you'll say they're all there.

So where are they?

But I don't see any weeaboo threads in there except for those free tickets to Japan.

I saw a few in here, but not much.

Why are we here if we hate weeaboos?

>> No.8020221

The truth is, the real weeaboos aren't actually on 4chan. People wish they were somewhere around here, though, so they could easily point over to some other board and go "look, look at these fucking retards, at least we're not them". If you point to Gaia and say that though, it's like, big deal, you might as well say the sky's blue, no one's going to even care or argue. Also Gaia's "over there", as in no one's willing to go off site to really bother, but, if they can conveniently link to another board, then they'll do that try to rope in whatever they can here, and also as part of the ever-retarded board rivalry motif.

The definition of weaboo is somewhat unique per individual, and can easily change with time/experience. For me, I'd loosely summarize it as "someone who doesn't really know a lot about Japanese culture, much less anime/j-pop culture, but pretends or desperately wishes they did"... /a/ would fit the bill better, but just barely. You never see people arguing about subs vs dubs here, or going through great pains to assert that Naruto has some kind of merit to it etc, yet, you'll see these things at least once every few days (if not daily) on /a/. So it's like, /a/ weab infiltration: 0.001%. /jp/ weab infiltration: 0.0001%. Our population's orders of magnitude smaller than them and thus simply less likely to rope in outsiders to ask these kinds of things (as I said, the true weaboos aren't even from here) + we very much talk about things that would "gross out" weaboos (since they're often still normalfags on the inside and have a very inaccurate/warped view of things since they're new/ignorant).

Weeaboo right here.

I "want to be Japanese" because if I was Japanese, I would know Japanese by now. Wouldn't have to rely on translators and convince myself that I'll get around to learning the language one day.

Your definition of weeaboo is wrong then. Because if you rope in the people who want nothing to do with cons, fucking hate people who cosplay in public etc, as also paradoxically still being the same as them, you're simply over-simplifying the truth.

If your brain can't process that there's a lot more than one type of group of person who likes these kinds of things, you're very much not worth bothering correcting since you'll probably just loop a broken record of childish logic over and over. You only learn of the differences with time spent studying these things on your own, and I can't push the clock forward for you.

What I got was a whole lot of conflicting answers. I have seen three separate definitions of weeaboo, someone claiming there aren't weeaboos here, someone claiming there are only some weeaboos here, someone even identifying themselves as weeaboo and a whole lot of frustration that seems in my humble opinion to be a sign of dishonesty on /jp/'s part.

If you couldn't tell that anyone who would call themselves weeaboo here = troll, you really don't know the first thing about this place or even 4chan for that matter.

NO ONE wants to be weeaboos. No one will ever just say "well yup I'm a total weeaboo" if they know even the most elementary things about the word. Weaboos are the boogeyman, they are just as big a thorn in the side for us as they are to anyone else with their idiocy. In fact we probably hate them a lot more than you do since they're directly responsible for making us look bad. And by us I mean everyone who treats this like any other sane person treats their hobbies... keeps it to themselves, doesn't force it into conversation or try to talk about it with disinterested people etc.

Weeaboos break all these taboos; it is the breaking of these very simple social rules that is also the same reason furries and bronies are hated so much - they interact in a way that suggests they won't like you or want to talk to you unless you like what they like, and it comes off as coercive and self-centered and socially retarded for not introducing yourself as a normal person and all other manners of bad. I'm betting there'll be some psychological terms for these manners of behavior, if there isn't one already. Because whatever that terms is, is the heart of the problem of why certain fandoms get so goddamn annoying.

>> No.8020293

/a/ is full of newbies to anime and Japanese topics in general, to the point that some of them still view themselves as normalfags and can diss even the most popular anime as "too otaku" and not fitting their (supposedly) mainstream tastes. Quite obviously, getting interested in things past anime, especially those awful immoral eroge or all those assorted girly things, must look like a sign of extreme geekiness to them.

/jp/, on the other hand, is full of jaded nihilists with little interest in Japan other than a few select "otaku culture" topics that tend to not exist outside of it. We are also, however, more versed in said topics and all the necessary baggage of facts about the country and culture needed to understand them, so we view /a/ as a den of weeaboos in the traditional sense - people who learn about Japan solely from anime, and are both deluded and completely ignorant about it as a result.

In a way, both are correct.

>> No.8020297 [DELETED]

You guys are forgetting one thing.
You can only be a weeaboo if you're white.
Wigger = white nigger
Wapanese = white japanese

If I felt the need, I could be as much of a faggot as I wanted and I could still never be classified as weeaboo.

>anyone who would call themselves weeaboo here = troll

You must be new to /jp/, not to mention language, culture and society as a whole.

People tend to adopt the labels that are meant to insult them as a way of trivializing the associated stigma. "Weeaboo" is no exception. It's long been directed at anyone interested in any kind of Japan-related topic, and as a result became a self-descriptive term for said people interested in any kind of Japan-related topic. Some are still being ironic about it, but a lot of us simply don't care.

This includes not caring what you think, in particular. I'm not even commenting on the "someone who does not follow my self-invented strict rules of conduct is a troll" part. You're a sad person, I'd rather you not posted here much.

This is a legitimate question. If you want to know what a weeaboo is, tell us what you mean by weeaboo. Don't expect us to interpret. If you don't accept us saying we aren't weeaboos, because it's because your definition of weeaboo contains a clause specifying anyone who plays touhou or reads VNs as that. In which case, yes, I'm a weeaboo.

/jp/ doesn't play the rules of language, culture, and society. If we were required to be civil we might say, "yes, we're weeaboos, what are you going to do about it." But we aren't, so instead we call them pieces of shit who should go out and make friends, get laid, or commit suicide instead of coming to /jp/ to act like pretentious shitdicks.
