For instance:

>However, I did something that never happened before: I masturbated just reading texts, not seeing sex scenes. The NTR feeling in this game is STRONG, that I played the whole game almost all the time with my penis erect, just reading texts, without see any sex scene, since you play the game the whole time by the point of view of the protagonist, never from the point of view of the girl, this make the NTR feeling more stronger. NTR games need to be like this, because, If you see so many parts of the game by the point of view of the girl, this mess up the NTR feeling.

Being a cynical asshole and trying not to enjoy a story for what it is will not make you enjoy MLA. MLA needs for you to understand Takeru and Sumika fo fully grasp this story. Yes Extra isn't up to par and is kind of generic but it needs to be read. Unlimited is better but from what I know of you it will just look like Extra with a military coat of paint.

I feel like I got the general gist of the relationship between characters, seeing as I did read about 2/3 of it, and then the summary filled in the blanks. I also read the endings of Sumika and Meiya, so I didn't just CTRL through the entire thing.

A 7 is still a great score for a moege though. If you give a moege more than that, then I dunno. Have you done Tama's route? It's pretty fun. Not to mention it has some great replay value after Alternative.

Also, Unlimited has great world-building and some really, really good moments. No Sumika, sadly.

Both obviously don't hold a candle to MLA, but not many VNs do. They are average and above average respectively, hardly a pain to read unless you want ALIENS AND KILLING AND DEEP right off the bat. People seem to love to take a shit on them to avoid the backlash directly hitting MLA.

Unlimited introduces an excellent setting, but basically reads like the first 1/3 of a story, where it just kind of builds up and then ends in the most disappointing unsatisfying manner possible, before anything has actually happened at all. And at that point, it will be voted on by other people than just the people who played through the entire series and took it all seriously, instead of people skipping the boring parts and completely missing the point on the supposed 'kickass' parts. Idiots came in, completely missing the point, and rating it lower because 'the mystery and violence is good, but the meta-bullshit really screws up the pacing'. Perhaps it was. But that did not change the fact that the fully released Umineko 1-4 dropped in rating as it got more popular. I'm not saying it's THE BEST THING EVER, but as things get more popular, more people who aren't into it will rate the game and the rating will drop. Currently, MLA is practically only voted on by people who
1) Liked the premise enough to play it within half a year after the translation's release
2) Actually read the important parts of Extra and Unlimited, and were interested enough in Alternative to trudge through them
3) Aren't reading it just because it's popular; and
4) People who don't go in expecting something completely different than it really is (the informed minority has votes so far, the uninformed majority has yet to vote), completely missing the point

As more people (read: newbies) discover MLA, more of them will play it despite lack of interest in the premise just because it's popular, completely skip Extra/Unlimited, and completely miss the point of the story. This leads to lower votes.

I hate Extra, and I understand that MLA without having read any of Extra and Unlimited is a blasphemy, so I'll let that serve as a barrier so I won't misjudge Muv-Luv for the wrong reasons. Don't expect newbies to do the same, though; they'll skip straight through Extra and Unlimited for the KICKASS MECHA ACTION and then rate it a 7 because the action is awesome but there's too much bullshit in-between.

Heck the heroines except for Akane actually don't matter at all in the plot.

Of course MLA's rating is going to go down. Most of the people who got their hands on it up to now had trudged through Extra for what it was and read unlimited on its own merits. Extra gets a lot of shit for being bad, and I'll admit that if it were a standalone product, it would be utterly forgettable except for perhaps how utterly cliche and generic it was. It had a KGNE jokes and Initial D jokes, and other humor that no normal would ever be expected to understand. By itself, it's a 6.

Unlimited, as a standalone, isn't that amazing either. It's got some solid worldbuilding, which I've got a serious writer hardon for anyways, but if you read it as a follow up to Extra, it's great because all the conspicuously bad parts are replaced with badass and you finally get to see the generic smartass VN protagonist get the shit knocked out of him and start o show something that resembles something more than a cliche for a personality. By itself, it'd be a 7, with Extra, it's an 8.

For many of us, that was it. End of line. No guarantees that this fabled "alternative" would ever exist. So when it does come out, even in a leaked state, going into it blind was probably the best possible scenario. Extra is still terrible, but you can see that it was terrible with a purpose.

Going into muvluv with the attitude of "I just have to slug through this to get to the good parts" is like going into a book, movie, TV series or even video game and just skimming over the first 2/3 because people tell you the ending is awesome. The ending is awesome BECAUSE the first 2/3 are spent setting it up. To skip that is completely shortchanging yourself and the work.

Though, I'll admit that muvluv does have some pacing issues. Goddamn infodumps.

>> No.7858319

People, I watched the Tsukihime anime, and from that I can conclude that Tsukihime's plot was terrible!

People who call Extra as good as or even better than Clannad have obviously only seen the anime (or seen the anime then skipped through the common route because it's 'not important', making you as bad as people who skip Extra and Unlimited). When it comes to slice-of-life, Clannad is top-tier. If you really hate slice-of-life, you'll still dislike it, but in any other case you would notice Clannad's slice-of-life is infinitely better than Extra's. I am a fucking slice-of-life fan, and I dropped Extra because of how terrible it is. Clannad's slice-of-life is interesting and funny, while Extra's slice-of-life is not only generic, but so unremarkably executed that it's painfully boring.

Seems like nnl was treated better than Ixrec

>As for the MangaGamer/Amaterasu Translations news, ixrec has never said a bad word about us, so neither will we. Call it mutual respect. In addition, we're not qualified to comment about it. However, we'll just bullet the following points:

> - nbkz and bamboo are old friends, which helped things quite a bit. A handshake agreement happened perhaps one or two weeks after our first e-mail to minori. Our situation was unique in this regard.
> - minori owns everything pertaining to the visual novel, so there was no subcontracting BS.
> - We have a direct line to nbkz, the CEO of minori.
> - We had to use this direct line in order to obtain the alpha build. MangaGamer had given us one story while nbkz gave us a conflicting story. After the miscommunication was cleared up, we got the build. See? Communication is good!
> - No Name Losers also had a contingency plan in the event that we never received a build in a reasonable amount of time. Thankfully, we never had to put this plan into action, and we probably never will.
> - minori has granted us full override on the scripts. Therefore, you will not see any text or replacement issues like those in Koihime Musou. We're bypassing MangaGamer (to a certain extent; we'll explain later) and sending the scripts to minori directly. If there's any text issues in the release, the blame will rest wholly on us.
