Ladies and Gentlemen, as the OP of the previous thread which self-destructed a few moments ago, I would like to apologize for choosing a Totori~n as poster girl which suffered from a light case of wardrobe malfunction.

To make sure that all of us - even those who start trembling in fear if there's even the slightest hint of a female nipple - can enjoy the thread, and to prevent a mod randomly nuking the thread due to the NSFW op picture, I have decided to reboot it. Considering the thread only had 19 other posts, of which about 50% were random shitposts, I think this course of action is acceptable.

Again, my sincerest apologies for causing such a traumatizing event.

Jokes and sarcasm aside, I actually didn't notice the nipple slip until a lot later since I paid too much attention to the cute face. Otherwise I would have used a different picture. And for the record, I have included the picture in question in this post, though this time with a spoiler.

On a slightly off-topic note: It's kinda funny how easily you get spoiled by GUST games, or rather the fact that you usually get to switch to Japanese voice overs.

Atelier Totori was once a happy place. A young girl, eagerly exploring the world of alchemy, would fulfill mundane requests for the townsfolk, participate in rousing cooking competitions, and bake pies for her little friends. Noticing that I have all five Chims set to making various types of bombs was kind of depressing.

Okay so I'm getting a PS3 next week and I noticed that Ar Tonelico Qoga was $15AUD brand new here, only problem is 1 store that I know of has it in my state. Luckily it's close by and I have Dark Souls to pick up aswell.

Is it any decent? Do I need to have played the first 2 or so to really get into this one or should I be fine? I like RPG games though the reviews seem to be mostly pointing to negative though I don't really care about that.

Though for $15 I can't really go wrong, right?

It is a good idea to play the first two but not entirely necessary if you learn some core things like how hymnos work and what a Reyvatail is.

I enjoyed the game a lot but I was a fanboy before I played AT3, the gameplay elements aren't exactly its strong point and it really isn't challenging. The parts I liked are the VN elements, some of the crafting, purging, and the our god is a glorious god level music that is miles a head of any game I have ever played.

Most reviewers are shit for brains and have the attention span of a goldfish, don't put weight into them.

Its a sony of america 'rule' supposedly that games need to have English dubbing or they will be rejected unless they are on PSN or the company has sufficient power to contest it. They figure that if they are going to have to pay for English dubbing why should they pay the Japanese royalties too? Harvest Moon has a large enough English fanbase that people will buy it anyway, while in something like the games NIS publishes it will get nerdraged on into the next century.
On some psp games they just remove all of the plot dubbing and claim that the story isn't important enough to warrant it, and just dub in some battle sounds or leave them as is so it could be worse.

I call bullshit. Yakuza 3 and 4 are both in Japanese without English voices.
The fact of the matter is that an English dub simply makes a game more accessible to a wider audience.

>> No.7994651

>>7994634
Yakuza 3 and 4 are exceptions, I believe. Nobody has actually confirmed it, but many take it as a fact that Sony forces english dubs on publishers. Hence why the likes of Arcana Heart 3 and Record of Agarest War are PSN-only.

While the dubs do indeed make these games more accesible to the normalfags, from a publisher's standpoint sometimes the risk isn't worth the reward, I'd imagine. English dubs simply make localizing things much more expensive, a cost many publishers would want to avoid when the game's aimed towards a niche audience first and foremost.

Well, it's a little difficult to make a summery as the differing character events aren't exactly dependant on each other chronologically. I'll do my best in explaining Rorona's relationship with the various characters but as I've only gotten the Astrid end, I can't say much about the individual character ends.

Cordelia:
Cordelia has been attempting to help Rorona behind the scenes by placing requests specifically for her, asking for simple items but rewarding a large amount of Cole for them. Her intention was to try to give Rorona enough money to pay back what is owed to Astrid so that she wasn't obliged to work to save the Atelier (and avoid getting evicted/exiled as a result). To help fund the increasing amounts of Cole rewarded, Cordelia was pawning off her clothes and accessories to Tiffani's store. Meanwhile during an alchemy accident, Rorona manages to create a beautiful stone, which she gives to Cordelia as a present. Rorona eventually gets confirmation that Cordelia was behind the requests when Esty spills the beans and confronts Cordelia. Rorona doesn't understand why Cordelia is trying to do this as she's appreciating Alchemy for what it is and helping the townspeople, while Cordelia feels that her efforts to help are not being appreciated and they have a falling out. During the argument, the stone that Rorona gave to Cordelia broke in half. Over the next few weeks, Cordelia asks Astrid if there's any way to repair the stone but as it's a one of a kind and created completely by accident, there's no way to repair or duplicate it. Astrid gives Cordelia the idea to fashion the stone halves into something else while commenting that the stone reminds her of the friendship of two girls that she knows. Cordelia commissions Hagel to create a pair of matching necklaces, giving one of them to Rorona to make up. Best of friends

Wow, that's pretty big. Might need to post one character per post...

