Have you ever played Dungeons and Dragons: Shadow over Mystara? That was the spiritual inspiration for the game.
The game is based on the old arcade beat-em-ups and has a number of throwbacks (you revive through using life tokens) but it also has mmo concepts such as gear, stats, and you specialize your character by purchasing ranks in the skills you like then you can party with up to three others and take on dungeons or pvp. It's actually a rather unique gameplay experience.

The game is free to play, which is probably most important to the average /jp/er. Over 18 months played and I have spent $10 on NX, and even that was just to expand my storage. But despite that minimal investment I still have full rare avatars/full chron2/25m+ banked.

Man, the PvP in this game really sucks. It's nothing but turtling due to all the interrupt attacks and combos that do 2/3 health.
