The only downside I can see is the bottom/back of the wig being noticeably illuminated.
As for positives, her eyes actually look as you described; not the black on gray orbs that some find to be creepy.

Though, most people prefer some other light source that isn't as strong and can be positioned somewhat off to the side (like a lamp) to using a flash.

>> No.7804669 [DELETED]

>>7804665

there is a hughe difference between a lamp that you position somewhere and a flash.
a flash is a way to bright light source for a small amount of time.
lamps can be adjusted in certain degrees and reflected to create the perfect lightning. flash is up front and to bright.
natural light and good lamps will always be the best friends of a photographer

They have huge HNNNGGGG factor and compared to 50cm dolls and larger, they're far more economical. However the arms pop out when you pose them, and the poses are limited despite the tweaks made since the original flection was introduced. I would buy one or two to get to know them better before hoarding as many of them as you can into a display case. You seem to do a lot of posing so these *might* upset you to a degree.

it really isnt some kind of "fetish" some do have a sexual interest in dolls - not all of them - some just like to take photos or design cloths or create a character.
i guess its not something you have to get into, you just feel like it or you dont.

owning dolls does totally not fit my other hobbys such as golfing, paintball, gaming and whatnot - it kind of sticks out but it makes me happy

Definitely this. Dolls are like models that you don't have to talk to or feel uncomfortable around that can be adapted to nearly any setting to tell a story.

For me it isn't a fetish. I like taking lots of pictures, but more than anything I just like having them around. Something as simple as tweaking their pose or playing with their hair can make me feel better when I'm having a bad day. When I need someone to talk to, they're always around and ready to listen. Thinking about it, I guess I use them as an outlet for my affection, too.

I love the Mio in this pic. The re-makeup job is fantastic.

I don't have a doll fetish, but I like cute stuff. DD Airi hit all my buttons (all 2 of them: It's cute, it's Airi), so I got her.

I bought the Knit Sweater set for her, but it was truly designed for L or Dynamite busts. The camisole looked terrible on her, and the sweater is super-low cut so it exposes a lot of cleavage without the camisole on. Hopefully the next outfit I've bought (a punk-ish styled getup) will look better.

Going from inanimate object to fetish is quite a jump. There is a middle ground there that needs to be addressed.

I think for most of us their various unique expressions have touched us in one way or another that prompts us to buy them. The price point and hurdles to obtaining them adds to the luxury aspect, and their photogenic properties drive us to photograph them.

In more ways than one, they're special to those who own them.

Volks or Obitsu?
I'm also trying to decide on the size. I think the bodies that are around 40cm seem kinda stubby(for both Volks and Obitsu). Also anything above 27cm is pretty expensive. I don't know what I want to do or who to go with. Volks seems more expensive but I like the body types. Obitsu seems to have more body sizes but their heads seem limited for certain sizes.

Photography. The way some people can make the dolls look as if they are alive, without them needing to be people dressed up as dolls. More poseable than fig, less creepy than kig.

Although I cannot stand the way doll joints look so I could never own any of my own. Also most of the big volks or dolfies or whatever they're called and the ones that look like them are scary as hell to me. I don't like those ones with the life-like breasts either.

I just like the ex-cute types and the ones that resemble them.

Except this doll. I want to marry this doll.

My two cents: A DSLR is a more foundational nuts and bolts approach to digital photography and once you get past the short learning curve you'll discover that no amount you spend on a camera with excess features will change the pictures you end up taking. Investment-wise, they also hold their value whether you choose to sell them down the road or not.

Pic related, taken with my first DSLR:
Canon D60 (circa 2002, not to be confused with the 60D released in 2010)
6 humble megapixels
ISO100
Shot with just a tripod and a flash.

M43 intrigues me but is still "new." MSRP exceeds many entry-level DSLRs and the lens prices clobber DSLR mid-range lens prices. I'm going to wait for more market saturation before investing in it.

I'd be okay with a modern point and shoot (one with manual settings)
but my point and shoot is a compact from 2005 (digicams were just beginning to go compact), and any light short of sunlight or any iso above 100 results in NOISE

so I figured I'd go just above point and shoot with a micro four thirds (what with the nice sensor and all) for my next camera purchase, since the first gen olympus pen's are so cheap at around 350

>> No.7845956

>>7845734
If they are resin, keep away all oils. This means lotion, oil paint, etc. If you do want to paint them (fingernails, etc), first use a sealant such as MSC or Tesco. If your doll is dirty, most things will come out with water; (don't dunk them with their elastic though, else you may face mold) if not, use a Magic Eraser; works wonders. Sun is bad. UV will make your dollies yellow. You can use all-over sealant/UV spray to overcome this. If they are dropped and their resin gets dented, some dents can be 'popped out' by placing the piece in boiling water. If you have trouble getting your doll to stand, or they kick around, they may need restrung (i.e. taken apart and having their elastic adjusted)

HTH.

Came yesterday. In the box the doll was in two pieces and the chest was very loose so I figured maybe something happened to it during shipping. Like most everything I mess with, I ended up breaking it. Atleast it wasn't the clothes or head. I was planning on eventually changing to a body with magnets so I guess I'm going to go ahead and do that right away.

The body itself is very fun to pose. I'm eventually going to get a new torso and head for it along with some clothes.

wow, thank you!

also if anyone else is looking into putting on eye decals anytime soon, I found this after a quick google
"I next dip the decal in the water for no more than 15 seconds and then place it on the non-porous surface and wait for it to loosen from the paper backing. This is by far the most important tip I learned from the FSM article. Decals come with a water soluble adhesive on the back of the decal ink and carrier film. It is this adhesive that holds the decal in place on the model. When you dip the decal in water, the water dissolves the adhesive and allows the decal to slide off the backing paper. Many modelers (including myself) make the mistake of leaving the decal in the water too long or place the wet decal on an absorbent surface. Doing either of these things just causes too much of this adhesive to dissipate into the water or the porous surface. This can cause the decal to curl up at the edges or not stick at all."

The other night I just dropped the decal+backing into a glass and waited

I made models with similar decals as a kid but never thought about what I was doing, and they worked well back then.

Ran out of sun and didn't have artificial white light on hand; I'm still learning the ropes on lighting but she's very fun to pose.
I'm wondering if you guys prefer to buy new clothes for your dolls or buy extra dolls/parts for your collection? Maybe somewhere in the middle?

I'm about to get my (hopefully) last DD. After that it's mainly clothes and accessories. There aren't many parts to buy to be honest. I tried to set a limit and not get any more dolls.
