A dreamachine is "viewed" with the eyes closed: the pulsating light stimulates the optical nerve and alters the brain's electrical oscillations. The user experiences increasingly bright, complex patterns of color behind their closed eyelids. The patterns become shapes and symbols, swirling around, until the user feels surrounded by colors. It is claimed that using a dreamachine allows one to enter a hypnagogic state.[4] This experience may sometimes be quite intense, but to escape from it, one needs only to open one's eyes.[1]
Mental phenomena that occur during this "threshold consciousness" phase include lucid dreaming, hallucinations, out of body experiences and sleep paralysis.

You know, if a Hypnagogic state is basically sleep paralysis, you're tossing a bunch of people into having a terrible experience in the dark, ITT. opening their eyelids to find out that their limbs can't move, and a figure is standing right next to their beds, ready to try and suffocate them.

Yes. This is a common phenomenon when attempting to lucid dream and such, or sometimes even while just sleeping normally. If you accidentally wake up in the middle of sleep paralysis, there's a pretty good chance you'll hallucinate, since you're on that threshold between sleep and wake.

Since you get the impression it's hard to breathe, and you can't really move your limbs, you'll probably hallucinate with a monster or a person attempting to suffocate you. It's really terrifying.

This happened to me by accident once. I woke up in the middle of the night, only to find out I couldn't move my limbs. And before I knew it, I saw a faceless figure standing over by my window, looking outside. Then the figure started to come over to my bed, and I panicked reeeeally fast.

I ended up breaking out of the paralysis by breathing really fast. I realized I was in a cold sweat. One thing I knew though, the person who tried to suffocate me, was myself.

It was really cool.

>>7841838
Yes, you can clearly see it. It'll probably be dark so you can't see the face, but you'll clearly see it coming towards you and attempting to sit on your abdomen, or raising it's hands down to your neck. There's always this pattern.

Yes it is that bad, i am not sure why the human brain is capable of making you see and hear such things.

Its like looking at yourself in a mirror when you sleep walk, the brain cant recognize what you see so it almost makes shit up at random from experiences.

And if you have seen horror movies you know that mirrors= bad so the brain fucks you over by letting you see some sort of monstrosity looking back at you.

No, to anyone asking, there's no way to prevent sleep paralysis. It's a normal reaction, your body just "shot down" for the night. If you're attempting to lucid dream on purpose, you'll come across it whether you like it or not. If you're just sleeping normally and end up waking on it, tough luck. Just bear it out and pee on your bed while you try to scream in horror, having no results.

Turns out my dog had decided to sleep on his chest and he thought it was a monster and he had been stuck staring at this beast for a good 10 minutes.

I now understand his horrible experience a little.

I can just imagine Anons screaming at their dakimakura for a good 10 minutes.

I had the sleep paralysis once. I woke up but was unable to open my eyes or move at all. I could hear clicking and see bright flashes as though someone was standing beside my bed taking photos. It didn't so much scare me as fill me with rage, but no matter how much I struggled I could only twitch a little.

I can't do it. I tried to sleep but couldn't even close my eyes. Guess I'll be staying awake for the night. Curse this thread and the guy who started the sleep paralysis shit.

I sleep like a rock, and I've never been able to lucid dream. Hell, it's rare that I can remember a dream even immediately after waking.
Feels bad, actually, knowing I'll probably never get to experience anything like lucid dreaming.

You just put a hilarious thought into my mind.

I imagine an anon hugging his dakimakura before he tries to lucid dream, saying out loud how he will meet her in his dreams.
Then he falls asleep with his dakimakura on top of him and thinks it's some unspeakable nightmare when he enters sleep paralyisis.

Poor anon is frozen in fear and screaming his lungs out in his mind while his waifu pillow just lays on top of him with a lewd smile on her face.

Perhaps his waifu pillow is a trickster and likes to scare anon out of mind before using her body to soothe him, pressing his head against her flat chest and feeling his rapid heartbeats against her while smiling impishly and berating the anon for being such a coward.

If you really wish to experience hell..So be it..

First you should watch as many horror movies as possible, +points if they have mirrors as themes.

Next you need a big ass mirror next to your bed that you can look into without having to do more than open your eyes.

Third, buy a cat or any other creature that is awake at night that can make creepy noises.

The rest is just learning how to lucid dream and get yourself into a sleep paralysis state.

