I don't really watch TV shows.
Only thing I saw recently was like two seasons of Dexter. It was pretty brilliant when it was being a commentary on modern society from the point of view of someone who only pretends to fit in while in reality being completely alien, but it quickly turned to shit. Seriously, who the fuck thought that dropping the only gimmick that makes it interesting and humanizing the protagonist was a good idea? Shows like that really should end at one season.

Japanese variety/reality shows are just as inane as their stateside counterparts, their idol circlejerks are comparable in suck to American celebrity worship, and doramas are no different from our scripted television in that the vast majority are terrible, and we only watch and/or talk about the few exceptions to that rule.
