September is closing fast and this month's releases are almost upon us.

What are you playing? What are you looking forward to? You know the drill.

Started アキバ系彼女 expecting a quick fap.

There's actually a surprising amount of text and character interaction. Unfortunately it isn't fully voiced which is disappointing.

It adds more impact and life by complementing the text, providing stress where it counts in remarkably critical ways. This can range from situations of solemn decision making or amazing speeches, such as every line that is said by Kageaki, to accentuating and making tangible the pain of other characters with screams and broken language, such as Nanoha's gang rape bad ending in Baldr Sky. It's also really critical in any game that deliberately tugs at your heart strings be it positive or negative, such as in the case of Haruka ni Aogi and Parfait. And in particular cases, like Oretsuba and Himawari, all of the voice acting is phenomenal.

TL;DR: I think for the most part, voice acting adds an organic layer that crosses the monitor.

However, I think that it's better to leave a game unvoiced than to have bad voice acting, To it's defense, because voice actors are of such stressed importance of japan, most games with voice acting, and just about every great game in the last 4 years usually has at least tolerable voice acting. Furthermore, every "god-tier" eroge/galge by /jp/'s consensus typically phenomenal voice acting. This is under the assumption you understand what they're saying though.

>> No.7871764

I'm slowly burning through my back log.

Playing Forest and Oretsuba Prelude while I wait for Oretsuba R to arrive in the mail (On a side note, Sakura pushed me over the edge with buying this one with his recommendation.)

I didn't think I'd particularly like Forest, since I'm not a fan of fairy-tale fantasy like Liar-soft's beautiful series, but my expectations have been defied and the game is totally blowing me away. I'm still early in, just went into June, but with the games narrative presentation and immaculate organization, as well as the excellence of the writing, this game has been making my day every day that I've played it.

Have to ask two quick questions about Forest.

I'm not sure if I missed it or what I missed, but what is Alice's relation to Akeru's student? Also, in the H Scene, The first one leading to the first bad end, there was screaming and crying before and after Alice's H-Scene. Who was that?

Liked the finale with Sorimachi (world need more characters like him) more than the one with Hikaru. definately great eroge tough, although it didn't become my favorite due small things here and there. as far as routes go Ichijou > Muramasa > Kanae. Muramasa route maybe was overally bit more balanced than Ichijous but Ichijou routes final chapter and epilogue out-did anything that was in Muramasa route.

ps. Kageakki has some refined tastes and Sorimachi is awesome and I'm going to play dat Uzuki in loop for while

Up to now, only two heroines, the impersonated guy's brother and her meido know. The character in that screen knows the main character though. Which leads to well, that. There is something like that, kinda. One of the girls is the guy's fiancèe and they get close without her knowing it's actually a bumfuck that looks like him (cue guilt trips from the protagonist, etc). One of the other girls also has her route partially dealing with that issue (reputation is serious business and since the guy already has a fiancèe his relationship with the heroine is criticized).

It's possible that the numbers grow greatly erratic only for the largest properties (e.g. Daiteikoku, LB! Ecstasy). The point system at least shows us the ratio of the divide between higher ranked versus lower ranked eroge. I can also say that Fortune Arterial outsold Yoake and Eustia. Or maybe I cannot.

At least I know in the future to not make big conclusions based on Push points in my argument.

Hmm finished Shiina's route in Memories Off 7. Although the game itself seems nice, and the characters are good, I did not like her route at all. It was pretty much entirely drama, and not the type I care about: pretending to date someone else to get the protag's attention or whatever. Also, the protag is way too dense for my liking, I can understand it somewhat in these types of games, but at a certain point it just gets annoying. And then on top of that, there is like no nice romance scenes or ichaicha scenes afterwards. Chinatsu also seemed to disappear for the majority of the route. I don't think most of you have played it so you probably don't know what I'm talking about, but yea. I'll probably do Chinatsu's route next, if I can remember.

No idea for Starlit Brave Xtreme. The fact that only the VN girls are confirmed makes it possible, since they've all been in eroge before (though this would essentially be some crossover NTR'ing, since the MCs of their respective games definitely aren't here), but personally, I'd prefer bringing back the animu girls as well instead of potential guest cameo h-scenes. Is it normal for rich families in Japan to not financially help their daughters when they get married? I expect them to have at least a bank account/trust fund or something. It's not like they're disinherited.