Next! Iksel:
Rather bland this one. Iksel was from the beginning kinda jealous that Rorona was in charge of her own Atelier as his ambition was to become a good enough cook to have his own store. During the course of his events, he finds it outrageous that Rorona is able to make such nice dishes using Alchemy, and challenges her to a cooking duel. He loses, which he then uses as motivation to keep on improving. In any case, due to all the interesting ingredients Rorona is able to find while looking for alchemy components, Iksel's cafe gets busier and busier with more customers. He pulls in Rorona to help out with waitressing during some of the busier periods when she pops in to buy/sell some stuff.

That's pretty much it for Iksel's character events. Rather boring really. I think his specific ending isn't all that much more as well since it's more to do about Hagel...

Sterk:
Sterk's motivation to join the knighthood were the stories about knights in shining armour and the like. Only after signing up he finds that most of the stuff he's doing is patrolling, paperwork, prepping town events or trying to make sure the King of Arland is doing what he's supposed to be doing. Needless to say, he's more than a little disillusioned with his job.
Sterk also appears to have some history with Astrid, perhaps helping her when she was learning Alchemy much like how Rorona's friends are helping her. It's also implied that Sterk had a crush on Astrid when Astrid uses a very old letter as blackmail material if Rorona fails the first assignment.
If you had Sterk in Rorona's party a large number of times, you will get an event where Sterk is leaving the castle to join Rorona on another trip, but he's stopped by every named NPC in the town giving him thanks for helping Rorona. The dialogue gives the impression that Sterk is liking the fact that he is being thanked for doing his job.
During the latter half of the game period, Sterk gives Rorona a warning to stay away from the Steyr Highlands as there is a very old and dangerous dragon taking roost there. Astrid remembers this particular dragon and tempts Rorona by telling her that there are rare and valuable materials from the dragon.
If you beat the dragon with Sterk in the party, Rorona will run off to see what ingredients she can get, but the Dragon isn't quite done yet. As it prepares to attack Rorona, Sterk jumps in and shields Rorona, being critically injured in the process.

Back in Arland (and after Astrid helps nurse him back from death's door), Rorona blames herself for what's happened with Esty reassuring her it's ok. Sterk comments to himself about a knight protecting a little girl, using his own body as a shield.

Perhaps with Rorona, he can actually live out his dreams of being a knight.

Lionela's ability is being able to levitate objects. She pretends she's a puppeteer and a ventriloquist to get by, but she normally has to move from town to town when the townspeople start to get suspicious of her performances. Rorona is pretty much the first person who is trying to be friends with her.

Suddenly one day, her two dolls stop moving/talking and she goes to Rorona's Atelier to get help. Astrid gives Rorona a formula for some medicine to make.

This medicine turns out to be a sort of tranquiliser, preventing her from moving, but she is still fully conscious.

It turns out that both of her dolls are split personalities of Lionela. They were created to help relieve her loneliness from not having any friends. They had decided on their own that she'll be ok without them as Rorona is there, and tried to supress themselves. Lionela is proving the voices for them using her skills as a ventriloquist, and they were being animated via her ability to levitate/telekinetically manipulate objects. Lionela herself wasn't aware of this and it's only because of the tranquiliser that she realises this is happening.

Astrid makes her sub-personalities promise to consult with Lionela main about phasing themselves out rather than abandoning her.

If it wasn't obvious enough, Tantoris is Minister Alcock's estranged son, recalled and hired to sabotage Rorona's efforts when he couldn't get the job done himself.

Tantoris couldn't do it either as Rorona somehow bypasses all of his efforts to sabotage. He comes clean and confesses to Rorona that he's been trying to sabotage her Atelier and prepares himself to being exiled from her social circle. However, Rorona being Rorona, misinterprets all that has happened, focusing on Tantaris' flirting with her as trying to distract her by saying all of those embarrassing things, but forgives him on that count, not connecting the dots on the actual acts of sabotage like jacking up the price of ingredients.

Later, Rorona stumbles across a very drunk Minister Alcock outside of Iksel's cafe and he drunkenly babbles on about his problems with trying to shutdown a store, and complaining about his son. Rorona does what she does, trying to help and suggest just speaking with his son about his worries. Tantoris happens by and takes him away.

