You should play Tama route because it's fucking Tama route. That's all I can really say about that.
You don't have to play Ayamine's or Chizuru's but it helps to understand them a bit more.
You should also wait until you've finished Alternative to do Marimo's route because it will mean a whole lot more.

Everyone played Muv Luv only for Alternative, it's pretty much a given they'd find Extra shitty since they wanted to get to the promised "masterpiece" as quick as possible.
Playing it without knowing much about what you're getting into is a completely different experience.

MuvLuv is from 2003 and it shows. People didn't even know how to make good comedy-harem VNs in those times.

I started Muv-Luv because everyone was talking about Alternative in a VN thread on a about 2-3 weeks back. Downloaded it, and went through it all in 2 weeks. Still suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
But yea. Extra isn't really shitty, it just isn't as good as Unlimited and Alternative. On it's own, it's good. But considering it's merely a PART of the story, it really shouldn't get the hate it does.
