Did... did he just try to checkmate with his king? KINGS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!

Plus with the fucking pawn is right there... holy shit, how can you be so utterly ignorant of how chess works? It's not like it takes a lot of fucking research to avoid fucking up to such a ridiculous degree. There are plenty of shogi/go/etc. players in Japan that are also quite good at chess. Fucking Sunrise making me rage over improper use of kings in some shitty animu I've never watched, fuck.

Try to assume that since it's an alternate universe, the rules for chess has changed.

Three marks. Have to remember that; thanks.

It's possible to corner a king so he cannot move but that's certainly not checkmate.

Is this an illegal move?

You just know Marisa shouts some sort of ridiculous chant when she uses a blue shell.

>> No.791414

Yes because he's putting his King into check both by the pawn (assuming it's headed forward) and by the opposing king.

>> No.791424

>>791397
A king can never move to a space where it is threatened by another piece, so two kings can never be side-by-side. This is also why a stalemate occurs if the only piece remaining on one side is a king and it isn't in check, but it can't move without putting itself in check, or if both sides only have a king left.

You CAN use a king to help achieve checkmate by using it to threaten a square the opposing king might move to to escape, but it can't attack another king directly.

This. It also counts as a draw, not a win for the other player.

Surprisingly a lot of people don't know about this. Same with the pawn double move and capture.