Tantoris later makes a bet with his father, asking him to let the Atelier stay open as it'll be a bigger benefit to the town than another factory, and in exchange he will agree to be his successor, which is what Alcock was concerned about, not having a successor to his post.

Tantoris stops by Rorona's Atelier, asking her to make a new instrument as his current one is getting rather old and saying that he's leaving the town for a bit. On completing the instrument, they play a duet with Tantoris improvising to cover for Rorona's random playing.

Gio is actually the King of Arland. He regularly slips out of the castle, abandoning his tasks as King much to Sterk's great displeasure.
An event will occur if you have both Sterk and Gio in the party. They will meet at the town gates and start to argue with Sterk accusing Gio of finding any excuse to not do his duties while Gio protests as he was asked by Rorona to help. They drop the argument when Rorona arrives (late) and she misinterprets their anger for each other with being angry at her for being late and apologies profusely as they storm off.
A second event will occur if you shove both Sterk and Gio in the same party again. They both acknowledge that they're working together... again and that Gio is not in the castle doing his administrative tasks again and agree on the fact that there's something about Rorona that compels people to help her but they're still angry at each other. Rorona arrives late... again and apologies to them thinking they're still angry at her for being late.

Gio's actual personal event is a little bit later in the 3rd year. Gio suspects that someone in Arland is providing bandits with machined weapons and explosives, and requests Rorona's assistance with her knowledge of explosives in a raid on a bandit camp. Agreeing to help will reveal that the bandits are being provided the weapons and explosives by Meredith Alcock as a sort of unofficial weapons testing as building proper facilities in Arland would be too expensive. After the successful raid, Gio confronts Meredith, telling him not to do something like that again. Meredith complains to Gio that he's doing all the work, but Gio tells him that he's able to leave the castle, knowing that people like him are holding down the fort. Gio muses that perhaps Arland doesn't need a king.

Not agreeing to help will result in Gio being injured and unavailable for the rest of the game.

Astrid
Astrid is an exceptionally skilled alchemist. Being able to construct a fully sentient homunculus that is able to exhibit human emotions is unheard of, and she would be the 2nd recorded instance of having successfully create a homunculus in the first place.

Astrid's unnamed teacher was somewhat similar to Rorona. A fairly simple person, always happy, always willing to help, but her skills with alchemy were not all that good. She wasn't able to help all that much and as a result, she didn't have a good reputation with the townspeople. When she passed away, Astrid was pretty much the only person who attended her funeral. Because of this feeling of betrayal, Astrid simply refused to do anything, not fulfilling any requests and leading to the point where the Atelier was going to be shut down for not being of any good to the town.

Watching Rorona work to save the Atelier rekindled Astrid's desire to use Alchemy to help others, however she couldn't just start to help because of the bad reputation she had. With that, she decides to leave Arland and travel around, helping towns she travelled to using alchemy.

Astrid Ending:
Meredith agrees not to close down the Atelier. Tantaris is helping with the paperwork, putting forward a report requesting that funding for the Atelier be increased. Meredith agrees to consider it after checking it's not due to a conflict of interest.

Astrid leaves the town as planned, and Rorona is completely swamped with requests and has her friends help her. Hom comments that it's this hectic because Rorona doesn't know how to say 'No' to requests.

Some years later, the work suddenly dried up. Cordelia tells Rorona that it's because a new alchemy workshop has opened in Arland. That workshop is Astrid's and she greets Rorona and warns her that they're rivals now. Rorona is just happy to see her teacher again.

The chances are pretty much non-existent. Their engine, which is pretty refined after 4 games, was designed solely for the Playstation in mind. In order to port it over to PC/Xbox they'd probably need to do a major overhaul to the engine. The 360 market in Japan is pitiful too so it really wouldn't be worth their resources to do such a port. Thanks for the appreciation... there's a few things I forgot to mention mainly because I had to trim and cull to keep some of those entries under the post limit. Some specifics may also be incorrect because I'm going off my memory on them. Anyhow in relations to Totori, the most important background information on characters from Rorona would most likely be Sterk, Gio and Astrid. Sterk's character events in Rorona set up his behaviour and viewpoints in Totori. Gio's background is world setting as it leads directly into why Arland has become a republic. He's also the reason why Sterk is usually in a perpetual bad mood. Astrid's ending can be considered as the 'true ending' so knowing why she's how she is somewhat helpful in understanding a part of Rorona.

