>> No.7871779

>>7871651
It is a bit difficult to consistently block damage until you start to get Girl Powers that have Guard++ or better. Once you get your first Guard+++, you'll be nigh invincible. Using all the dualithnode crystals to keep your reyvateil levels high removes some of the burden of having to get good guards and it increases their burst speed, spell damage and MP reserves that all combine to make the game a lot easier. It also doesn't help that for the majority of phase 1/2 you only have 1 reyvateil in your party, which really cuts down on your firepower because the 2nd vanguard can't use their higher level attacks and you don't have the faster burst speeds/additional power of the 2nd reyvateil.

Also, AT2 has some weird damage evaluation which really punishes significantly weaker defense. If you break some magical difference in attack versus their defense, you do really high amounts of damage. The reverse applies of course.

AT1 and 2 tend to have good hooks through the beginning parts of the game to help keep your interest up, which is really due to having a solid short term objective for the story progression. For me, AT3 doesn't quite have those hooks to keep me interested. It doesn't help that the battle system is just a tad awkward with little variation in the reyvateil song magics early in the game which negates it as being a potential hook for me.

One last thing, I personally find AT3's OST to be rather poor in comparison to AT1 and 2's. There are a few tracks which I absolutely love such as the little upbeat tune when it's displaying a tutorial on a system but I generally didn't like the OST as much.

Apparently if you can get past the beginning, it gets really good at the end. But we'll see. Atelier Totori is most likely going to be the next game I finish though.

>> No.7872258

I think I'm having troubles with the Purging/Undressing thing in AT3. Press an L or R button and shake the controller when Burst Up appears, right. Whenever I do that, the girl casts the song magic immediatly on a random enemy. And it doesn't show her undressing even, she cast it already undressed and then has her clothes back on when she starts singing again.

Is this normal? I've had the Purge Movie ON for the whole game, but only had the animation sequence happen only once, with the rest being an instant cast. Isn't the girl also supposed to keep charging the song magic while undressing instead of casting it and then putting everything back on?

you purge too early. you have to wait until that heart icon shows you can purge.
also don't try purge more levels at once. even if the game tells you its possible later on, it never ever works.

>> No.7872387 [DELETED]

>>7872258
For one, you have to unlock purging by clearing a girl's cosmosphere level 1 (or was it 2?). After that, you still have to wait for "Purge ready" to appear over the heart indicator on the lower right during battle. Purge movies also only play if you purge during a red beat.

That being said, for some reason, I couldn't purge Finnel during the early parts of the game, while Saki worked just fine. Maybe I just sucked back then, but I remember being irritated for a while. (After that, I downloaded that bonus disk with all purge movies and fapped to my heart's content)

Even if the game doesn't say it, you have to charge it up a little extra. I think it's faster to build up a bunch of purge and skip straight to level 4 rather than to purge 3 times. Still, as you said, there's no way to tell (as far as I'm aware) and so you might as well go one at a time.

There is a continuity, however each game is on a different continent, so for the first two games the only thing you will miss is some small cameo-type things that you would probably enjoy had you played the first.

If you are going to play the third, however, I really recommend you play at least some of 1 and 2.

>> No.7874376

AT1 to AT2 has mainly cameo references. One somewhat significant NPC makes a persistent appearance in AT2 and one important character has a significant role but the role in AT1 isn't too significant in context of AT2 and but exploring it is fan service for those who went through AT1. There are references to the events/characters of AT1 in the shop event dialogues and the bonus Binary Sphere world pulls back the reyvateil trio from AT1 for a fun adventure.

AT2 to AT3 has more significant plot links. AT2 directly leads into AT3, with two characters in AT2 being rather significant in AT3's plot. Also, an important outcome of AT2 is used in AT3's plot. There are additional minor references to AT2's characters in AT3 in the non-essential dialogues.

It's not necessary to play the previous 2 games, which is why NISA retitled AT3 to Ar tonelico Qoga so that people don't get the impression they had to play the first 2 games. It would be worth going through AT2 for the stronger story links and a foreshadowing of the major issue in AT3. AT1 would complete everything that has happened but is rather stand-alone (and dated) in comparison.

I'm somewhat in agreement.
I feel AT1 had the best individual hymns, AT2 had the best overall OST with higher-on-average song quality, while AT3 had the most fitting OST for an Ar Tonelico game.

Let me elaborate; while the songs in Qoga weren't necessarily the best, the variety in the OST as a whole I feel epitomises what the series is about. Fusionsphere, Harmonics ~ Tilia, Arphage, Cosmoflips, Viibaci Mjiira, Hymmeli even Cutypump, Exec Z and EP=Nova. Each forms a musical representation of the different aspects of the games, from the galge elements to the sense of following a grand adventure. Don't get me started on Ec Tisia.

this, though the cameo stuff in AT2 goes a bit nuts and will spoil several of the major plot twists in AT1, or if you are a completionist and do *all* of the synthesizing side stuff, you will have *all* of the AT1 plot twists spoiled.

