Alright /jp/, I CAN'T clear EoSD on lunatic. I've been putting in my fair share of practice and dedication now for the past month and a half. I've watched replays, I do the best I can to use all my bombs, and I'm using the Vsync patch, but I always end up in the same spot (beginning to mid Remilia battle). What makes me so incompetent of completing this objective, what am I doing wrong?

I have to apologize /jp/, for always coming here to vent about my touhou problems. You guys have always been a great help in the past.

-Work on Jack the Ludo Bile, its an easy capture.
-On Sakuya's opener in stage 6, don't stick down at the bottom of the screen. Stay higher up so the red bullets don't trap you.
In terms of resources, you're probably going to need ~3 lives going into the last stage, mainly because of the last spellcard. Good luck.

Stage 1: Before you do anything else, practice it for a bit on Lunatic to get used to your hitbox. Stream bullets, take out Rumia.
Stage 2: Use a bomb in the beginning to get rid of the enemies and pick up all the items on the screen. Try to get MAX power as early as possible. Stream more, beat Cirno.
Stage 3: This is where you stop being a showoff shithead and start abusing the Shift key. Bomb Meiling's midboss card if you aren't 101% sure you can capture it. Same for her last card. You shouldn't have lost a single life by now.
Stage 4: Place your character in the mid-left section of the screen and get ready to shoot the three fairies before they leave their magic circles behind. Stream the bullets with very slight movements. Again, if you aren't 101% sure you can dodge the green bullets, bomb. Koa is a joke. Wait a whole second before you start shooting the fairies that clear bullets when they die. Patchu's cards are all about distractions. Focus on one type of projectile and try dodging the other unconsciously. This applies to cards like Sylphae Horn, Agni Radiance, Water Elf, Emerald Megalith, etc. You should be ready to bomb before you get in trouble; if you think it MIGHT hit you, chances are it will, bomb.

7994441

>>7994439
Stage 5: Stream. stay still when the big directed arrays of bullets are shot, otherwise, focus on the small, random ones. Try to take everything out before they shoot too many bullets. In Sakuya's midcard stay still in the bottom-left-ish area and move only to dodge something that's directed at you. Stay in the same position and dodge the bullshit afterwards. Sakuya will force you to heavily dodge, it's up to your reflexes now. Her cards all have "safe" spots. When she starts redirecting bullets during timestop, she essentially thins out her own clusters, so they should be easier to dodge. Again, when in doubt, bomb.
Stage 6: I'll let you have the joy of figuring that one out yourself; besides, if you get this far, you unlock the stage in Practice Mode. Starting the stage with two lives should be more than enough. Never lose a life with unused bombs.

Just recently completed my first Normal 1CC of PCB. (Sakuya A lol) [Discovered the vpatch later that day; fantastic timing.]

From there I've been playing a little of everything alongside Extra(SA mostly.)
What is generally considered the best path to take, gradually increase difficulty on familiar games, work on a 1CC of everything, or play nonstop on lunatic until I stop sucking?

A little technical tip I'll share for anyone using Xpadder to play with a stick or pad. (Not using DirectInput.)
For the love of god, hit the little wrench icon to the right of the profile name and set the 'key tap time' as low as it goes.

By default, Xpadder has a 100ms (which is actually quite a bit in terms of control) minimum keypress duration. This means very fine movement is made much more difficult.

I've found this mentioned nowhere on the internet in conjunction with touhou, which is surprising.

Since I made the change, everything feels much more responsive. Of course, this might be some sort of placebo effect, so I encourage others to try it out and see if it helps.

>> No.8011597

Last words appear by getting the goal amount of Time points or more. To get Time points you want to shoot enemies unfocused in human move or graze bullets in youkai mode (the bar is in the bottom left corner to let you know which mode you are in). You move the bar by doing the same thing that gets you time points as well. A small amount of time points will be given after a spell card on bosses too.

Don't worry about last words too much, I mean they are nice for grabbing some more points for maybe an extra life but after the first or second stage it is rather risky to attempt getting enough time points.

Nah, not even then. If you work the stages right (burst familiars for loads o' time and stay unfocused as much as possible) you don't really need to do much grazing at all during boss fights, just incidental stuff. Reisen might be an exception, but that's because she's got that one incredibly grazable noncard, you may as well do that one.

But yeah, I guess it's not that big of an issue. Time only matters if you're continuing or going route B and want to see all of Kaguya's last words.

Made a replay of my general approach to stages. Got all Last Words with no real time-farming from graze or anything risky.

The main things to keep in mind is that breaking groups of familiars by destroying the host (use the youkai for that, so you don't kill the familiars) and Spell Card bonuses are your main sources of Time. It's really really important not to get hit on Spell Cards, since it costs you both some time because of the death(bomb) as well as the bonus time. 'Course, if you're going for survival, you're trying to do that anyways, but oh well.

>>8011782
I've never done it with the border team but everyone else claims that they have the easiest shot type for IN so you might want to give them a try.

- I'd recommend getting used to holding down your shift button more often in many circumstances. You had a death bomb on Mystia and a death on Keine because of this especially with magic team's unfocused speed.

- On Keine I would recommend staying unfocused on her beginning noncard and her last noncard because if you kill off some of the familiars you are going to have a much easier time during the rest of the noncard when Keine is moving around.

Honestly I didn't see too much wrong with your replay but then again I'm not the best at IN nor know the most tricks, someone else might help you out better here. I'd like to compliment you on your death bombs, you seem to know when you are about to die and have a good reflex for that. As always, practice makes perfect so keep at it.

Thanks for the critiques. It's good to hear that at least there's nothing terribly wrong with my fundamentals.