Anyhow, I forgot Tiffani, who does have a a re-occuring behaviour with Totori:
Tiffani is a horrible drunk. Not only does she behave wildly when drunk, the worse bit is that she won't remember any of it so she doesn't know how bad it gets when she's drunk. Everyone else in the cafe knows, however and Rorona soon finds out when she's sacrificed by Esty to keep Tiffani occupied... No one else wants to intervene for fear of getting drawn into the mess.

What's the deal with dragon scales? I spent forever stuck on Tanbeash until I started exploring the islands and got the what's-it to make Velvetis. I've explored everything up to the outer islands and just ranked up to Galaxy and no god damn dragon scales. Am I supposed to farm that one fucking dragon for scales or what? Nuts to that.

Now I'm getting close to the festival and I think Peter's gonna pissed. He asks for eight beautiful young girls and I'm bringing along a ghost, three cakes, and three flat lesbian midgets. Let the hilarity ensure.

>Unlikely, the 360 install base in Japan is pretty shitty (last I checked PS3 outsells it 3 to 1) so if you're a Japanese developer you pretty much only develop for the 360 if you think non-weeaboo foreigners would be interested in your games.

Many smaller developers create an xbox 360 version first, and if it is a hit they port it to the 360. The 360 is far, far cheaper to develop for. If you are building a doujin game or have a questionable fan base, you go 360. Truth be told even Konami and Square Enix have done this on some game.

There is far less financial risk, and once you prove there is a market for your product on xbox, you can justify the higher development costs for making a PS3 port.

Also, if Infel Pira fulfils the same purpose as Ar Tonelico does but for IPD reyvateils, where are it's grathnode and parameno discs?

>> No.8008109

>>8007992
The Ar tonelico is more than just a SH server for the reyvateils. It's also a climate control facility, symphonic power generator/distributor and a weapon among other things. The grathnode and parameno discs were used to help process song magic. Two of the discs were reserved for military use, one for government use and the last disc was allocated for civilian use. The discs themselves are not necessary for the functioning of the tower (as evident when reyvateils are still able to do their thing after the Grathnode Inferia)

The Infel Pira was simply a substitute SH server, which created the IPD reyvateils since the Grathnode Inferia cut off communications between the different regions of the world.

Ar Tonelico's grathnode discs may be shattered, but they're still about 30% usable. My guess is Infel Pira, like Sol Marta, simply routes songs through Ar Tonelico's grathnode and parameno discs, but does the processing of the songs itself. Kind of like putting data through the GPU on a computer instead of the CPU to process it.

Also Infel Pira was built about 300 years after the Grathnode Inferia, and IPDs are just reyvateils who use it as their SH server. Nothing to do with communication being cut off by the Grathnode Inferia.

Kishida Mel also did a guest art piece for Mana Khemia 2 but he was short-listed for the Arland series because his artwork was regarded by both male and female fans. Oh just a FYI: Atelier Rorona was originally planned to have a male protagonist, but was changed at the request of the writer partially to go back to the roots and also because it wouldn't seem right to have a guy stirring a pot with a stick. Come on, I knew what that said and I can't read Hymmnos at all. That said, I was thinking the same thing.

I've been having trouble figuring how the 'cost level' for adding in traits works. I am trying to create healing items with Living on them but for some reason and cost level always comes up short. Say I synth a Supplement with Living in it and make a Healing Salve, then tried slapping in items to increase the cost level, but I just cannot reach 5 points. I also tried doing this with that another healing item and I just can't make it. Am I doing something wrong?

You need to make items of higher quality to obtain more points for traits. For 5 points, you'd need a rank B item; something with 60 quality or more.

Differing component items also have an effect on the points for traits. I recall having 6+ points on a Rank B Healing Salve (the first one you make) because I substituted the medicinal herb for something else I had. Also, while making Ingots I ended up with one batch that had 12+ trait points and it was a Rank C upgraded to Rank B once I tacked on the traits.

Just experiment with differing qualities and items.

So... I want to play the new AT on PS3, but I heard its pedo meter is off the charts.

Is the entire game like that? I don't want to feel uncomfortable playing a game.

Which one? Totori or Meruru? Or are you talking about Ar tonelico?

Get out of /jp/. And before someone asks, I'm quoting this normalfag. In any case, its not a very good game. Wannabe star ocean combat sucks.

Okay? Since when was /jp/ a lolicon board?

Touhou canon is not hentai/lolicon, and most Touhou doujin are not lolicon.

You're just trying too hard to look like a hardcore /jp/ otaku. You're the one who should get out.

1/10

A very small percentage of people actually talk about lolicon on this board.
