To my knowledge, Kotobukiya so far is 00R, 00Fx2, Shiranui Secondx2, and Super Hornet. Next Revoltech after Typhoon is Super Hornet, then what appears to be Zuikaku (this is the one I have very little enthusiasm for) and finally normal Shiranui should come out about New Year's. You're probably thinking of the second Shiranui Second kit because it's blue.

I noticed a lot of people complained about her bikini top getting changed to a smaller one, but every proto image I've seen it's obvious that it's always been small. I do know some of the earlier ones from a magazine scan the bottom hem wasn't detailed in but the middle bottom strap was always that in that place.

I think this image pretty much sums up why I can't get behind the plamo line though. As much as I love to be an accuracy fag, most of the poses just don't feel right, like the joint positioning is off or something. (well, I'm pretty convinced the jump unit arms are off the mark on at least the first couple, missing from the lineart as they are)

They need to release some damn character figures to go with the console release other than one exclusive figma, by the way. There is like nothing decent out of armoured suits, for a start.

So yeah, Kotobukiya (at least on the first two molds) jump units kind of suck. Everything about it is bulky when put side by side, which kind of confirms the worst of what I thought.

Kotobukiya 00R, Volks A3 00R, and Revoltech Shiranui, which you'll just have to go with because that part is the same. Revo is somewhat odd on the 00s in that they have a separate buttplate rather than attaching to the back of the leg armour, but that keeps them from hanging down weird places when the leg moves.

It's worth noting one other major difference here that the Revoltechs have massively sculpted out calves so that the knee can bend all the way without that 3-part leg thing going on. That means fatter legs compared to the really skinny Volks ones but not so much compared to Koto. Revo joints on the weapon racks seem overkill but at least they're white coloured on Second.

Anyways, that's enough of that.

The Takemikazuchi suffers from being the first in a model kit line. The leg's articulation becomes awkward because Koto tried to be as accurate as possible with the black piece in the middle of the leg. It improves a bit with the Shiranui second kits, it's still not exactly as natural bending as say the MG Gundam for example though, but that's mostly due to the design.

What went wrong?

The short of it is they approached the leg the completely wrong way, and messed up the shape of the back of the leg.

What they did is have the upper joint near the back of the leg, and for some reason sculpted it so the space the joint should slide through doesn't work (joint is too square, arch is too narrow and far down) so the arch has to have another joint to get out of the way for it to move at all, and they needed to cut back part of the calf to get more movement on the bottom side.

What should happen is that the knee joint mostly rotates within the upper leg and the lower leg armour gap should be wide enough to slide over the thigh arch. But the way they shaped it the thigh and calf are way closer to each other for some reason as well.

As mentioned the Revoltech's rotation all comes in the calf, so that's a pity, but at least it works.


By the way, as I was finding lineart to figure out how the hell this was supposed to articulate I finally found some with the jump units and I don't know what the HELL Koto was thinking. Wrong size, wrong shape, and the mounting arms don't look like anything. (Volks seemed to use the EF-2000 design on a bunch of TSFs that should have had different ones) Revoltech actually seems to have the best sized ones, funnily enough.

Admittedly it is hard to judge because of how damn far they stick out, but to get the bottoms to line up with the same spot on the leg with the top in roughly the same place the Koto ones have to be angled out so the tops are level when viewed from the front and it feels like they have more angle front to back as well.

Upper leg seems to be about 70% the maximum width of a jump unit's main body (excluding the fins) here as opposed to 50% on the plamo.

The slot gap on Kotobukiya's really is a joke, the lack of an opening could be throwing me off even if I'm somehow not reading the size right. The length on the 00C art in this book seems like it might be a bit longer and closer to the kit but the gap is huge on it.

Looking at these scans...it's like, I can see a basis for some of the things Koto did, but they still didn't do them right and I don't get it. Like the jump unit mounting arms are structurally similar to what's on all the Euro ones at least but they push everything outwards by making the arm's shape more complicated instead of just seating the balljoints in the ends of one section. If they had something like a figma or Revo joint you could make them perfect. (and the Revoltech ones would be pretty correct were it not for the size of the joints)

If I could come up with a way to fix the knees (and maybe bulk up the elbows) and get cheap Volks jump units or something I'd probably really start considering just modding them. But I think the legs have a lot of sculpting issues for what I'd want to do and that's way out of my league.

I was wondering about that too. But it says that the polymer doesn't melt into the water, it just becomes perfectly clear but retains it's round shape when submerged (that's how they're able to reposition it, and use the polymer balls to make the stuff float in place). So I think it wouldn't be any more damaging than water. I'm going to see if I can find the materials tomorrow.

(Minami Kuribayashi for the first game still) Milky Homes before them, and after them is GSC, Madoka, BRS, Type Moon, and Dog Days for some reason, they don't even mention Nanoha. Evening is Steins;Gate, anime industry talk, Goodsmile Racing, and figure industry talk including Apsy.

Yeah, I guess. It would also be helpful because a. a normal thread after this one will probably mean having to make a new thread in the middle of WF spam (which will happen anyway) and b. there might not be as much of a frantic rush to post everything the second it's been seen as usually happens with those threads. Some horrible cellphone camera picture of a Sanae GK might not be worth posting if a better photo was seen the day before or something.
