No idea but I once woke up quiety from a nightmare and to make sure I remembered it, I took a piece of paper from my closet and wrote down 'catastrophic internet failure' and then went back to sleep. The piece of paper stayed there on my dresser for a few weeks before I threw it away. That was one scary dream. I remember standing on my roof and looking at my neighborhood to see my neighbors making fires in 50 gallon barrels. I have no idea why it scared me so badly but it did.

Thing is you don't really remember every dream you have when you sleep. Most people tend to have multiple dreams over the course of the night, and only really remember those they have near their waking period.
So it could help you remember some of those other dreams which are maybe more interesting.

This. I've writing down my dreams for over a couple of years now. My dreams as of late span over multiple dreams, so it becomes harder to separate them.

The best way for me to recall my dreams is to think about it the moment I wake up. I don't stretch, jump out of bed, think about what I'm going to do, only trying to playback the dream(s) I just had. Then I write them down if they're interesting.
