About the lack of sprites in Muramasa: I actually like the way they did it there, partially because I don't like headswaps taking space on my HDD. It also allows for some cute super-deformed portraits, like Ichijou's orz. And, well, they did need to fit all those Tsurugi sprites, which require more varied poses to illustrate the fights.

I do pity the people who got portraits, but didn't get the sprites. The spy woman from Ichijou route doesn't even have it in the fanbook.

After all the hype I decided to take a look at Grisaia but after reading a few reviews in egs it looks like it's unfinished or something.

There is no problems like akogei, the routes in grisaia are long, well developed and end well.

The problem Japan had with it was that they wanted a route for one very awesome character in particular.
I can understand I guess, she is a character with a lot of potential and a lot of thing about her are still mysterious.
If she had a route grisaia would probably be in the 90's in egs.

The character in question, for her personality basically take Ririko from Sharin no Kuni and makes her 10x more awesome.

Muramasa is more flying magical power armors than walking robots. Baldr Sky's fights happen in a matrix-like internet and the shumicram are just digital weapons you can switch into, it fits the action gameplay nicely. 95% of the mecha stuff in Baldr is in the action gameplay which is fast-paced fun. so you are not reading about mecha batlles but playing them yourself in it. Muv-Luv is more traditional in its mechas and it's about reading and seeing the mecha battles with some nice production values. Muramasa is about flying kendo with armors that have jetpack molded in them, so it isn't your typical mecha action you read in it.

This is Fujibayashi Ryou:

-Uses her position as class representative to approach the main character.
-Cannot shuffle cards.
-Explains everything off as "maiden's inspiration."
-Even though she might not even be a virgin.
-When she tells your fortune with cards, everything turns out the exact opposite.
-Likes the same person her older sister likes.
-Consults her sister about this even though she knows her sister likes him.
-Uses her sister and manipulates her into playing cupid.
-Her cooking can be considered a harmful substance to mammals.
-Her fashion sense is bad.
-Makes the main character go to her favorite shio tonkotsu ramen place instead of

her sister's tonkatsu.
-When she realizes that she has lost, she quickly plays good and tries to help her

sister.
-She will suddenly drop her feelings for the first guy and start going out with

someone she has only met once in the past.
-Even though they hadn't discussed having children yet, she pretends to be pregnant

and tricks her boyfriend.
-She may have the popular knee socks attribute, but so does her sister.
-She doesn't move around enough anyway, so there aren't many chances for her knee

socks to be seen.
-Getting with her is actually technically a BAD END; this is a message from the

creators saying "don't go out with just anyone."

Nice Bitch.

Rance Quest looks like dungeon crawler + Dragon Quest. I was pleased when I played the demo to find that, seemingly, regardless of the new design the battle system plays like dungeons in Sengoku, but...

I can't really get into it. One part I really enjoyed about Sengoku was playing the role of a ruthless and able conqueror, the defiance of social and ethical norms. For a large part, that's what Rance himself is about too. Like, seeing a country full of hot shrine maidens and arbitrarily deciding to make all of them your bitch. Generations of alliance, powerful foes and demons, fuck them, you can make those your bitch too. That atmospheric element, not just vanquishing the dungeon but making japan itself into a play thing, comprised a large portion of my experience.

I'm really skeptical of letting the nation/world/universe wide tactics go for this title. Expectations? Minimal.

Yeah I played it. I thought it's a letdown after KnS but it too has a pretty great climax in the true end and nice G-senjou like ending. I hated the time limitations everywhere though, whoever thought it's a good idea needs to be shot.

So yeah, I started playing this and have already done Kurugaya and Rin's route and I gotta ask one question- is every end to this game this fucking inconclusive?

For Kurugaya route there was some shit about how the whole world would not allow Riki and Kurugaya be together and everyone began losing their memories, repeating, snowing in July, etc. until finally the main character (and Kurugaya?) forgets each other (actually I think it's implied that Riki was the one messaging Kurugaya in the end just that she had no idea who she was but whatever). So yeah, just complete nonsense.

Meanwhile Rin's end is Riki collapsing right after class with the narration saying I've done well getting this far. In other words, more nonsense.

Only the grand route left in Tenshi no Hane.
So far the game is good but not great, I wasn't bored but I wasn't impressed either.
What made Itsusora and Asairo was the characters (and not the kanji puns or whatever).
You had characters like Konome, Mememe, Hiyo, Harutsuge, Araragi.
All awesome characters who got a lot of believable development.

