Chado tried explaining it but it comes out as a jumble, but I guess it's like since she's the keeper of order in Gensokyo, Gensokyo itself won't allow her to die or somesuch. I assume she can't kill herself, either.

Unless there's some sort of "happy" ending (Oh, it was just a dream! or Oh, everyone is still alive!), a Touhou Battle Royale doujin would only serve to effectively piss off over 80% of the Touhou fanbase.

>> No.795305

>If the story is good, I don't give a shit what happens to them, favorites or not.

That's usually the problem. An artist will (usually) always be biased towards whichever character he likes, which leads to some odd situations: Yukari out-haxed, Flandre/Yuka downright overpowered, Suika losing an arm-wrestling match, etc. And then the fans of the defeated ones come out of the woodworks and explain how it doesn't make sense and how this shoulda gone this way because she can do this and that, etc.

As long as its kind of realistic though, I wouldn't mind.

Seriously, characters that I like enough that I can grow attached to such a point that I'd get a little emotional chill down my spine if they got killed off is why anime is generally > Hollywood movies. A lot of times, when they have to explain why one character needs to kill others in an aggressive manner, it's explained pretty poorly.

Stuff like Youmu aggressively attacking another Touhou that could be a possible threat to Yuyuko makes sense, and works fine with me.

But creating a situation where the Touhous are required to kill each other for seemingly no reason other than, "Gensokyo will die!" is pretty lame. Battle Royale had the luxury of having many pages, thus being able to flesh out each character enough and explain why they viewed another person as an ally or a threat. A Touhou doujin, on the other hand... needs to rely on pre-existing assumptions and relationships if they want to create a coherent story with as little pages as possible. If it was a series, I guess it could work, but even then, it requires some creativity to come up with a reason as to why they had to kill each other in the first place.

The touhou battle royale doujin fucking sucked.

BR was awesome cause in the end the couple and some GAR guy sailed away. So this doujin shouldve had GARCirno take his place, and Marisa and Reimu leave gensokyo as bruce springstein plays in the background.

Which just gave us all the idea of doing a "realistic" version of this using powerlevels, didn't it?

>> No.795390

I agree. If the story is good, I can get past seeing bad things happen to my beloved Cirno or Reisen or whatever. But what does ruin it, is bullshit that flies in the face of, for lack of a better word, realism. Like the examples in >>795305

I mean, if Yukari got out-haxed I wouldn't be upset because I like Yukari, I'd be upset because it's blatant bullshit that would never, ever happen. Touhou gives a whole lot of ambiguities to play around with, of course, but that doesn't mean there isn't just straight up bullshit.

This is why we have the dragon guy at the end who's watching it all. Reimu, Yukari, Yuka and Suika would all find a way to break free from whatever systen he's put forth. They'd proceed to fight him, and, since he's a dragon it'd amount to an epic final fight.
