Maybe there just hasn't been anything that really resonates with you lately. It's been a little slow recently. I don't know if you watch anime but there's so many bishoujo this season that I am sure a ton of nice figures are already underway.

Ultimately appreciation for art is the foundation of this hobby, and it can only be so entertaining. I'm in the same boat at the moment. Seeing all the new HobbyJapan scans the past few months and new releases, I find myself really bored. I don't think the recent releases are particularly shitty so I'm wondering if my passion for this hobby has also decreased.

Ponpo, how have you been so active & indulged in the figure industry all these years? The fact that you hardly buy any figures for yourself yet have been so enthusiastic about them is kind of impressive.

Shitty pic, but this came earlier today and I finally had the opportunity to unbox it.

Overall extremely pleased with it, but mine has a small paint defect on the right edge of her blouse, and her right foot doesn't like to fit in the peg very well. I'll sand the peg down eventually so no biggie. Overall great craftsmanship though.

I'm assuming you ordered from HLJ? You just wait and hope. Always go with a guaranteed preorder or an instock over a backorder. I've got some stuff on backorder (well, mix of in-stock and backorder) and I'm hoping they get it in because right after I ordered some other sites opened up actual re-release for a couple of the backorder items. from experience i can say that the backorder isn't always going to give you a positive result. they'll try/place an order with the manufacturer and wait for about two months and if they don't get it they'll cancel the order.

For me, those purchases are for room decorations. Rather than muck around with it, grab a great looking fixed and it's done. All I need to do is dust it from time to time. All I need to do is grab a nice looking glass display cabinet and I can look into grabbing nendoroids as well...

Just got the order confirmation from mandarake for this. Gonna be like $180 after shipping but still a hell of a lot cheaper than I've seen her on ebay, amazon, and conventions.

Her details should be green not blue, her ribbons are too big, her awesome cape is missing, the arm "cannon" is wrong, that stone on her feet is missing and I feel that a Utsuho fig should have a nuclear danmaku around her or something else to express her nuclear powers.

Its just a pic of a GK, all the other pics i've seen of it are green instead of blue. I agree that the whole cape missing and nothing on her legs is a bit annoying, kinda less okuuy. As for nuclear danmaku, that would be a bit distracting, If I really go overboard maybe ill make a nice base/diarama and have some otherwise ill just have a nuclear/radiation symbol on the base. Heck, for that matter I could sculpt a cape, the elephants foot (i believe its called) and the electrons around her other leg.

Also, about the ribbon, yeah its not even the right shape or anything. Her cannon is fine, haven't you seen the "okuu's fancy cannon" pool on gelbooru or danbooru?

The two things that bother me the most are probably her face (can be painted differently so no biggie) but mostly the third eye, its just a brooch on that. It may not be the best okuu figure but its one of the few on the market and its 1/6 scale, 34cm tall which I guess is nice.

Does anyone buy figures at conventions? I'm an avid collector but haven't been to any large conventions before. I'm planning to go to Otakon next month and I'm wondering if I should cancel my orders for June to buy them at the convention instead.

Anyone had experience with this?

I've only gotten figures at conventions, though I'm not as big a collector as most people in this thread. I find that looking around and being able to stumble upon a nice figure and then immediately buy it is very satisfying. All of my figures are in front of me right now (19 total), and personally I've slowly shifted from the cheap random packs to more expensive but nicer figs. Apparently they sell nendoroids for $70-90, even new(ish) ones like the HMO one. Its a given that you're gonna get ripped off, just to how much is the question.

Don't cancel any of your orders unless you want to pay out the ass for them, expect to pay over 2x as much if you preordered them if you buy them at the con.

Oh yeah, I didn't comment on the eye because I couldn't see it properly from the pic, but if that's really it than it's another big strike.

Her cannon still bothers me. I haven't seen any pools and I don't really care for them, for me the figure should follow the cannon or else I feel like I'm buying something else entirely. In fact I wasn't even sure that was Okuu until I read your post, this is what happens when the product deviates a lot from the original.

Again her powers don't really have to be a danmaku but Utsuho is a character that draws a lot from her abilities, it should have some sort of impact on the overall fig. Like this Remilia fig. Now Griffon doesn't make the best figs and we've all seen how QUALITY their stuff can get, but this is one of the best Touhou figs out there simply because it shows more than just a pretty pose, it shows her actually attacking and one of her main weapons. It helps a lot to express her overall character.

Now comparing something like that with a GK might be a bit unfair, but I've seen some pretty awesome GKs around here before, and you did ask what I thought of it.

I've always gone to Anime North these past few years and have come back with two or three figs every time, but recently I've found that just about everything I see on sale are things I've already bought from Amiami. Odds are you'll still see something you like that you missed, though, so I encourage you to give it a try at least once in your life.

For instance, I got my Kouhime figure from last year's AN, about $80, only a slight mark-up from what it would cost to order and ship online. I even saw rare stuff like the Cross Days LE with the Kotonoha-sama Nendoroid it came with, too bad the $200 price tag was far beyond my budget.

The only thing you can get for cheap at cons are things that they can order huge bulk orders of. Also, beware of fakes if you do buy anything, I can safety guarantee that almost all nendoroid petites (the random ones in the boxes) will be fakes. That being said there are a lot of fake things in general, cheaply printed chinese dakimakuras, fake nendos and so on. The best way to play it safe is if you can actually examine the product (such as dakimakuras) or most figures (through the window in the box).

I was pretty pissed off about most of the touhou cosplayers, especially the furified momeji (shes not supposed to have a tail damnit). That okuu guy's cannon was pretty cool but it was obvious he was a guy, like most touhou cosplayers. I did however see like a 7 year old who was wearing a token hat, im guessing she was trying to be an aya cosplayer but im sorry, that does not fucking count.

I'll chip in my opinion about figures at cons as well. I haven't seen $70 nendos but many many of the booths are actually carrying KO's and pricing them at regular retail price. Be aware of your buys when you go.

I bought the Yamato Ignis one year for around $65 which was a pretty good price...then bought the Koto Kenshin for $80 last year which I found out was a rip off. I panicked at first since there were only 2 at a booth in the back end of the dealer room but I saw one or two later for $65 the next few days.

Picked this up a couple years ago for 35 bucks because of a damaged box. You never know what you might find.
