>14 shows that over Q3-4 of 2010 that Social/Smartphone apps have brought in roughly 42% of revenue while arcade/console brought in 14.5%.

>28 shows their staff resourcing in 2011. The top line shows that they only have consumer development at this point, no more arcade dev.

>33 shows their focus on smartphones and what games they have in the pipeline for them. Note that there are 2 shooters, 1 facebook casual game aimed at gaijin and 1 MMO

>34-35 shows how they will capitalize on the foreign market: Smartphone and social content.

oh god what

I bought all their iphone ports... What have I done...

>> No.7686239

>>7686233
Well since 42% of their revenue are from 'social / smartphone' games I'd say you're keeping them alive. BUT AT WHAT COST.

I wonder what the sales figures are like, though. Obviously the apps are cheap and can sell more, but are the dev costs of console arcade ports that high / sales that low that it's only 14.5%?

>> No.7686244

>>7686233
You're supporting their development for the handheld market.

Also, I have bought Death Smiles and Bug Panic; the former because I can't get a copy of the game and the latter because it looked like an interesting game. It wasn't.

>> No.7686247

>>7686239
It's not terribly surprising. There's only a very limited number of console ports sold worldwide, and the userbase on iOS is way larger than 360 anyways, even disregarding only j360s. And they're by far the best games of that genre, by such a wide margin it's not even a contest.

>>7686244
Yeah, I didn't buy Bug Panic and I'm glad I didn't. Still, it's nice to be able to support them but I don't want them to forget why their games are so good in the first place. After all, Bug Panic is the only one that wasn't on the arcade first, and it's trash compared to the others.

NO SHIT?
Arcade boards run on overpriced outdated hardware, are easy to pirate and emulate, niche, unmarketable, etc.

I don't get it why people still want arcades to exist. Surely I love my arcade games and memories, but it's the games design and philosophy that I like not the slimy smelly places.

It's about time they got on with the times.

Did everyone just forget about that Nesxica Live system, where the majority of games will be released to arcades digitally (like BBCS3 is)? It's probably going to be their next way to access arcades, unfortunately this absolutely destroys all PCB importers' hopes and dreams.

>> No.7687308

Why are we sad again?

I doubt this is the end of the arcade pcbs and if it is they just make shitty social games well duhhh we will be seeing something that shooter developers are famous for "Guys with said interest in genre leave and form own studio"

Shit we have been seeing this shit since IREM developers that made Geostorm formed Nazca and made Metal Slug for fuck sake guys

Another fine example is G-REV,YGW leaving 8ing and joining CAVE etc etc

>> No.7687318

>>7687305
CAVE gets tons of money by selling PCBs, they will never ever go digital distribution(perhaps on the actual ARCADE PCBs then they only sell physical home edition pcbs ala Akai Katana Limited edtion)

But the Nesxica Live system is only available for TYPE EX2 and having games on typex2 is like shooting yourself in the foot some guy can freaking take the damn pcb with the game on and just dump it to pc and get it running on windows within a week

For the low arcade revenue CAVE has no one but themselves to blame for

Their last game Akai Katana for example while imo a great game it is definetly crippled by the weak SH3 platform which ruins alot of the scoring oppurtunities that would have existed, Hate on second loops as much as you want but they produce more cash as in harder and longer game people prefer to spend their time in a 10 stage game then doing very very very minor adjustments and increases in score in a 5 stage game only.

Most of Cave's 5 stage games would probably be way too hard and long if they extended them 6. I don't even want to imagine a stage 6 in Futari.

Sometimes it fits if the game is on the easy side, like Akai Katana, or Death Smiles, but again those games are on the long side. Zetsu in Akai Katana takes a while to get through, and Death Smiles Mega Black Label is like 45 minutes long if you do everything. That's out of control for a single loop game.

>> No.7687593

>>7687588

Mushihime Sama,Futari are one of the few 5 stage games that got it right

Usually 1-loop games are mostly 6-7 stages
like Mars Matrix,Garegga etc

>> No.7687601

Also whats up with the final boss in Akai Katana he feels more like a stage 4 boss in terms of difficult he does not even do anything menancing hell the stage 3 progear final pattern is more difficult then anything he does

>> No.7687606

>>7687593
They're not really comparable. Mars Matrix and Psikyo games for example have a bunch of stages, but the stages are also pretty damn short. It still take 20ish minutes games to clear those games once, and most of Cave's non-looping games are longer than that (or identical).

Death Smiles and Pink Sweets are too damn long, in my opinion.

>> No.7687610

>>7687606
DeathSmiles long?

Except for the extra stages the regular ones are pretty damn short except the last one

Without the extra stages Death Smiles is a nice length, but the Canyon starts pushing it a little. And then in Mega Black Label Cave decided to add in ANOTHER stage, as if it weren't long enough already. Fuck that.

>So basically everybody is misreading that report. As my wonderful Cave PR rep told me, the fears that Cave are pulling out of console/arcade dev are - his words - "complete bullshit." Essentially, it's just a restructuring. The two departments referred to on page 28 are Asada and Ikeda's consumer game departments, respectively. The teams doing smartphone games/apps are separate. So arcade and consumer dev are still moving ahead.
