I like the third ova too, its just that the last episode really comes out of left field and it a lot of "wut".

I just couldn't really like tokyo and universe after the original, they just do so many things that annoy the piss out of me.
For example in the ova mihoshi is ditsy and certainly not the brightest, but she also wasn't a screaming ass clown brinking on literal retardation like she is in the other two series.
Its even mentioned early in the series that she used to be a good officer but was over worked.

I admit that even hearing that I have trouble believing she was that good... but that's what they said, so yeah.

I remember being so annoyed at the first OVA series stopping right in the middle of all excitement. After that I was unmotivated to watch the others since I just wanted to see where it was going. Still don't know if they stopped there in Japan as well or if only the localization group stopped buying any more of that first season.

Maybe I should download and watch some of it again though. Assuming any of them were good. The stand alone OVAs was not very interesting.

As it is. Kajishima is currently content with how things are with Tenchi.

Most likely he will continue to focus on Tenchi's younger brother Kenshi who got transported to this alien world where he became a king and all the females on the planet lust for his cock.

Isekai Monogatari ended in the fashion that there might be a sequal to it far in the future. Kajishima seems to take time with his projects since he started sketching up Isekai Monogatari back in 1998 but the OVA only started in 2010.

Only OVA 1,2,3 and Tenchi GXP count when it comes to canonity. After you're done with them I recommend you try out Isekai Monogatari.

While it doesnt deal with Tenchi and the rest, the protagonist is still his half-brother and his one of the coolest harem heroes in a few years because he wont take crap from nobody.

Universe is sorta mixed, overall half of it was pointless filler and the best episode segment takes place in the very middle. Considering the directness of Universe, it would have been a much better series cut in half. Thou there are a few really beautiful musical scores for Universe, especially that score playing as Ryoko 'dies'.

I used to like the OVAs the best, but the more time goes by, the more I realize I really like the Universe timeline the best. OVA continuity is just too much of a clusterfuck, and Tokyo is just stupid.

The OVA series is not a cluster fuck, it's GIMPED. Gimped by existing before a light novel market could form outside of Japan and gimped by licensing issues that prevent all of the related doujins from ever leaving Japan.

The TV series, once you watched it, that's it. There is no more. All that's left are two movies that feel out of place and shipperfags who can't deal with Tenchi's final choice. Seriously, having to make a second movie just to drill in who Tenchi picked, that says a lot about how many were in denial.

Thou with the exception of those creepy eye designs, I really did LOVE the artwork in TMiL2. The heavily detailed multilayer backgrounds even looked beautiful on dvd. On bluray, they look like how I imagine a proper release of Princess Mononoke would look.

I'm kind of in this same boat as well. I liked the OVA series best when I was younger, but when I revisited the franchise a couple of years ago, I found myself more hooked on the (first) TV series. I just had more fun with it, even though the plot isn't "deep". I also like the character roles better in that series.
