Because IN was the pinnacle of fantasy. It felt appropriately epic, with even characters Like Remilia and Yuyuko joining the fray. Compared to the mythos surrounding Kaguya-hime, nothing feels as beautifully and distinctly Japanese anymore. There is even another film about it being made by Ghibli.

You don't introduce Cthulhu and expect to impress people by making a sequel about Godzilla.

I found the IN cast to generally be bland and forgettable actually.
