To spice up the summer, I bought myself two garage kits.

While I do have some limited past experience from warhammer figure painting, I was wondering if there was any good site for general tips on painting anime figures. (Eyes seem quite difficult).

I think it was in the last (or second to last) thread that it was also mentioned something about blowing paint instead of using brushes? Wouldn't mind more info about that either.

Saber face discussion? Saber face discussion.

Unlike the derp face on normal Saber, it's not actually the face -sculpt- on Lily that bugs me, it's that the paint job makes her look too made up. This picture...much less so than what's on AmiAmi, but it's still borderline. What bugs me on the sculpt is actually the overkill armour engravings that feel like they came off some grimdark western shit until you look really close and the wind sculpting is....busy to say the least.

I haven't bought a large scale fig from them though, so I'm not sure if they do it for those as well.

What has people's experience been with the satellite Mandarake stores? When I ordered stuff from the main Nakano store I got confirmation within the next Japanese business day. Ordered something from the Fukuoka store Sunday afternoon board time, have yet to hear about it. Sent them the 3-day email like the initial order confirmation suggests, hoping they read it when they wake up.

The figure is 1/7, which is nice. You'd think that a bigger figure = less imperfections but it's not the case. The little strands of her dress, they look perfect in the photo, but for some reason they start to 'curl' after a while out of the box. They fall inward though, not outward. It becomes a tangled mess eventually.

Her face, yes- the mouth is horribly misshapen, and what I hate about it is that its so freaking *shiny*. They put a glossy paint over it so it reflects the sun and just looks awkward.

Her skin looks really oily when you open her. Somehow the dress is completely matte though.

As for the base, it is *not* the one in the picture. The one in the picture looks kind of elegant, it almost looks like it is made out of wood. The base you will receive will be a hollow plastic that is light weight and looks atrocious, and is too big for the figure. (Typical griffon base with nameplate).

When I first saw the figure when it was first released, the shoes also caught my attention! They reminded me of the McDonald's clown shoes.

If you're really into Haruhi, maybe you should get this figure. She has a lot of flaws but a fan might be able to see past them. It's 1/7 scale too as you know.

There is a reason to why they are top tier ... they dont rush.

Griffon releases every month because they have no quality controls, besides its almost always the same Ikki Tousen and/or Queens Blade ...

GSC also publishes for others ... Orchid Seed, Gift, Max Factory, FREEing, Phat ... in fact they publish a *lot*.

Now Alter is small and they never made many releases per year, a lot of people (myself included) think Alter is on top of the game but the price is they dont put much out every year, I think my last Alter was their Ikki Tousen.

Not really, mechanics work well with Figma and Revoltech as there is much less of a need to mask the joints, if you look at that Akatsubaki you see the only joints they cannot mask is the shoulder joints, the rest is covered by the mech in some way.

As for AmiAmi, Kotobukiya is the only company I seen doing lines ... does not mean other companies do not do lines or that Kotobukiya always do a line but just because AmiAmi did 4 ... well Kotobukiya is on its 6th and so is Alter.

Okay, let's say you try to do a figma IS

1, Assuming you keep the operator in the size range of current figma, with the IS legs they'll be tall as or taller than an actsta (the legs themselves are usually around 4' or equivalently on a figma 10cm tall and add around half of that to height)
2. Every IS has large floating shoulder parts which would either mean (most likely) fragile, ugly clear attachment parts, or require the inclusion of at least 3 stands (a figma stand is likely not enough to hold up the main figure anyways) and severely limit the figure either way
3. Assuming all of this with the huge arms, backpacks, and huge weapons they'd need a much bigger box and you'd be looking at a figma retailing for 6,000 yen+ or something.

What you need to keep in mind is that for mecha girls, IS are -big-. Even the largest Shinkis only have arms like an IS but much smaller legs and absolutely nothing like the back and shoulder gear-or the shoulder gear and not the arms or legs. Blue Tears in particular would be like trying to jam two of those Eva pilot seats plus a gun about as big as BRS in. Oh but wait it has bits too!

It's...possible to do something decent, but it's outside of the scope of figma or especially Revoltech. Someone would have to be willing to go for the action statue kind of treatment really, and at that point you're pushing the 10,000 yen mark and in pretty questionable territory sales-wise anyways.

I understand many of your points but those also translate to figures, a 1/8 will be very big and will drive the costs because they end up being complicated, also I rarely see a mech figure ... sure there is the occasional one but they are uncommon, it seems Mech fans prefer action figures.

I would not be suprised if Revoltech did them at some point, I am not seeing Figma but they might ... higher chances that this going beyond this release.

Well, the problem with a Revoltech is that it's either too damn big for a Revo or the girl is going to be too damn small to fit Revo joints in.

Statues have a much wider range to play with in terms of size and price than a fixed toy line. Robot toys seem to be able to survive in high price points better than character toys, so maybe that would help but it's hard to say how many of the people who make things like Soul of Chogokin and GFF Metal Composite possible care about IS.

Ultimately the designs look really liable to be finicky, unbalanced and overall difficult in toy form regardless, so I'm willing to roll with statues if they don't completely screw the posing, and I am someone who has bought half a dozen Nanoha figures and they all have joints. Speaking of which, fucking Canada Post.

Maybe, I still think the only problem with joints is the shoulder and they have a bit more room to work in there, arms might look to have issues with weight but they must be dealing with that for a while, I think Revoltech even uses a internal skeleton.

The only reason I pointed for action figures is that is very unlikely you see a line of IS's figures due to price ... its a question of how far they want to go because if you look at Figma Kos-Mos they gone far with her, its more justifiable for a 3,000-5,000 with a line of 6 that going for 10,000+ figures, sure some people might buy the line but I dont think IS is that high up on mech fans list for Bandai's Soul of Chogokin and GFF lines.

Lets just hope for the best ... something decent that its completed and will not require us to sell a kidney to buy.

Her quality is flawless, but not a tiny amount of details and actual sculpting. I mean you'll get what you pay for, her hand will not be completely wrong and painting job will be fine too. But it's still Griffon so it's not Alter's Dizzy-tier or GSC's Saber Lily.

I guess it might be a little off topic, but does anyone own one of the disgaea 4 trading figures by Shishikuiya?
The preview images look pretty disappointing, but I don't collect trading figures so I wouldn't know if that is the standard. At $80 extra with tax+shipping for them it seems a bit steep since the 9 random box from amiami is ~3k yen.

I'll probably just put that money towards some other fig unless someone can confirm that they look better than the previews since Flonne is the real draw here. Disgaea Archer Girl + Etna would be an absolute buy like D2 set I grabbed for about $5 each. I already have the Nendoroid Fuuka which they excluded anyway so I guess I'm good on D4 figures.

Run the tracking number through USPS or whatever service serves your area.
