Well, someone sure as hell called it.

2008 jp was actually good, though.

I think what really happens is you quickly become comfortable with whatever standard the board has. It's human nature. You'll view every period as shit or mediocre at the time, and only like them in retrospect when you've become accustomed to a shittier period following.

Remember when /jp/ was good?

It's probably more that the age difference between older users and the crew of underage/newer users simply increases over time. I can't stand to read /a/ threads about shows I love anymore, and I probably open a mere fraction of /jp/ threads compared to what I used to. There's gotta be a pretty decent clump of users who are nearing their 30s, and there are probably quite a few who are under 18, or at least in a comparable mental state.

I have pretty mixed feelings about what the actual degradation of /jp/ has wrought. In some ways, the cross-board shitpost threads on /jp/ serve me better than going to the actual boards. Every-few-hourly dose of anime screenshots with no text? Works about as well as /a/ does for me. JRPG/shitty MMO threads? Easier to find and usually more relevant to my interests than sifting through the cesspool of /v/.

I do kind of miss being able to use other boards. I suppose I'll feel the same way about /jp/ sometime in the future, but, unfortunately this time, we're already at the end of the road. What lies beyond here?

Nothing. This is the end of the line. Once you're done here, you can either learn Japanese and go to Futaba, embrace the endless self-absorption and shit of Web 2.0, or give up on the internet and spend your days sitting in a corner staring at the wall. Your choice.
