You could always buy seperate parts and put one together yourself. An Obitsu body is maybe twenty-five bucks and the heads are around ten bucks without hair, but I have no idea on the price of rooted heads or wigs. Face decals can be printed by the page for cheap as well.

Just need clothes which can be found easily all over.

Doll Zone are fairly reputable from what I understand. I recently got my first SD size doll (from Impldoll) and was impressed with the size and the price was not bad at all either. ($350 I think?). Only downside was ordering her at the beginning of August and just getting her on Friday, but that's pretty standard with ball jointed dolls since they are made to order. Unless you have gdlk skills I don't really recommend it. The standard heads are well, boring and bland. Creating your own faceup from a blank head is tough. Your easiest route to success (which a lot of people do) is to buy a limited DD, then swap the wigs, eyes, clothes. Those are interchangeable at any time.

tl;dr the most valuable part of a limited DD is usually the face mold and faceup.

Standard dollfie dreams cost 400-500. They are boring.

Limited DDs such as Touhou Reimu and Marisa, etc. typically go for around 700-800 dollars when sold direct from Volks. Expect to pay more in auctions aftermarket (depends on popularity)

A large part of those costs probably go to licensing. The body of the doll costs around $200 already, so do the math. Outfits cost over $100 depending on complexity, and limited DDs also include wigs, eyes, and of course the special look of the character it's supposed to be. Relative to the price of the standard DD's Aoi and Yukino, the premium isn't too high (when buying from volks).

ordering from Volks would be the best alternative since you'll be paying the exact price. Aftermarkets you can expect to be hit with an inflation.

Upcoming releases are Saber Nero from Fate / Extra and Saber Alter. You can still preorder them until the end of October, and release is June 2012 from Volks USA (slightly earlier for Volks JP). It was delayed a bit to this time because of the large volume of preorders for the Sabers. Also, Volks USA is allowing you to make a down payment for now, and pay the rest in Feb-Mar.

If Sabers are not your cup of tea then the next DDs to be made are Sakura Taisen. No pictures are available of them yet.

If you want one of the already released DDs (basically everything else), you will probably be looking at the aftermarket on mandarake or yahoo auctions JP. Expect to pay a premium here, it just depends on which DD is valued more. Most expensive ones include Sasara, Tamaki, Yuki Morikawa, FSN Saber, and Saber Lily. Saber Alter used to be up there in that list too but Volks has re-released her in the upcoming batch. Rereleases are rare and don't really happen so don't expect it to happen for the others.

I heard about having to take care of it like brushing it's hair and all of this. A little info about me though, my hands are naturally shaky as fuck, which usually leads me away from even figmas and nendoroids. Would my shaky hand syndrome be a danger for my soon-to-be first dollfie?

since you're ordering from volks they should, the option parts are body specific though.
Just the usual advice of ,don't leave it in the sun, avoid touching the front of the face, don't let it get dusty, be gentle when combing hair, be careful with clothes that have strong colors etc.

For the most part yes.
If you have regular DD obviously DDdy or MDD option parts aren't meant for it. DDS option parts most likely only fit on DDS bodies.

I don't think shaky hands will be any danger, unless your knock the doll into a blender or something.

Adding on to what's been said... Avoid touching the face, you will wear down the protective layer and that could damage the faceup over time.

Not sure if the sun thing applies to DDs since they're vinyl and not resin. It's probably not a good idea to keep them in the blazing sun anyway though.

Any sort of dark colours can pose stain hazards. Solution is to either:
1. not care and let the body stain (can be treated, or you could replace the body)
2. use body stocking (not 100% proof)
3. treat the clothing (washing, soaking in vinegar to run excess dyes out)
4. avoid dark clothing. Not using it, or only using it for very short periods of time

I should probably mention that dark wigs can stain the head too. Not the hairs themselves but the threads on the base "hat" portion of the wig. Just use a wig cap and this won't happen.

I'm buying the Sakuya DD in a fortnight to a month, wish me luck!

I love the SQ-LAB heads. I plan to get this one in the coming months for my first doll.
