Finished Ai's route. Her perverted jokes/references/innuendos coupled with her nonchalance were very refreshing to see in a SoL title.

Though I'm disappointed in her route. For a second, I thought she was guilt-tripping the protag to hide the fact that she was some slut or a rape victim. But it turns out that she was doing it for some trivial reason. While she ended up losing her virginity to the protag anyway, the lack of a bleeding CG was too high a price to pay for that simple plot element. Apparently, many girls bleed on their second times too, so they could have taken advantage of that.

The CG consistency problem is still very annoying. One CG bothered me in particular where her lower abdomen was abnormally large, which resulted in her crotch area being larger than necessary. I'd provide the example, but our new meido bans even when you spoiler NSFW images.

Moving on to the tsundere route next.

i just finished the final ending of EVER17 after some days of playthrought
boy i wonder why i didn't read it sooner, it was probably one of the best stories i've ever read

care about the wall of spoilers

i absolutely loved the blick winkel 4th wall thing and how i got tricked in believing who were the real main characters
no really, i broke my jaw when hokuto saw himself in the mirror
i was astonished since i was all that time believing i was ryogo from 2017
same thing for the "real" and "fake" takeshi thing
also i kinda know not many people like tsugumi but her romance was really beautiful. Kids? Holy shit i love dem kids, dat chami and dat tsugumi
too bad i didn't quite like coco's voice and the fact she's supposed blick winkel's romance. Well coco i like you but not in that way, but i guess it's okay since i got to read this fuckawesome story

another thing that maybe i didn't like were the long-ass explanations about the really complicated stuff, i guess i'm an idiot who just wanted to get only what was necessary

Don't listen to this guy. I played through the demo of Koi Kishi and the writer cannot write action for his life. There's absolutely no tension or build up and the "bad guys" are not intimidating in the least. At best, they're like villains from a really bad Saturday morning cartoon - they do all the typical overly dramatic bad guy things like snatching purses and performing heists of fine art and it's of course up to our heroes to stop them - it's pure cartoonish villainy.

On the other hand, cute girls doing cute things were the best part about the demo.

I think it's considered a kamige and it really deserves the title. Tons of FUCK YEAR! moments, the game play itself is pretty fun. And from the way the memory gimmick is written, the game will keep you guessing through all six routes. All the heroines are quite endearing as well.

I finished E17 a few days ago. Aside from the terrible (terrible) pace, it is indeed good. And this comes from someone who got some shit spoiled, and saw some other shit miles away, and even then the specifics of the spoiled shit was surprising.

Though I particularly didn't like how Blick Winkel/Hokuto interacted with Dead Takeshi. Deus Ex Machina isn't exactly what I feel it is, since Blick Winkel was fairly well built up, but the interaction with the past itself felt coming rather out of nowhere to save the day, specially Hokuto's conscience being there.

Looking for some VN recommendations. Here's what I played so far and my thoughts on them:

Ever17 - loved this. Completed every single route. It had a -great- mix of slice of life/character development and intriguing plot.

Tsukihime - Great atmosphere, dull and repetitive writing, SHIT tons of exposition (which i normally don't mind but it was glaringly obvious in this one) and has pacing problems. I only played the Arcueid route, but I no longer have any interest in the rest of the game.

Saya no Uta - Very creepy game. I didn't really care about the characters or the plot. The most interesting thing about this were the notes left by the doctor who raised Saya. It was really interesting. I wanted to find out more.

so:
d1: 1-3 full.
d1+d2: 1-6 full
d2 only: 4-6 full, 1-3 summary

think d2 as expansion pack

And I have to say: I liked it more than Forest. Now before you rage so hard you cry tears of blood, juts wait a minute and listen: YES Forest's actual plot is much better, YES Shkanon is a terrible fucking solution. BUT there's two things that Umineko does better in general. First of all, the cast is still mostly better than forest's. In fact, Eva and Natsuhi might be some of the most 3 dimensional characters I've seen in VNs. The other thing is that Umineko's music is much better. So even with the fucked up mystery and other problems that Umineko has, I still enjoyed it more than Forest, which it is often (not entirely unfairly) accused of ripping off.

AHAHAHAHA NO
The main cast of Forest is much, much better than the cast of Umineko, there is no comparison.
The characterization is like miles ahead.
Oh and Natsuhi and Eva are nothing special at all.

>The other thing is that Umineko's music is much better.
Umineko's soundtrack is basically the one good thing about it but you won't judge a fucking VN on this.
And the soundtrack of Forest is amazing too.

You can like Umineko more if you want, even if your reasons are pretty fucking retarded, though.

Considering VNs are nothing but text, art, and music, I'd say it's fair to judge them on music.

Seeing that majority of NTR games involves rape, your definition just discounted majority of NTR eroges. Heroine rape is NTR if you're not the one doing the raping.
Also the heroine's feeling is not really that central in NTR, what's important is that the protag feels jealousy/loss/rage over it.

Well, ok, I guess it's just a problem of definitions then. I personally don't consider it NTR unless the heroine is clearly stolen away from the protagonist. Heroines being not virgins or rape victims doesn't qualify in my case.
To make an example Baldr Force doesn't even have the ntr tag on egs, just 陵辱

>> No.7941190

>>7941066
Not really. The reason many 'rape NTR' games exist is because the girl eventually falls for the rapist or mind breaks or whatever. She leaves the protagonist usually, even if she wasn't consenting at first. Just getting raped beyond her will and then going back to the protag is not really NTR. NTR specifically means to be stolen.

