If you ask me, it's about making threads that are both interesting enough with topics that are broad enough; and not make things too limited or complicated.

Sometimes, making a few easy-to-understand statements or posting an interesting board-related image might be good enough. But in the end, I honestly can't see that many patterns in what makes a thread popular. It seems that the posters in the thread are just as important as the OP, and posters and their interests vary from day to day.

However, please try to not limit yourself or have too narrow expectations of what kind of threads /jp/ users might enjoy. The only thread I've ever made that got more than a hundred replies was the thread I was the least certain /jp/ users would enjoy. Don't give up, and good luck!

The best thing is to not post any text. Just post a picture of a Touhou, a VN, an anime or anything /jp/ related and watch as the discussions just start.

It seems it can't just be any image though. There needs to be something with it that catches people's attention.

One example is the Myourenji bath-time thread from yesterday that got a decent amount of replies, but another example is the anon posting the SSiB ballroom scene many months back. I really enjoyed that thread for some reason, just a lot of good, laid-back Touhou-related discussion. But like mentioned before, it takes a good day on /jp/ for those threads to take of.

OP, this is /jp/. Just post something Touhou or VN related, and don't say anything that would make anyone consider you a "normal". The stupider you make it, the more replies you'll get.

It also helps if you make really obscure references to something within said VN or touhou. This makes other /jp/ers you're one of them.

I can't believe there are people on /jp/ who actually keep track of how many 100+ reply threads they've made. I thought we were all masters of this shit.

I don't know. I rarely make threads. Don't worry about making threads with tons of replies though.

I rarely make threads and they never get far. I usually make them about something that's been fascinating me recently and don't expect many people to care.

It's okay man, I love metathreads on /jp/ too. Despite the fact that half of my posts get reported, I've learned how to carefully tiptoe along the border of shitposting in order to avoid pissing off the janitors/mods (>implying /jp/ has mods) enough to get a range ban on my dynamic IP. I really like VOCALOID so I post news about the program and new characters but I usually get 2 posts that are not me.

I thought that /jp/ just didn't like VOCALOID but then I see Miku porn threads and that thread about the studio deen VOCALOID looking so cute with 100+ replies I start to question my posting style.
