Touhou's a series of shooting games that's been around since 1996 and is popular in Japan on a level comparable to Pokemon these days. The entire series is made by an alcoholic dude in his 30s and is meant for experienced STG players. Its merits are really, really good music, fun (sometimes competitive and extremely difficult) games, and an art/doujin fanbase bigger than any other in existence.

MLP is (and always has been) a 22-minute long corporate toy ad for Hasbro meant for little girls. Its merits are being a forced fad on 4chan, initially picked up for guaranteed rage material, that spiraled out of control when autist/asperger kids mistook it for the next big bandwagon because they are physiologically unable to tell when someone is being serious or joking.

It looks like this same forcing type behavior's happening with this MLM shit and hence will soon be under similar control as MLP.

Yeah, that phase lasted for like two weeks until the /b/tards started forcing it. People on /co/ welcome any new cartoon at first because they are starving for new shows; look at how much praise Gumball and AT get for example. Basically, the idea at first was "ah, cool, this is a lot better than the old MLP" but once the generals started.. well, they haven't stopped, and have contributed significantly to /co/'s downfall. If it wasn't for MLP taking root (which it did "ironically" at first) I highly doubt this MLM shit would get anything other than an occasional spit/sneer from /co/.. but now on /co/ you get 300 post generals with a lot of people wistfully saying "you guys are being ironic.. right? right?", even though they know in their hearts people actually like it because MLP attracted a bunch of fucking awful people to /co/.
