/jp/, what do you think of anime's cultural impact on japan and their level of depression?

I ask because i've seen a trend of people, especially on 4chan, that say they wished they lived in their anime because reality isnt good enough. Basically watching anime is a form of escapism for them.

What im wondering is if first someone is healthily happy before watching anime, start watching anime, and then their expectations of life become too high, leading to depression.

What do you think?

Japan's cultural habit of suicide runs deeper than the emergence of anime in the past half-century or so. I'm not saying modern Japanese people inherit the code of Bushido or something, but it's more like there's a long standing absence of the sort of societal prohibitions against suicide that have existed in the West. It doesn't have very much to do with the Chinese girl cartoons.

Also, I'm responding to an /a/ and/or /int/ thread in /jp/, and no one's going to stop me.