1) I may go back to border, I hope to do all shot-types eventually. Right now I'm using Magic team mostly for their POC benefits. I do admit that focus Alice being extremely narrow frustrates me a lot, especially on Reisen, where If I get steered away from her, there is a long 'pacifist' section before I can navigate back to doing damage.

2) I'm trying to get better about being able to do a lot more interswitching between focused and not. I used to basically do focus whenever the slightest difficulty showed up, and all the time in boss fights. I think I've swung the other way too far, not using focus nearly enough until things get really hard in the later stages.

3) Now that you mention it, I did notice on that one Keine non-spellcard, that popping a few of those familiars did make a dramatic difference. Good call. I'll experiment a bit more there.

Yeah, I'll keep plugging away till I get it. I think the 6A/6B division is making me more focused on getting the 1cc now, rather than putting it off until after having cycled through all the games on normal credit-feed, only 1cc-ing normal when I come back and do hard mode credit-feed playthroughs, which is pretty much how I handled my easymodo 1ccs. At first I hated that splitting implementation, but now, I'm not so sure.

I assume he meant that when you pop the master, he thought the familiars only dropped the same amount of time that they would have dropped if you'd killed the familiars individually and then the master. I am basing this off of the fact that that was my assumption as well.

But the familiars only drop a few time points when you shoot them directly, whereas they drop a ton when you pop them. It's really noticeable.

I don't know. I thought they dropped different colored orbs, like the blackish ones versus the purple ones, and never bothered looking to see exactly what got added to my tally. I have no real excuse, I guess?

So, I don't know whether to move on to Hard mode or keep pressing on with the Extras. I can't seem to get past the halfway mark on most of the extras with SA Extra being particularly cruel. Hard mode I'm doing okay on most of them except for UFO Hard, haven't tried SA Hard yet but I suspect it'll crush me.

>> No.8020046

>>8019092
In my opinion, SA extra is the hardest. TD extra is close to it. SA and UFO are both pretty hard games, but you will get them if you keep trying. Do both extra and hard, alternating when you get bored of the other. Some extras should be easy, even for normal mode players.

Okay, so. Almost every actual spell card in the Final B is strictly patterned and there are several ways to make the spell card easier.

SA Hard is infinitely easier than UFO Hard.

Well so far the only extra I've cleared is PCB Extra for the record. The other extras, I usually get around the 5th main boss spellcard until I'm done for, while I can't even get past Koishi's first one in SA extra. As for Hard mode, currently I can get to stage 6 in TD, around stage 5 in PCB, stage 4 in MoF, stage 2 in UFO and I haven't even tried EoSD or IN Hard mode yet. I should probably go for TD Hard, but after that I'm stuck. I don't even dare try StB since I can't get past level 7.

Very useful so far. Thank you kindly.

This helped me to finally get Dragon's Necklace:

It was taking forever (over 100 tries since watching your strategy, I'd tried it an even 250 before that), so I tried switching shot patterns to see if I just sucked too badly, or what. Turns out I managed to get it twice in 50 tries with Border Team, lol. This gave me the confidence to go back and do the other150 or so tries I needed.
(Border Team): http://replays.gensokyo.org/download.php?id=16511

Now I just need to unlock the others and practice them. I don't think Last Spells are necessary. I will gladly fail them because they won't cost me the run, and I never really figured out those on Easy either.

It's a tough card for me. I don't know what else to say.

Marisa solo only took 27 attempts, similar ratio as with Border Team. I think maybe it's just Alice giving me the trouble.

Rod Sign #600 and how it ended.

I haven't been grinding this game like I used to, and so I wasn't used to the gameplay on this run. Otherwise, I would have had a better shot. This run had its moments, but I was keeping it on life support in the later stages. It wasn't that good overall.

I really need to memorize that spellcard. It is static, after all. I just never use practice mode. Out of everything I have unlocked, MarisaB stage 6 is the one thing missing.

Honestly, I expected this to be much easier. I guess that's MarisaB for you.

In IN, there are several modes to pick.

There is the infamous Easy mode with 8+ lives.
There is the most commonly played Normal mode.
There's the Lunatic mode, played by some more dedicated players.
And then there is the Insane Masochist mode, more commonly known as "Alice solo".

So, let's see what Alice solo gives you:

* Awesome attack that penetrates enemies. It's actually usable in about... 3 portions in several stages.
* However, the attack sadly is very narrow, like, uhh.. Narrow. But hey, it penetrates enemies. That TOTALLY makes up for it being narrow.
* Your extremely narrow lazor beam is not like lazor beams usually are. (E.g. Marisas Master Spark is a lazor. It actually deals damage. Uhh.. Or maybe, it doesn't deal damage. It fucking slaughters people.) Alice's lazor, however, doesn't do that. It deals some damage, fairly enough damage, in a horribly narrow area.
* Other great features about alice solo are the movements. For most of the time, it feels like you're skating on ice. That's awesome, man.. Until you run into the first bullet in sight.
* For a small puppeteer, and to make up the small hitbox of the attack, Alice herself has a freaking huge hitbox. It's roughly 1/4 of you lazor beams size.

Here's some preview of Alice's awesome gameplay.

I'd totally suggest Alice solo for beginners at Touhou.. Yeah.

If your framerate is under par, it'll have choppy music as well as video since they're emulated together (I guess). Hit f11, check it out.

If you're getting 100%, I guess it's just because the sound emulation isn't working quite right. But it's not tagged as such in MAME, so I don't think that's the case... maybe?

The Futari BL from the link just earlier worked fine for me.I'm also running 1.43, though the UI version.

Mushi and Futari 1.5 are also missing "_u2" and "_u4", but they run regardless.
