Are there "westaboos" in Japan? Do they have boards called "nerd culture"? Do they download, translate, and redistribute our media? Do they randomly insert mutilated English phrases in inappropriate times like their weeaboo counterparts do to Japanese? Do they go online and argue about who loves Spongebob more? Do they play games like Failing Birds or whatever and talk about it on 2ch(an)\pixiv?

Tell me what you know, I'm really interested.

Youmu unrelated. Only kidding! Youmu is always related!

For the most part yes.

>> No.7849473

>Do they randomly insert mutilated English phrases in inappropriate times
They do this in their media, of course there's people that do that to each other.

>> No.7849474

I imagine some of them do. Why do pop songs always have some English in them? Do they think it's cool?

>> No.7849475 [DELETED]

There are people there that like American media, but it's not really a big deal. That sort of thing is common in many parts of the world. It's only really the English speaking countries that think it's weird to like foreign stuff.

>> No.7849478

you get these ones that praise british comedy, they are normally from shitty countires though.

>> No.7849485

>Do they randomly insert mutilated English phrases in inappropriate times

They (almost) all do that, or at least their media suggests they do, and I'm sure that it is a 100% accurate depiction of life in Japan.

English is lingua franca and American entertainment is hugely influential, so most of those things do go on without there being anything weird about it. Of course you got your weirdos who dress like cowboys. I don't know if there is a mass equivalent to western otakus. Like when you see a Japanese guy trying to speak english in a video it's just "Oh how nice he's trying to improve himself"

Howdy /jp/, my name is Kenichi Smith.

I'm a 27 year old Japanese Toonaholic (Cartoon fan for you foreigners). I draw cartoons and comics on my tablet, and spend my days perfecting my art and playing superior American games. (Halo, Gears of War, Call of Duty)

I train with my 1911 every day, this superior weapon can shoot straight through steel because it kicks ass, and is vastly superior to any other weapon on earth. I earned my gun license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day.

I speak English fluently, both the Midwestern and the East Coast accents, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about American history and their Constitution, which I follow 100%

When I get my American visa, I am moving to New York to attend a prestigious High School to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become an animator for Nickelodeon or a game designer!

I own several cowboy outfits, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to America, so I can fit in easier. I keep cool to my elders and seniors and speak English as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond.

Wish me luck in America!

>> No.7849638

I went to high school in Japan. I can't speak for the nerd culture, but FUCKING YES they have gratuitous broken english all over the fucking place.

Also, a lot of the Japanese people I met while there were more familiar with the state I came from than the prefecture I lived in. And they put white people in all of their ads. The entire fucking country is westaboo.

This line gave you away (not that it wasn't thinly veiled in the first place).

.45ACP has inferior penetration compared to 9mm Parabellum or 5.7mm (inb4 Marisa etc) as far as pistol cartridges are concerned.

I've noticed that they sometimes use loanwords from English when a Japanese word would work fine. Like saying girlfriend instead of kanojo. Interesting.

Perhaps this is similar to English's usage of French derived words over German derived words for formality? Or am I just notice this because I only see it used through their media and online, and the users are reverse weeaboos?

English is common in Japan. You won't find it hard to find words, terms and phrases in English all over the place in Japan, including in daily speech, movies, songs, shows, etc. Unlike there, you will be hard pressed to find Japanese in America. Since it's so common there, calling the majority "westaboos" would be as retarded as the word itself.

America has a huge influence on their pop culture, being Americanized to a degree is pretty much mainstream.
Asians also love Europe. They're not lazy eternal losers like Arabs or Blacks, do they don't even have any hard feelings about the colonial days anymore, they prefer to marvel at the beautiful architecture the Euros left behind, while listening to Wagner and reading Sherlock Holmes.

>> No.7853055

I don't get why everyone marvels at england and germany so much. they basically copied their entire civilization from rome, and they from greece.

This gets close to the truth without taking too long.

My 2c: The Japanese don't have the attention span to be weaboo in the same way that Westerners are. When something's popular in Japan, it's there, and then it's forgotten. TV celebrities exhaust their relevance in about a year or so, and their name recognition virtually disappears after three. There are Japanese with interests in Western culture, and they do try to hide their power level (?) from their friends... but it's done like a hobby. It's just another thing for them to get good at and move on.
I'd say you'd never see a Western culture convention here the way you see anime conventions etc in the West, but... the Japanese will gather in droves to hear someone talk about the merits of an active ingredient in chewing gum for the elderly. So nothing's off the table there.

because Europe and East Asia have only had regular contact for a few hundred years, and most European achievements in the last couple of centuries came from Germanic Europe, mainly Britain and Germany.
The ancient Romans and Greeks do get plenty of credit for what they did, just look at how their thinkers and entire societies are idolized in Western culture.
But modern Greece just isn't very impressive. Should've focused more on stopping the Turk filth rather than letting your country get taken over due to Byzantine infighting.