>> No.7941218

Just started playing through the Higurashi series last week.
I got to Watanagashi-Hen and to the scene where Keiichi talks to Shion on the phone and confronts her over the contradiction in her story about talking to Kimiyoshi. It was 2am in the middle of the night and I had headphones on, so the horror music was blaring in my ears. Then Shion started laughing like a maniac followed by a scare chord with a pair of eyes flashing over a black background. Needless to say, I fell off my bed, knocked over my chair, which knocked over 2 of my textbooks, and woke my roomates up.

Seriously, that is retarded and horrifying. Should I be expecting anymore screamers in the rest of the game?

The main NTR route in that game with the most scenes is pure NTR, the route where she is working at that cafe or whatever she eventually becomes a willing participant, she willing sleeps with the kid she is teaching. What other NTR routes are there in that game exactly?

Just getting raped does not constitute NTR. NTR B is where it eventually becomes consensual, and NTR C is not really NTR, it's just a way of seperating non consensual rape from the other two main types of NTR.

Did they succeed? No.

Triangle Blue has 4 NTR routes:

The childhood friend/host.
The fat otaku that she married in an online game.
Protag's uncle(?) that manages a famiresu
And the Autistic NEET she tutors.

She didn't willingly sleep with the Autistic NEET, he raped her. Also he didn't succeed in stealing her from the protag. The otaku never succeeded on all the ends on his route either.

Can't remember much about the famiresu though but I'm pretty sure the protag also killed that guy. Same with the childhood friend.

It's fine if you don't consider it NTR, the japs thinks otherwise though.

I recommend going to a site like vndb and sorting games by rating, that, or finding reviews from someone who has similar taste to your own and taking it from there.

If you're new and only reading translated stuff, I would probably recommend this order.

Fate Stay / Night--> Yume Miru Kusuri --> Seiken No Ignanock --> Kanon --> Ever17 --> Tsukihime --> Cross Channel --> MuvLuv Series

That gives you some good reads, some background on the common themes, a mix of settings, and then what I think are the best two VNs at the end.

From there on just read things that interest you.

There is playing a game and blowing shit up, and there is pointlessly clicking and choosing where to go at random (good luck divining whether your room or the toilet is the place to advance the route).

We adults grew up a long time ago. If something is supposed to be a game, it should have good gameplay. If something is supposed to be a book, it'd better have an engaging plot. If there are branch points, they'd better not be random bullshit and people should be able to figure it out by logic.
YU-NO is complete shit as a game. People play (or read) it for the story. /captainobvious

Since Ren is pure Shounen material, I think it's fair to liken him to Aisaku from Schatten. Dies Irae is significantly darker themed, with it european black magic and shit, but the core is the same.

Ren is an out-spoken, self righteous badass whose consistency of character is more flexible outside of battles to allow for romance, sympathy, reflection, etc to give him pretend depth and complexity that he doesn't really have. In battles, he gets fired up and super self righteous, and awesome moments come out of it.

Ren however, isn't necessarily the star of the show, just the protagonist of the play. Almost every other character who isn't Ren (save Spinne) is a fucking beast, especially the upper tiers of the games organization (Eleonora, Makina, Mephisto, etc) and how the course of battles reflects their own disposition complements Ren's single-mindedness remarkably well.

I can't see Ren as being a good character taken outside of the context of the circumstances he's in in game. He like every other character is a utility for awesome moments and plot.

>> No.7949573

>>7949369
Really now? I didn't think that statement was too far out of the ball park when I made it, but...

In terms of their functions as a character, both Aisaku and Ren have a creed that they use to justify their priority over their enemy. For Aisaku, that's largely for the sake of justice and to protect his friends, for Ren, that's largely to restore his everyday life and to protect those associated with it. When this creed is challenged by enemies and obstacles, both Aisaku and Ren get fired up and self righteous, justifying their actions, or rather skipping the justification on the basis of this self righteousness. For the larger part, this creed only wavers when it comes to personal things, for Aisaku, people dying, clone Kizaia's death, and complications with the heroines and his friends, for Ren, this is a lot less prominent, but his interactions with the heroines also complicate things.

Of course, I think a lot of these points apply to Heroes of Shounen stuff. I consider Ren and Aisaku both to be pretty generic in that regard.

Paradise Lost is pretty good, my main problem was the lack of voice, only a few characters are voiced, and with Masada's crazy writing voice really help.
But if you like DI you should like it.

Soranica Ele is wasted potential the game, I wouldn't recommend it at all.
It starts pretty well with some good writing and a few neat trick like the second mysterious pov.
But then nothing intersting happens, it tries to do a world end setting but the drama is really really bad and it ends up just being dull and really boring.
I guess the brown broken loli's route wasn't too bad, though still mediocre.
And the final route is just pure shit with Code Geass level twists

I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone, if you want a world end setting go read Hello, World or something.

Most Light games that aren't by Masada are pretty bad except for Gunjou no Sora wo Koete, this game is a masterpiece.
