Regardless, I didn't want Mio to die because she would have to overcome her extensive shyness and fear as character development. Ritsu has to live so she can be the tough gal to lead the K-Ons forward. Yui has to live because she's Yui. Likewise, Azu-nyan has to live because she's Azu-nyan.

My main basis for killing of Mugi is that no one would be surprised if she started killing people. At least, I wouldn't. She's get the least character development.
