Personally in, in this case at least, I like 1996 more. 2011's got some uncanny valley shit going on.

While 1996 is simple it looks about right. You can fill in the detail yourself and get a good impression. 2011 is more detailed but not quite there and looks strange (hands, face).

Personally PCB had the best art.

This is a bit of a derail, but does /jp/ think ZUN will ever answer whether or not he considers the PC98-era to be in the same canon as the Windows era?

UFO art was the best. New looks kinda plain and it just doesn't feel right. But yeah, hands are better now. Maybe it is an improvement after all.

I prefer IaMP style

ZUN commissions a different artist to copy his style each game. The last one he did art for was PCB.

I think the real question we should be asking ourselves is why ZUN drew PC98 Reimu with purple hair in all the cut scenes of HRtP when you can very clearly see that her hair is black ingame

Honestly ZUN's new art doesn't carry the charming ZUN feeling that's expressed in the older games (IN, PCB, even MOF)

I've always thought of Sanae as a would-be "final boss" of sorts. When she finally reaches her full potential and harness God-like (or even surpassing) powers, she could be the most powerful Touhou.