In Tenshi no Hane the characters pale in comparison, sure Sora, Hanene or Hikaru are cute but that's all.

Also the protagonist Ayame is far FAR too perfect, to the point where he almost feels gary stue-ish
Sure Sasamaru in Asairo was also nice to a fault but he was also quirky and unique, Ayame is really nice, trustworthy, has max stats in every areas, it's just too much.

New Nitro Chiral site finally got an update, release date slated for February 24th. Seems like we won't get any great Nitroplus releases this year, but will get lots of them in Winter.

The plot looks interesting too.

Currently playing Dai Teikoku. Amazing game, extremely addictive.

Waiting for Sonicomi, which was delayed one month. Trial ver is fun but way too short. Cant wait for the full product with all the clothes, accessories and locations available.

I think that Clannad is a god tier.

From what I've played, Ikikoi isn't a bad bakage but it's nothing really worth reading, and for tsundere lovers only.
Tenshi no Hane is good but not great, I expected much better myself but it's a tier below what I would consider the best of the year.

And for IroSekai I'm currently reading, it has a great setting, and mood, the characters aren't bad too but so far it's been a whole lot of nothing. Currently in Kanna's route and I really hope Shinku's route is as god tier as they say.

>so far it's been a whole lot of nothing
all four routes are like that and it doesn't get that much better (I thought Mio route was kinda decent even if I didn't like the heroine that much, and Kyou is interesting but her route is pretty bad)
I went through them because I never skip shit but you might not have qualms about downloading saves so just throwing that out there

And finished HinataBokko.
Common route was enjoyable.
Heroine "routes" were a fucking joke. Ridiculously short, with ridiculously little buildup. And the ero was quite fucking bad and horribly cliched, even for eroge standards(with the exception of Shizuma's, which was passable).
By the way, don't bother reading this with the MG translation if you don't understand at least some spoken Japanese - the translation in latter parts is hilariously bad to the point where it makes no fucking sense whatsoever. And that is AFTER applying the patch.
Though translating bloomers as "Bulma" made me laugh a bit, I admit.
I still 100%ed it, since I wanted some slice of life and liked about half the girls, also because the game is so short - though VNDB lists it as 10-30 hours, the only way you'd go past 10 would be if you re-read the common route every time.
But yeah, it's shit.

7702767

Mother of god. I finally finished the first two routes, Kanae's and Ichijou's, in Muramasa. This... thing, it's just amazing, and I hear that Muramasa's route along with Chachamaru's end are even better.

For the routes that I've read, even though I like Kanae better, Ichijou's route was slightly better than the former: that fucking battle between Kageaki and Hikari near the end, and THAT NAKED KAGEAKI with the fortified fist. I couldn't help myself but to yell "MACROSS ATTACK!". Grown up Ichijou also looks smoking hot.

So far, the writing's great, and the VN really is funny during the comedy parts. The visuals are just great, and the music, can't forget about that.

So there's my disorganized ramble about Muramasa. Onward with the remaining ends, and I think I'm gonna read Grisaia before reading Janen-han to cool off from Muramasa for a bit.

I'm going through Clannad at the moment. All of the routes sort of suck. I'm wondering if Nagisa's will really be worth it. Some of the comedy is good but most of the drama so far has just been completely retarded. And I liked Kanon so I think it's a Clannad specific thing.

I played Majikoi. Majikoi was awful. But I can read it while extremely fucked up and not feel I am doing it a disservice.

I want Yuno. Badly. I considered reading it with Atlas but everyone said to be respectful. Plus Spin will eventually finish it. I believe this month might even be possible.

I'm thinking of checking out that monster girl rape game. But it sounds plotless and I want something with a fucking awesome plot.

I want Re-write really badly as well. I would pay good money to see that translated. And I have good money because I have been balls deep in work.

You are mad because I pointed out the obvious deficiencies in Index.

1) There is no plot progression. It's just introducing new girls every book and ending with a near return to status quo. Isn't it so convenient that Touma doesn't remember anything that would force narrative progression?

2) Naruto, at least the first series minus filler, is probably better than 95% of VNs. That's because 95% of VNs are mindless sex romps and don't even really deserve to be called VNs.

However, the community of /jp/ generally doesn't discuss these, or if they do like things like Water Closet, etc, they acknowledge that they lack artistic or dramatic merit. Majikoi is probably around Index level in quality. Naruto, as a whole (still minus filler), is probably a bit less. But all of them do not compare to things like Swan Song, Cross Channel, Higurashi, Umineko, ML:A, Saya no Uta, or even YMK, in terms of merit.
