where will I get my http://www.dlsite.com/home/ downloads now? any tips?

Hongfire? Gone? And so the normalization of the web proceeds. By mid 2012 we'll be paying for packages with access to various websites, and if a site like hongfire even existed then, it wouldn't be included in any of the lists. 4chan will be killed at the same time to be replaced by the more normal friendly canv.as
Enjoy the internet whilst she lasts, guys.

Pretty sound theory, the main difference however is that those things has a much longer run.
Which is why now days, even their "core" audience are regarded quite highly and are catered to, but also tend to be looked down upon by others.

With video games, the internet, it's all a business now, just didn't have enough time to become something more.

I tried being "normal" and integrating into the "real" world once I saw the internet was becoming absolute shit, and, well, it's impossible. It's not even that I'm socially awkward or unattractive or anything, I look and behave like a normal person, but I am physically repulsed by other people and the culture they have embraced. A few months into this attempt, I could literally feel myself dying on the inside, I was devastated by what I had seen. I'm a bit different than you. Admittedly I don't mind normal culture. It pains me to say this but parties, sluts, and hanging out with normals isn't all that bad. People are generally much deeper than we would imagine them to be.

I'm just exceptionally good at hiding my very high power level, and what's happening to the internet pains me to no end. Between modern 4chan, canv.as, reddit, iTunes, Chrome, internet plans, ISPs in the US capping bandwidth recently, Steam ("walled garden" system with heavy DRM), and good sites closing everything is going to shit on the internet.

Restrictions, content being cleaned, functionality being dumbed down, freedom being revoked, and everything being locked down by the man.

And now even 4chan (for years) is filled with retards who listen to dubstep and play COD4 and have their bookmarks bar enabled with no bookmarks.

Sigh.

But that's just it. Even if you don't mind interaction with normals, you can't survive just on that, can you? At one point, the internet will become genuinely unusable for people like us, and then that's all that will be left. Furthermore, popular culture is only going to get worse, and that's obviously going to be reflected in real life as well, so you'll basically end up hanging out with those kinds of CoD-loving retards or some variation of them in real life as well. Of course there are still genuinely decent and pleasant people out there, but everyone is influenced by popular culture to some extent, and the worse it gets, the worse the state of humanity will become. What will you do then? What is there to do?

Games have always been short and lacking depth. Honestly I think they were better when they could be beaten in 2-4 hours and the plot was "save this guy/planet from the badguys."

The focus on visuals(not just graphics, but cutscenes and mouth motions and so on) over gameplay and the rewarding of shitty players is getting on my nerves, however. Also I hate excessive voice acting. I'm probably alone in this, but I'd prefer characters to not make noises unrelated to fighting something, taking orders, or giving me feedback.

I'm a person who masturbates to monstergirls and futa. Who listens to vocaloid music and Touhou remixes. Who collects special edition versions of games and figurines. Who plays doujin games and reads visual novels for story.

After interacting with normal people in my workplace and new home, I can say this: I am not compatible with normal people.

They are so utterly normal. So bland. So unpassionate. It literally disgusts me. They claim weird or strangeness without even knowing the definition. They assume, judge, and think so linearly, confounded when wrong, as though it's impossible.

I hate them. Just being around them pains me. I'm strange to them, but not undefinable. Label me as a nerd, or stupid, or socially awkward. And as if I really am those things they criticize me for not having what I don't want, and offering me what I don't need. All while ignoring my protests and wishes.

If the ISPs leave their systems open enough, sure. You might find yourself eventually with everything but http over port 80 being blocked off 'to combat piracy' (https to registered sites, ssh allowed only if you register with the authorities and install the ISPs rootk^H^H^H^H^H support kit onto your computer (wouldn't want those pesky terrorists using it to plan out attacks, would you?)
We don't know how bad it will get, you might laugh at what I say, call me a tinfoil hat, but all signs point to our rights online being restricted further in the future. This time 10 years ago would you have believed me if I'd said that the Americans would be taking over sites by demanding the DNS entries be handed over to them, and using this power to take down overseas gambling sites as well as pirates?

People are only interesting when they're sperging about what they like doing. Even if it's playing UNO, I'd rather talk with that person than sit down with people I don't know, and try and make small talk. I don't care what you own, who has sex with who, who you'd bang, or anything about your "status."

Tell me what you fucking like to do, when you're not trying to impress someone. Tell me why. Not the "why" you think I'll like to hear, but what you really feel.

If it's something like murdering little dogs, I will probably not talk to you again, but I'm sure someone out there is DYING to talk to you about it. If you're honest, you will probably meet that person, one day, when they also get some cojones to discuss what they actually like doing.

Even if it's vapid, who you are is better than you pretend to be. Once you realize who you are is sort of vapid, even to you, you can embrace other stuff, too, and become even more interesting.

The only time humans are interesting is when they express idiosyncrasies and eccentricity, which is why intoxicated people tend to get along better with each other, and why parties only work with alcohol. You stop pretending, and just let loose. The side effect is that alcohol exponentially increases asinine and violent behavior, but that's because fools don't know when to stop drinking.

>They make you look like an uneducated fucktard whose opinion isn't worth bothering with, regardless of what you are saying.

Oh, I see. Well, you forgot to capitalize the first letters of a few of your sentences. That must mean that everything you said was invalid.

When you walk out that door, do you think anyone's gonna care about you!?

Therefore, all of your arguments are completely incorrect right this minuteness.

Try asking one of the @. You will see why no one is talking about this.

it's been....how long now since it happened?

how long do you think they've been answering the exact same questions all day to every new name that joins the channel?
It's almost surprising a mini-FAQ hasn't replaced the MoTD with a "if you pester a @ with a question answered in this MoTD you will be kicked from the channel" type message at the end of it.

What the fuck happened in this thread?

Anyway, RIP Hongfire, the final good web 1.0 website. Unless you count bakaupdate/mangaupdate or stoptazmo. But they aren't so good anymore.

I doubt its much if not even one person said anything about it in public chat and they didn't even make it public, just the OP here saying its a decision from Hong, I doubt many people know about it anyway.

I'm not even sure if OPs post is 100% valid, did anyone talk to one of the admins? Don't feel like pestering them if someone already did.

Go ahead. No one have ask them directly.

I never cared much for games, just HCG.

Any good places for that?

I asked in the thread but never got an answer.

If a new thread is made, shouldn't it have the IRC channel in the Opening post?
Then again, that might just flock people to pester them needlessly.
