As someone who really likes to take pictures, I only have an issue with that photo. If your image is not strong enough to stand on its own without being tilted, please do not tilt it to try and add some flare. The composition will still be bad, except now it will be bad and oddly rotated. Her face isn't even in focus. Completely unacceptable for an outside shot.

Also, would a bit of post processing kill you? I see some chrom abs where her sock meets the open window. If you composed properly you could have avoided that. Also, the subject is soft. I own and use that same 50 and it's plenty sharp, but not very sharp fucking f/1.8. If you stopped down it would have come out sharper, with less chrom abs, and less of a need to add sharperning in post processing. This also begs the question; who the hell takes portraits with a standard lens?

If you look at her left leg at the knee, where the dark material of her sock meets the white from the open window, do you see the magenta-ish tinge on the edge of her sock? That's a chromatic aberration.

I mean, he's also shooting the lens wide open in broad daylight and basically welcoming all these problems himself. The EXIF says he's got a 1/1250th shutter speed so there's no reason he should shoot wide open like that. If he had just closed the aperture a bit, he could have gotten her whole body tack sharp and eliminated the fringing, and that's most of the problems right there. Not much more to say about it.

No. Touhou is actually pretty much the only good thing about this board. If there was no Touhou here then /jp/ would be, quite literally, nothing but shitposts and one or two VN threads. There isn't enough interest in VNs in a broad spectrum to maintain sustainable traffic here. There just isn't. Idols and other more tangential shit have even less penetration. /jp/ would very much not even exist in the first place if it wasn't for Touhou.

Sometimes >50% of the threads on front pages/first couple pages are Touhou. It puts everything else to shame in its permanence here. They're usually caused by large aperture lenses being shot wide open, and even then the circumstances that they appear is pretty situational. They usually only occur where the contrast between dark and bright parts of the photo appear. Low quality/inadequatel coated lenses can cause it as well. The thing is, that lens is modern and doesn't fringe like that with proper use. It's not the camera's fault either. Stuff like this has been happening since lenses and cameras were invented. In this case it's simply a user error.

From 08-09 /a/ was actually pretty consistent with redirecting things here.

Nowadays though, there's sometimes multiple VN threads on the front page, there's usually some game they like to play together for fun (like monmusu quest, and now majikoi, they're quickly developing a flavor-of-the-month for VNs).. and there's usually what they call a "buyfag" (fig) thread 24/7.

It's like they don't even know what /jp/ fucking exists for anymore. Actually, that's probably exactly the case because a large chunk of /a/'s populace are very much new to this. You can see their newness in there usually being people asking about their first order/ordering process, people going "arr I think I'm gonna be a buyfag soon" etc. What pisses me off is some of them are basically in denial about themselves and about /jp/. The other thing though is that we're hostile to them if they want to talk about common/old VNs, and they're hostile to us mostly just because we exist, even though many of us have power levels that would rank in elder-god tier among typical /a/ folk they just don't fucking understand (probably due to newness/immaturity).

/a/ also picks things much more on impulse. The little majikoi fever going on there now basically all started just because of one appealing screencap getting spammed a couple times, which led to people getting serious in trying to find sauce. If real-deal sauce is found then they all proceed to play through it and comment on it together.

They very much treat VNs like a book club where they (in a subtle, unwritten way) get "assigned" vns that they know a lot of /a/ is playing right now, and come to talk about it as they play on a day by day basis.

On the other hand /jp/ is more like a meeting of critics. We've played through certain things that we found and completely read through on our own judgment, and already know all the common things to be said, so it's more like we exchange reviews/favorite parts after the fact.

I suppose /a/ is a bit more like it is because the mindset of discussion there is that it's constant/current, as it is with discussion of an anime airing. If I wanted to talk about some old obscure VN here though it's more like I'm looking to pool some opinions that some of us may have formed years ago but never got a chance to springboard. And even then what I'm talking about is kinda rare, a lot of VN discussion here is simply translating, which is a different ballgame completely.

Are you that surprised that a lot of us watch anime? A lot (maybe most of us actually) are on /a/ and /v/ as well as /jp/. A lot of /a/ also comes and lurks here as well, in case this info is somehow rocking your world.

/a/ really isn't very good, but compared to other popular anime discuussion locales, it's sadly pretty much the best there is, sometimes by a longshot. Unlike /v/, where it's easily possible to get much better-quality discussion on games or industry off that board than on it, it's very hard to find a high-population /a/ substitute that's not 2ch/2chan.

I lurk /a/ all the time technically, but, often go weeks without posting there. I care 0.00% about the waifu/shitstorm/opinions troll threads that are so common there... sort of like I care 0.00% about the IRC autism fests here. They utterly fail to impact me emotionally; this is what being here so many years does to you.

Literally 99% of the threads on /a/ are just not worth bothering with to me, my lurking consists of F5'ing a couple times every couple of hours (or minutes if I'm really bored). But sometimes interesting things pop up, or there is acceptably rational discussion on a show I'm watching.

/v/ is kind of the same way, only (at least to me) 99.9% of /v/ threads aren't worth the photons that triggered the rods and cones in my retina; I usually check /v/ a scant few times a day just to confirm it's shit/they're not talking about anything actually interesting.