It's also on sofmap and other places. Though Blu-Ray is really shitty, the price of the original windows game is outright ridiculous (Talking in the $400-$800 range) so for anybody who did want to own a hard copy, this might be the best opportunity. I'd also encourage buyfags to keep an eye on used copies of the PC version, since prices might drop with the BD release.

Also, recommend the game highly to anybody who likes denpa stuff, probably the epitome of the genre. Game is really dark themed, lots of insanity (unfortunately, lots of rape too). Really one of a kind though.

I'm going to play this the day of it's release forward, so if you start a weekly thread for it, count me in.

On the other hand, none of us really know how long KKK is. If it's 40,000 lines plus, which it may very well be so long is it's complete unlike Zarathustra, not sure about the others, but I'd rather not grind a game of that length in that amount of time.

For an Eroge Reading Club, I would personally recommend extending the length to every two weeks, which is plenty enough time to pull in games of average length. If you wanted to keep it at a week, then why not get into doujin titles? Or play games of excruciatingly short length (like Dra+Koi)? Or make it into a route/chapter per week? For varying tastes, perhaps extending into multiple genres might be considered? For instance, on KKK's release date, Suika 2 and Sucre are coming out, which are more oriented to moege and romance lovers taste, as opposed to the thickly stylized 中二病 action (followed by copious amounts of badass, game is going to either be fucking awesome or terrible, still can't fucking wait, etc.) of KKK. Broadens the horizons a bit, categorizing by length and genre. That's just my two cents.

>> No.7892219

>>7892210
It'd probably be best to have the "Eroge Reading Club" focus on already released titles so that time could be accurately allocated for the title, rather than putting more restrictions down on it, especially in the case of charage/moege, I feel.

This might not be exactly related to the topic, but the people that I want to ask this are most likely keeping an eye on this thread so for the sake of efficiency I'll ask here. I'm in the process of learning Japanese and lately I've been reading VNs with IGTH in order to get better, and I have, but probably not at the pace I desire. I guess what I'm asking is did anyone else actually learn Japanese to an advanced simply by reading VNs with a text hooker, if so how long did it take you to comfortably read most works that are released?

>> No.7892455

>>7892433
If you're relying on text hookers I don't think you will get better. Actually studying and stuff with be more effective.

>> No.7892613

Took me about 2 years.

The thing is though, is that I still rely on text hookers because learning through that method isn't very effective in learning kanji, so there's still a ton of kanji I don't know.

I never bothered supplementing it with any actual studying and stuff so the only kanji I know are the really common ones that you're guaranteed to encounter multiple times in a game, since they're so common I eventually pick them up. There's a lot of kanji out there that is 'common' but you'll really only see it like, maybe 3 or 4 times in an entire game and that's not enough to hammer it into my brain.

>> No.7892676

>>7892455
Well I should tell you that I I've done RtK 1 + supplement so that's an odd 2300 kanji, I know about 7000 ish words of vocab and I can read parts with readings I know just fine. I've also covered all Tae Kim grammar. I suppose I'm an intermediate, so it's not like I'm actually trying to learn the fundamentals by reading VNs. I rely on the text hooker purely for unknown words. I really can't think of anything to do right now but just SrS vocab I encounter in VNs.

>> No.7892881

>>7892676
Well, when ever you come across kanji or words you don't know while reading, you could write them down and throw them into Anki or a similar program, and memorise them. Eventually you shouldn't come across words you don't know too often.

>> No.7892905

>>7892881
Actually I guess that's what you just said, sorry. Either way, my point is relying on a text hooker even for unknown words won't help you remember them, because after you read the meaning in translation aggregator or whatever, you'll just forget by the next time you come across it, unless it is really common.

Text hooking is a tool used to help those who don't have high enough skills to read in the Japanese, it is not going to help you learn it. It would be like expecting to learn Japanese via watching subs. Sure, you'll memorise words like 何 or 好き but it isn't really going to help you at all.