The horrors may not be scary but they are there to add information to your subconscious, the brain needs to pull pictures and images and so on to create the monster from.

And i would imagine new info has a priority in a way, especially if it involves horrors+mirrors.

As the brain cannot understand that the thing in the mirror is you, it creates images and looks that fits in from previous experiences to the current situation.

Or something like that..

oh god this topic made me remember one of these i had. i guess thinking back now it was a sleep paralysis nightmare thing. i was about 12 years old or so, and i shared a bedroom with my 10 year old bro. one night i woke up maybe around 2 AM or so and way lying on my side facing my bros bed. i swear my little sister (6 at the time) was just standing there at the foot of my bros bed staring at me. after about 10 minutes i got really freaked out, she wasn't moving or nothing. so i start shouting at her to do something but still nothing. i eventually work up the courage to get out of bed, go over there, and it turns out to have been the sheets of my bro's bed fell in a certain way that it looked like her. how that added up to an extremely realistic version of my sister i dont know.

then onetime when i finally had my own room, i had a dream i was at my grandfathers house and it was totally empty. i was wondering around abit when suddenly a giant mosquito appears and bit me on the neck. i started scratching at it screaming for it to get off and then i woke up. i ran to the bathroom and i was bleeding exactly where the mosquito bit me. i also had blood under my fingernails so i was scratching so hard IRL i started bleeding.

also not a nightmare but one night i swear i was a female version of me. my name was the same, i lived in same house same family. i was just eating dinner (pasta with mushrooms). nothing to indicate i was a girl, i just was for some reason. (really weird, why couldn't i do something cool...)

>> No.7842396

Why does everyone in this thread insist on dreaming scary /x/ things or failing at lucid dreaming?

I just sleep. If I lucid dream I just imagine all kinds of interesting or pleasant scenarios. When you imagine something behaving in a certain way in a dream, it behaves in that way. If you "will" that you go no-clip out of your house, and fly over some mountain range, then have a fairy pop up in front of you (random, but perfectly possible example,), you will have that situation. The hard part is NOT waking up if you get overly excited.
As for sleep paralysis? I think I had it a few times, but it's usually when too much of my senses/brain is active/awake and I'm unable to fall into proper REM sleep. It's a bit annoying as your brain functions slower and you're aware of faster subjective time passing, which also means a lot more stimuli from the environment are happening faster than you can process, which is a weird subjective experience, but then all you have to do is go with the flow, like you do in most dreams.
Damn, people, dreams are to be enjoyed!

A half dog creature, kind of like Nina, but a little more deformed and slightly moldy. There was absence of presence in the eye area, not even sockets or light.
The image itself didn't scare me, but the perception of something else than myself shot me jolts that something was wrong which freaked me the fuck out.
That's how it normally works for me.

>> No.7843072

I get sleep paralysis at least once a week, if not more. Usually it's because I took a nap during the day. I found that it doesn't happen if I leave the TV on when I go to sleep.
When I was a sophomore in high school, I became obsessed with trying to have out of body experiences, and would go into a hypnagogic state 5 to 10 times a night. I wasn't scared of it, but I've reverted to terror for the last 5 years.
I never see a figure, probably because I can hardly open my eyes. I have difficulty breathing and I think I'm going to suffocate. I struggle to move and become incredibly tired, physically. The scariest part is that I get the sense that someone is watching me and I have to leave the room for a while after I awake.

>> No.7843239

>>7843072
Worst that's happened to me was a deep but girly growl, like a small child trying to sound tough or scary, and indeed succeeding at both. Never actually saw anything, only heard.
>The scariest part is that I get the sense that someone is watching me and I have to leave the room for a while after I awake
Ditto. Though that happens almost every time I sleep, not just with lucid/paralysis.

>> No.7843272

I get sleep paralysis every now and then but I've never hallucinated and after reading about it I'm not very scared of it before.
I hear though that it's related to genetics and some have more severe cases than others which makes sense since just about everyone I know in my family has had it in some form.
Used to be terrified as a kid of the creepy shit they'd tell they've seen, monsters, demons, old ladies sitting on them, that kind of thing.

Now though I just try to get up and it's more of an inconvenience than anything and I'm not really aware I'm sleep paralysis anyway.
I have a hard time realizing I'm still asleep and if did realize it I'd probably try to capitalize on the chance to lucid dream and summon some shrine maidens or something.
