>> No.7380412

I would like to say I do, but most of the movies I have seen, in retrospect, are kinda dumb.

I did like My Cheeky Girlfriend, but it is a Korean movie.

yes in a sense they are pretty cheesy, but thats how there film industry works. By chance were those cheesy films suppose to be comedy? If so, they are suppose to be; thats what Japanese humor is.

There was some decent scenes and concepts in this movie, but over all it was just to pervy/MESSSED up for my taste. It was just to cheesy or absurd at other parts. Did anyone else see it to know what I'm talking about?

Not exactly underground, but I did see House at the IFC Center two Fridays ago. Surprisingly good.

I also saw quite a few lesser known Yakuza films during a film forum/series/festival a few months ago. My favorites - Onibi, Outrage, and A Yakuza in Love.

>> No.7382460

>>7382437

I live in New York, so there are tons of opportunities to see foreign films in the area. The Yakuza film series was at the Japan Society.

The IFC center is currently showing Takashi Miike's 13 Assassins and Caterpillar - neither of which are obscure, but both were quite good. For the entire spring, they've also been showing a different Akira Kurosawa film every weekend.

>> No.7382473

Ah I see. I haven't seen 13 Assains yet, but am very hyped about it. Most of what Akira K did became international hits, but it isn't until now that his early movies have become popular; this is due to his now large and growing fanbase.

I have heard nothing but good things of that movie. If you say you like detective movies then try out the series of movies under the title "Mike Yokohama". There are a total of 6 movies that follow the crazzy yet dark investigations of the private detective Mike Yokohama. Sadly only the first movie was released to America.