If you're comfortable reading as it is, then there isn't a problem. It sounds like you know a lot more than most.

I've finished Book of Shadows, a horror VN for the PSP, part of the Corpse Party series.

Same background as always: A group of highschoolers gets lured into some kind of ghost realm, an old abandoned school building where, while slowly getting mad, they are murdered, murder or eventually manage to escape.

It relies very much on the previous game, in fact it's more a sort of fan disc. The episodes provide parallel/alternative events for the previous game, mostly with characters from other schools that didn't play a major role before. Only the very last episode actually continues the story, but it's short and more a sort of prolouge (to be continued). At least there is hope for a new game. Not so much for the story though.

The last game had a rather unique adventure-like playstyle, this time it's a straight VN, but it's still (annoyingly) possible to choose locations, investigate and even collect items. At least you can fast forward now and save at every moment.

The episodes are very linear, there are some choices but they are almost entierly unnecessary ones between instant death or continuing the story (e.g. someone's coming: hide under the table or inside the box).

The writing could be better from time to time but is good enough.

It's not 18+ (one grade below), but still decent for the PSP. And when the imouto woke up, it even felt like a Black Cyc game for a short moment.

>A meteor struck Mamoru when he was a kid, but he didn't get injured at all. That's why he was called "Miracle Meteor Boy". Seven years later, a beautiful girl surrounded by noble aura suddenly appears in front of Mamoru and he is taken to a strange place. Yes, it's inside a spaceship and there he can see beautiful girls showing their underwears...
>"Show the Holy Ball." He doesn't know what she is talking about. According to her, they are from another planet to get the "Holy Ball", which is a key item of succession battle for the throne. To show underwear is also a proof of the royal family and the pride of the grand universe. When they check Mamoru's body, the Holly Ball is found inside his body. As a matter of fact, the meteor which struck him is the Holly Ball. To get it out, Mamoru needs to reach a universally stunning climax. Like this, a battle for the Ball begins...

Hey guys, something I've been wondering about YU-NO for a while, since its English release is imminent. I see that they separate the scripts out into the different heroines' routes, and then one path to epilogue and then epilogue. Does this mean that you do your heroine of your choice, and then you go to the epilogue afterwards for every playthrough, or is the "epilogue" its own self-contained route, kind of like the Coco route of Ever17 or whatever?

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, I would have used the VNTS thread but it seems to have 404ed, and I didn't think making a new thread for a simple question like that would be appropriate.

>> No.7906077

>>7906071
Yeah, the way the jewel system is built (at least in the saturn version, dunno if it's the same in the windows one) basically allows you to access the epilogue only after you saw all the other routes, and it's just as long.

>> No.7906079

They don't provide closure, they are just specials you don't have to see that are only accessible after seeing the true ending that actually provide all the closure you'd want.

If you didn't see those endings you didn't "completely finish" the game no matter how you slice it. You get the Yu-No Master title only after seeing them.
Cross Channel is linear, Yu-No is not.

>If you didn't see those endings you didn't "completely finish" the game no matter how you slice it. You get the Yu-No Master title only after seeing them.

That's just retarded, you are just disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing.
It would be like saying that if you didn't saw all the bad endings in a game you didn't finish this game. Good luck reading something like France Shoujo with this sort of OCD.

If you put them together, these endings probably don't have more than 100 lines, they are really inconsequential and they won't change the format of a game.
Yu-No has a story, it ends with the true end, everything else is just omake.

>> No.7906837

>>7906805
>It would be like saying that if you didn't saw all the bad endings in a game you didn't finish this game
Nice how this time you skipped using the word completely. Noticed how you can't say you completely finished something without actually seeing everything?
It would be like saying you completely finished a bestiary after seeing just the main story enemies and that optional bosses are inconsequential to the list.
I'm not saying the true endings have the same importance of the epilogue, but they imply a structure which is fundamentally different than Cross Channel's. When there'll be endings where Taichi is shown together with each heroine I'll agree with you.

I wasn't arguing that games should always be finished 100%, if that's what you're saying, just saying I find the comparison with Cross Channel's structure tenuous at best.
