Kanon and Shannon had different shifts, so they were never at the same place. Thanks to Kumasawa and Genji who were/ seem to were aware of the personality disorder.

Realistically speaking, you still should notice something a little off spending 3 years in the same house with someone pretending to be two people.

It's just a really terrible plot device that he delivered poorly. I could understand if Jessica lived in a dormitory for her school time, but then there is still the fact that her parents are dumb enough to pay the same person twice. And don't even get me started on the rest of the cast.

Ryukishi pushed love so hard, but I cannot love such irreparably stupid characters. And one of the only competent ones happens to be the murderer.

Not only that, there are a million of facts hinting towards the fact that they are the same person dating back to EP2, with the EP6 internal love duel being one of the most obvious hints. Only one of them can become happy, even though there are two(three) couples. Why? because there is only one body. Also notice how Kanon's body tend to not be found most of the time? Ep8's main problem was that it wasn't a logical continuation of where the story left off in Ep7, which gets treated like it never happened (making Ange seem like a blithering idiot, and Beatrice, Bern, Will and Lion's characters nonsensical), plus trivializing a lot of other characterization to get across what feels like meta smarmery. I honestly think the ideas and concepts behind Ep8 could have been written in a way that was satisfactory. Ikuko and Tohya were actually one of the stronger parts of the ep for me. But I think a lot of people have a hard time forgiving when the execution feels like it's practically going out of its way to treat the characters like empty pieces who are just fucking around and don't actually have a stake in anything or care about what they've been through before. The flashy fanservice battles just irritated me, and as you mentioned, the characters who were really obviously brought back for the sake of "fanservice" (Erika, Will, Lion) pretty much got their characters trampled on in the process.

Gaap, Virgilia, Ronove, their existence was utterly overshadowed in lieu of the witches and new meta characters he threw in. Gohda was just a cook, pretty much no purpose but to have the body count at the correct number, and Jessica is only relevant because one of the myriad personalities of a sexless manwoman is in love with her. With how Ryukishi wrote her, she belongs in some moe show, not Umineko, maybe he should have tried to at least make her an accomplice.

The adults didn't get much, but as side characters, they got just enough to suffice. Rudolf and Kyrie got fuck all, despite being the killers, which is real fun, the whydunit in this supposed mystery is up to the reader.

It's just simply bad. You get a very real sense that he overwhelmed himself with this story, and didn't realize the fact until it was far too late. Now all he can do is desperately try and save face, and insult his fans that do not mindlessly worship his subpar story.

Anyway, it was all most likely planned and carried out by Yasu, Genji and Kumasawa. Yasu probably hid in the room, while Kumasawa rang Jessica on the phone with the pre-recorded Maria tape, and then Genji was the one that shut off the power. Why? because Yasu wants to create the illusion of Beatrice existing, and Kumasawa and Genji pretty much do anything Yasu says to them.
