Always choose the female. What's wrong with you?

Starts as a looser, ends up one of the most badass MC in SRW.

Choose the female
Receive bouncing chest for attack animations
It's win win.

Unless it's one of those SRW where they lock in your mech choice by gender. Then always choose whoever gets the real mech. Beats healing every turn substantially.

Which SRW is that by the way?

SRW J. It got fan translated.

You can choose all three mechs no matter the gender, I think. Super, real and hybrid.
And J has a subpilot system so no matter who you choose you get bouncing anyways.

Dang it, I decided to play all the SRW games, in order, to prove a point to my friend that they've gotten easier over the years, NES is literally spanking me right now. I'm not even halfway done the first one and I feel like I've slogged through hell. Old games are just cruel. So it'll be quite a while till I reach J. Ahh well I bet I could save some time skipping over GC.

What's generally seen as the first easy one, R?
You have a long ways to go.

Actually, the super available in this game is fucking monstrous. The Granteed is absurdly powerful, and can withstand practically anything in exchange for a pitiful three or five hundred damage with a health cap of 12,500. Further, J uses a system in which enemies will always target the unit with the lowest dodge percentile. Therefore, the Granteed becomes a literal meat-grinder that enemy forces will dash themselves against non-stop. It actually becomes difficult not to deprive your other units of exp.

Thankfully, you can use the Granteed as a wall by positioning squishy reals around it like a fire-support squad. If you choose the Belzellute (the ranged real), pair it up with a reliable super to act as a wall while it blows everything to hell. It's a good practice overall to maintain amongst your forces.

Also, Mazinkaiser is a great unit as usual. Granteed still blows everything else to hell, but that's typical among Banpresto Originals.

Yea, this is going to be a tough play through, it all started when we got into an argument over him complaining that W was too hard.

W was too hard.

I've beaten W at least 4 times while riding trains back and forth to college and consider it the easiest one ever made. Then I started talking to him about Alpha 3 and how it's easy till the end game where the designers just decided you should stop playing.

He starts in with how it's just one of the rare super-hard ones and I go nope, it's actually easier than most of the older ones and long story short I'm playing through all the Super Robot Wars game.

On the plus side if I manage to beat at least to current generation consoles he's promised to buy me Queen's Blade, the latest A.C.E. and one of the hundreds of Gundam games that never make it over here. not a bad trade for like 10,000 hours of gameplay. Although I'm betting that by the end I will never want to see another grid again.

maybe he just hasn't played that many srw games or is just bad at slg? Suffering through rage-inducing unbalanced gameplay of course is going to make you think the latter, more refined ones are easier. You're also going to be a lot more experienced, too.

Touya starts off as a whiny punk, but quickly (about ten missions in) mans up and actually becomes really likable. Then as the game goes on, he becomes more and more badass, especially in the last few stages. It also kind of felt that despite having two characters to choose from, they kind of wanted you to pick him, what with the romance you can have with the sub-pilots and his whole being related to the Fury thing.

Calvina is alright, but I thought her route was kind of boring in comparison, and I prefer SRW original females.

As for the mechs, personally I loved the Raftclans.

Yea... I've got a secret to confess, I've always tended towards the real robots with the only consistent exception being the Getters. Alpha 3 was the last break I had with that when it came to the DaiRaioh because that scarf was just too awesome to pass up.

>>7340217
Well he has beaten all of the Disgaea games and related ones, so I just assumed he was decent at strategy games. He could have just grinded his way to victory so that might explain it. Although the frustrating part is that he's fluent in Japanese. So even starting out he knows what items do what and what objectives to hit, meanwhile I'm flitting about with my slight mastery of katakana. It took me 2 games to figure out which equipment grants a beam resistance.

Pretty much the only reason I played Touma's route. He better show up in OG3.

I think Touya kind of had a decent reason to be pissed about his situation in the beginning. He did wind up finding his own reasons to fight, but being forced into it like that would still be pretty frustrating.

>> No.7342476

>>7341828

He did. Although he was kind of a prick at first, it was somewhat justifiable. Not everyone is going to be cool with being told "Hey! Abandon your old life and everything you find peaceful to come pilot this giant robot and fight and possibly die for people you just met like ten minutes ago!"

Didn't help that most of the other characters were pretty much telling him to "DEAL WITH IT" and expecting him to instantly be okay with things.

But he gets over it quickly, so it doesn't really matter.

High HP is higher on the targeting priority list than high hit rate. 0% hit rate will keep units from being targeted though.

Super robots are great. Also, it's a fairly obscure series from the perspective of the mainstream English-language game community, so only fans will play and talk about it, generally.
