Right now I'm playing Arcana heart for the ps2. It’s a good weeaboo fightan gaem for 30 dollars and the replay value is worth every bit. But the problem is the game doesn’t have an online multiplayer option for me to play with other weeaboos. Not only that, the game was more suited for a PC release than a console release. Well, I mainly use the analog stick for everything, especially in GG. The only exception is 2x QCF/QCB, depending on which direction I'm facing. It allows me to roll my left thumb over the left side of the D-Pad, allowing me to quickly execute moves. Especially Sol's Dragon Install.

It's decent. The mechanics are quite simple, enough for even beginners to be able to enjoy the game. The deck system may seem a bit troublesome or even out of place at first, but it allows for quite a diverse styles of play from the same type of character.

SF3, the good KoFs, SvC2, and all the Marvel/Capcom versus games for their soundtrack. Guilty Gear series also for the music. I liked playing Marvel/GG, but I always mentally sighed whenever I did a combo that took off 75% (or more) of the opponent's lifebar. Never took interest into anything past Sharp Reload for Guilty Gear XX. Or Slash, whatever. GG had a lot of shit.

Stopped playing Melty Blood after ReACT. All I remember is that Sacchin was a god. Type-Moon created it to be a Marvel clone with Tsukihime characters (even Nasu stated this) so in the end MB was a pretty dull fighter. The story mode is the best part of the game. For doujin fighters, I still prefer the Touhou ones, even though the balance is awful. They have great music and graphical effects.

Never tried Arcana Heart yet. I'd probably play that with my pants down.

Well, did you (or anyone else) ever check out the Vocal Mixes? I downloaded the GGXX in LA/NY vocal editions from GalbadiaHotel, and I must say, they are truly awesome. They took a lot of stuff from the character backstories for each of their individual songs, and it worked out pretty well. (Disregarding the random "Who's on my side? SOL AND KY!" in the vocal verson of Moontide. That was just weird.)

My favorites... I've got a few. Last Blade 2, Super Turbo, Guilty Gear, and a lone 3D representative, Virtua Fighter 2. I also enjoy Melty Blood and SWR a lot.

Last Blade really does not get nearly enough love, considering it's pretty much the greatest thing ever created.

Fighting games are interesting but man, the community seems pretty bad. They're more competitive so of course egos clash but still, for such a small niche genre you'd think people would be tighter and not be as dumb as they are. SRK.com was basically 4chan before 4chan but with more e-thugs. The whole Capcom vs. non-Capcom games were like today's console wars but happened years earlier.

The community really gets a bad rap over a few faggots like Sion. Overall it's pretty good. I mean, I've spent significant time at a lot of different arcades, and for the most part you always get that one regular who's a TOTAL faggot (ie he makes sure to play in the most obnoxious way possible, talks shit even when he's getting destroyed, makes excuses for every loss, sometimes he's the type who elbows people off the controls but that shit tends to stop after the first time he gets decked... you know the type) but everyone else is pretty cool. Something about trappan and rangin is just... Unfulfilling. You don't get any enjoyment out of the game, you just end up placing a methodical system on your whole play style, making it less about enjoyment, and more about winning. Same goes with Bridget, and, to a lesser extent, Axl. They both have an immense range, and Bridget has traps. However, what fun is there in spamming distance attacks and traps? That's part of the reason I main Sol/Order Sol. You can get right up in the enemy's face, and duke it out. You have room for improvisation and experimentation, giving you more play freedom, and necessitating on-the-fly thinking and response time. Compare that to the bland trappan of some of these 'high tier' characters, and it's a better experience all-round. Some of my matches with Slayer (AI or human, doesn't matter) are some of the most fun I've ever had in a game, just from the sheer speed of the matches, and the joy of battle.

Anyone else think Johnny is fucking awesome? Awkward as hell for beginners though.

There is plenty of enjoyment in sitting down traps or fighting with range. Fighting games aren't all about just mindlessly running towards your opponent and pressing buttons. There's a lot of gameplay involved in proper spacing and baiting. Although I don't agree that Testament is a pure trap character(he only seems that way from a newbie point of view), he can't exactly rush down people the same way that Sol can so he has other methods to fight.

To answer another earlier question, GGXX #Reload for the PC has netplay, it's actually not bad at all. It uses a lobby system

Tatari is pretty much right. I'm not saying that those who like trappan are faggots, it's a legitimate strategy, but doing tourney-level trappan is just stupid in causal-style play. There is plenty of fun in fighting games when everyone is good. It's not like putting down Testament traps is broken either, it's very easy to disarm the traps(just attack the webs to disable them and jump over the trees). And he's very vulnerable when putting down the traps so if he's "spamming" it it's very easy to just hit him before the animation completes.

Unless you want to argue that actually learning how to play a fighting game is wrong and makes the unfun for people that you know.. don't want to learn how to play.

When did I ever say I hated learning how to play the game? I've easily spent over 100 hours in MSPai--I mean, in practice mode, working with either Sol, Order Sol, or Ky, working out combos and developing my own. Everything I've learned comes straight from my own practice, and not from a list of strategies posted on some Geoshitties site about how to win every match. If the drive to win overrules the drive to have fun, you're obviously doing it wrong.

Mark of the Wolves and Third Strike are still the best 2D fighters out there. Generally, Capcom makes more balanced fighting games, but SNK has better character designs.
Even though it has the undeserved reputation of the Poor Man's Street Fighter, I've actually come to like King of Fighters more than Street Fighter (Well, not more than Street Fighter III). I still enjoy the latter, though, especially the fact that Capcom can design a boss without "LOL HE'S FIVE TIMES AS POWERFUL AS YOU AND HAS CHEAP ASS MOVES". Kyo, Iori, K', and even Remy 2.0 himself, Ash Crimson, just are more interesting than Ryu and Ken, though. I'm excited for King of Fighters XII, not so much for SF4, I'm not a big fan of 3D graphics, they're pig disgusting.

for example, most hardcore games play games for challenge, figuring way out of the problem and kicking its ass.

since in 2D fighters the pc is usually a joke, I have fun in beating almost impossible challenges, like beating a good nero with kouma, I like to fight lol deer/snake pressure neros because I feel achievement from beating him, even if it is not a tournament, its just like a higher difficulty on any game from my point of view.

used to play tekken before I moved out. since there is only gamecube in my house I cannot play it anymore and I don't feel like buying ps2 just for it.

though lately I've been playing melty blood even though it's pure annoyance, cpu spams all the time and only effective way of playing consists pretty much of repeating the same combo all the time.
