I wouldn't consider it cheating in a game like this, more like enhancing the experience. As long as you don't go balls out with the max lvl/money/item cheats it simply makes the game more enjoyable.

The game is also so much better with save states. I feel sorry for poor DS players who had to run back home every time they wanted to save the game while I simply press L2.