Just cleared AT3, Finnel Pure Route. I don't think I'm going to bother with the other routes. I don't really have the time for JPRGs nowadays.

Still, goddamn. Something about hearing the hymmnos within their context just sends shivers all across my body, especially METHOD_HYMMELI/. That shit was super effective.

On the overall 'HOLY SHIT' scale, I'd still rate AT3 below AT2 (I haven't played AT1, the combat system and Lyner kinda put me off).

Still, I am absolutely satisfied with how the game came out and it was a really fun ride. Though it really makes me sad that we'll see little to no more hymmnos songs, but what we have already is exceptional enough.

Also, nice touch on the credits theme.

The lack of overall difficulty from AT1's combat system I can sort of understand, but what's so wrong with Lyner?

Is a romantically dense MC really that much worse than a self-insert spineless MC whose only notable personality is being the "straight man" in every "comedic" scene?

I actually really enjoyed AT2's combat system and found myself getting pretty good at it. It felt pretty engaging and you knew there wasn't much room to fuck about. Hell, I even decided to underlevel and draw out the final boss for over an hour.

Ending of her cosmosphere or ending of her route? If there are proper routes like in AT2, that is. I already have 2 heart points for Finnel and 0 for Saki, and I'm hesitant if I should go for the third ASAP or fool around and get points for Saki.

And I haven't met the third Reyvateil yet. Uh, well, third singing Reyvateil, finally got rid of Tatsumi and have Cocona back. I confess, I was surprised when I leaned Cocona would be playable, though not as much as seeing Sasha, Jack and Krushe again.

>> No.7882524

>>7882484
Mostly talking about cosmosphere and the way you "fix" everything in there. The ending itself is fine, the only thing that disappointed me was that it didn't seem very Finnel-specific. Sure, you end up with her, but it's not like say AT1 where it explicitly states that you travel around with her or something.

I really love the third reyvateil. Like, I finished Finnel's route just because I said I would, but I really wanted to switch halfway through, and now I don't have my PS3 for some time so I can't go back and do the third, which sucks. Up to you, Finnel's route is worth doing but I still like the 3rd the best.

>> No.7882528

Getting three hearts on one girls locks you into their route. You'll get an additional CG though.

Putting two in one and one in the others opens up a few options to you. So I'd suggest creating a split save before you award that final heart.

As for Finnel's cosmosphere, aren't all the girls kinda fucked and/or batshit up deep down? I always thought that was part of the appeal.

>> No.7882719

Does that mean I can get past Level 5 with all girls in any route? And is the additional CG only if I get 3 hearts on one girl without getting any heart on the others?

>As for Finnel's cosmosphere, aren't all the girls kinda fucked and/or batshit up deep down? I always thought that was part of the appeal.

Yeah, that is correct. I think it's the selling point of AT. The Cosmosphere adds a magical feeling to the game. If the magic could be improved just by trainning, etc, it wouldn't be the same thing.

Still, I don't know what to feel about the alternate personae in AT3. I kinda miss the different costumes from AT1 and 2. I'm kinda of a cosplay fan, and some of the costumes were really nice. But then again...Sarapatra~. I feel like I haven't missed a single red beat bar since I've unlocked her body.

Also, I should say, it wasn't really so much the fixing itself (as you said, that occurs in every AT girl to some degree) but more the actual way you do it on the last level. >Does that mean I can get past Level 5 with all girls in any route?

The point of no return in the Saki/Finnel CSes are at level 7 or 8, iirc. You can't clear them completely, but you can get farther than you could in AT2. With Tyria you can do the whole thing in any route due to the weird nature of her CS.

>And is the additional CG only if I get 3 hearts on one girl without getting any heart on the others?

There are only 3 heart points to distribute- at the camp early in phase 2, when you arrive in the Clustanian slave district towards the end of phase 2, and when you get to the Rinkernator in mid-phase 3. The events of the last half of phase 3 (and the normal ending, should you go that way) are determined by who you gave the most points to. If you split them 3:0 you get an extra scene with CG in phase 3 over splitting 2:1, but 3:0 also locks you into that girl's ending (regardless of if you clear her CS) while going 2:1 leaves you with the option of going for Tyria or Cocona (but not the girl you gave only one point to.)

You're a perfect fit for the Atelier games then if you stomached Atelier Rorona without any issues and even took the time limit into your stride.

It's really oddly addicting trying to work out how to get every effect to appear on an item, failing to get the desired result then doing it again. Going back to the simpler system used in Mana Khemia, it almost feels like cheating in MK2 that the item description even lists what quality you need for the effects to appear.

I'm not going to ask what route I should take, but will my decision prevent any more diving/character development/song creation for Luca? >> No.7887956

>>7887912
Unlike AT1, you cannot go through all the cosmospheres in a single run. It's the same with AT3, but in AT3 the lock outs are at a much later level.

If you chose to side with Luca in Phase 1, Cloche's cosmosphere auto-locks at Level 5 and vice-versa. If you decide to continue with Luca, the third reyvateil's cosmosphere will also auto-lock at level 5.

So yes, depending on your decision, you can lock Luca's cosmosphere out since at that point, she is asking you to commit to her and she will not show you any more of herself unless you give her your commitment. Regardless, you'll only see one full cosmosphere per run unless you put off the decision until much later on so you can see the third's with just one forked save.

Well you can get 3 endings with one save, just don't dive past level 5 with anyone until the final save then you're free to clear the reyvateil you picked during phase 2, the third reyvateil or none at all. Reload the save and repeat until you've cleared the 3 endings. This leaves you with only one ending missing but you're stuck with gimped song magic for the whole game which honestly isn't a big deal.

>> No.7888507

Unless you've also done a minimal level + no equipment run, having gimped spells isn't really a problem at all. I'm specifically talking about Ar Tonelico 2, but if there's other games with this kind of fighting include those too.

I'm hoping as the game goes along, there are at least combos depending on what direction I point at to activate different attacks. If it is just replacing the generic battle menu using directions and pushing a button to ALLOW you to choose a direction to press, then I gotta say, I'm not a fan.

On a second playthrough of Rorona, trying to get Astrid Ending. I could go for the other ends by saving smartly, but Astrid is top priority before I move on to other games.

I like how Rorona isn't *completely* a nicey-nice girl. For some reason, the funnier moments in the game are the rare moments when she slips out a snark/attitude. I actually thought, "Dang" when Astrid banned a kitten from the workshop claiming he's a distraction and Rorona retorted, "I think it's a lot less distracting than having you wandering around here."

Hey, I've just started playing Ar Tonelico 2, and I'd like some help with a problem with the screen going haywire whenever I go to (I think is the world map screen). Of the times I've tried it, I got this unmoving screen with clouds the first time around, and on the second time, it was just a black screen. The music in the background is still playing, and from what I can make of it, it seems that I could still select maps by moving the arrow keys around, so it's not entirely a crash (besides, if I pressed x at this time, I'd go back in the same map I came from, so I assume that means the selection was on the part of the map I was already at)

Just wanted to say that that was one of the best themes in the game. It's a shame Luca's version isn't quite unique since it's reused in the ending (I beat Luca's route last and was disappointed when I got to this part and found out it's the same music I heard three times already).

Hello Valued Customers and Arland Adventurers,

The release for Atelier Totori is right around the corner and we are glad to have your business! Right now we'd like to fill you in on the current situation with this title.

Normally, the ship date is the day that we send the product to other retailers and also the time we aim to begin sending out the orders to our customers. Sometimes things run extra smoothly and we can send out our items ahead of the date listed on our site.

However, due to the manufacturing schedule on this title, Atelier Totori will leave the manufacturer on September 26, and arrive at our warehouse on September 29. As soon as the items are received, we will begin processing and shipping them out to customers. We apologize for the delay in shipping, but rest assured that we will keep you updated, and once your order has been shipped you will receive a shipping confirmation notice via e-mail.

We would like to thank you again for shopping with us. We appreciate your interested in our products, and hope for your continued support in the future.
Best wishes,

I don't know anything apart from what is said then:
Tower shut down, no song magic, but a peaceful world instead, and Misha (since I'm doing her route) gets to live a normal life, fin.

Phase 3 feels like a slap in the face so far.

Fuck western game reviewers and any opinion they have on a japanese game, If you don't like the game or RPGs just don't review them. I garuntee you that people who buy NIS or Gust games will no matter what IGN or someshit says and people who hate JRPGs and "pedoshit" will bitch about them anyway.
These games are for a niche market, there is a very good chance it won't appeal to even one percent of the population so people should quit bitching about these games that don't tickle their fancy.

For the record I love WRPGs more than JRPGs, I just hate fanboys and people who hate games they have never played.

Harvestasya XP and Vista are manifestations of the third towers main systems. XP is the mainframe and Vista is the subframe, both of whom control various systems in the tower. Because Vista had her personally hacked and changed she gave abuse to any human she saw and had quite a mouth on her. When Tilia seen this horrible personality she then proceeded to call her 'shitframe'. Yes, Tilia is awesome.

Well, it's an estimate.(Another guy, got the exact same mail except the date when I placed the order)
That's the arrival expectation, btw, they expect shipping going October 17, 2011 - October 26, 2011.
Damnit, and the other item I ordered with this, the new Rune Factory, also got delayed to November. That order was cursed. Atleast I'm picking up Dark Souls locally and have Resonance of Fate until then. Still, I can't really say I'm happy about this.

3 backloads all of its good parts, as opposed to 1 and 2 which spread them out over the course of the game, so while it doesn't really pick up until phase 3 once it does it remains in said picked-up state through the end of the game.

I have been playing Totori for a bit now and I have to say the gameplay and mechanics are much more polished than in Rorona. Menus are better and there is less dicking with loading screens around between stores and jobs.

The thing I don't like is that the tone is much heavier than in Rorona, one of Rorona's best selling points was how light it was. Also, Totori~n has given me a hard case of the not gays.
