you can take your clown music somewhere else(i actually don't mind the song except for that part... and yes i have said this before on /jp/). although you can take that scream in World is Mine somewhere else while you're at it.

okay, maybe if they didn't include the intro melt would have been okay... but even then it wouldn't match the pop-star theme of the commercial.

my choice would probably be packaged, just because i can't think of anything else more diva-like that was good. world is mine would have been fine if they didn't use the scream.

Dear Toyota, your "Americanization" redesign of Miku was a poor idea. You undoubtedly chose her as a mascot for your car because of her popularity with our younger generation. By changing her design all you've done is upset us (by telling us what they liked is no good), and I doubt people outside of our demographic will care either way. If you really want to capture our market share changing her back would be prudent.

uh, sorry. i didn't mention that i was responding to the idea of changing the approach to an americanization of miku to advertise miku to america.

obviously toyota would care about appealing to miku's fans(unless they are banking on miku making it mainstream in america and thus continuing with the association), so carry on i suppose, but i imagine this is just one of many images to come. the real "problem" is probably crypton(or whoever is in charge of bringing miku to america)'s marketing strategy.

I'll get hanged for saying this, but I really don't have a problem with the westernized Miku model they're using. It's modified for an American audience, it makes sense from a marketing perspective and honestly, she doesn't look bad in that style. She certainly doesn't look as shit as say, Horo on her "new and improved" Spice and Wolf covers for the US translation.

No, the problem I have is with the ad campaign in general. Who's this run of commercials and ads aimed at? Hardcore fans won't go for the new look, and the uninitiated won't have any idea who Hatsune Miku is even after watching the commercial, or what she has to do with cars, or anything at all. Plus that 3D model they used in the commercial was really terrible. I might just go and send an email to Toyota for being such dumbasses (or their ad agency or whoever.)

i respect your opinion otherwise and agree that their approach is likely a smart one in terms of business sense, but if you're referring to the art on the main page...

how can you possibly think that? i'll refer you back to my older post >>7314073. it would be possible to draw her in an americanized style without the witch nose, and in a way that her green twintails didn't so totally clash with the artstyle and everything else about the picture. it just looks ugly, and i'm not even against american art on principle.

i just don't see how huge, green, girly twintails works with a "cool marvel/DC" image. i suppose if you're someone who's into things like hot-topic, it's understandable as that's exactly the style that subculture likes(high-contrast, special-colored hair and a sexy/cool look, although i maintain you can't be sexy with a nose like that). but unlike miku's original art, which most people will recognize is at least cute(if nerdy), hot-topic style is generally regarded as nothing but an eyesore by everyone outside of the subculture. it doesn't look "good" by general standards.

and note that i'm not writing this with the intent of using hot-topic as a bashing term, it's simply the only type of fashion/art i can identify with in terms of what they've done with miku here.

Why are they using the name Hatsune Miku and not Miku Hatsune?

I swear, this Toyota US/Miku deal makes no sense whatsoever.

I don't think you understand otaku, They'll buy fucking anything as long as something like this isn't done.

Do you really think anyone cares about the screaming girl with big eyes except angry weeaboos?

Do you think you parents, or your neighbors would buy a Corolla based off the commercial?

>> No.7315458

It's really pathetic how a lot of people are over reacting over this.

Bawww they're using my miku bawwwwwww. I really dont think Toyota cares what any of these anon have to say. They chose Miku for a reason and they're going to push it.

It just seems that everybody is afraid that useless weeaboo life is in danger by normal fags. It's just a car commercial you dumb fucks. Most people will not think twice about it or even care what a vocaloid is.

>> No.7315460

This is mostly because there is no bright flashing banner at the top of know my meme saying, 99 of these are old as shit and no one actually cares about them anymore except for fucking newfags such as myself, fuck off.

The reason why azns are less ashamed of their waifu collections than in the west is because parents like it when their son shows an interest in girls-having a son with 200 pictures of hatsune miku his bedroom, to the parents, just means he's got women on his mind and will likely end up producing grandchildren once his life reaches that point lol where he starts socializing with women openly and dating.

Cool copypasta, if I had a dollar for each time I saw that one, I'd be rich enough to buy a Corolla.

what!? how the fuck did you end up with that conclusion. Most parents will fucking hate those chinese cartoons and then proceed tell him to find a real girl if they ever found out the real story behind it.

Trust me, any parent is worried when their son is a 20 year old shut in who obsesses with cartoons. No dad will ever boast that his son has a 2d waifu.

It's the same, if not worse in Japan.

Believe it or not, artwork doesn't magically become better or worse if the artist lives in Japan.

That Miku right there? You can say goodbye to that in a few years. Shit produced by America and the rest of the world will flood the internet, the Japanese will copy like they always do(partially out of necessity because they can no longer win their rankings with old-style songs), and then this Miku is going to get pushed into obscurity and become a thing of the past.

You can't save it. And I will be laughing at all of you fucking Vocaloid retards and Miku faggot ephebo/pedophiles the entire way as I watch you squirm trying to. Enjoy.

When you have a family member that's a rabid Vocaloid fan, you learn what they like.

I'll laugh when you see what happens when it becomes more profitable to cater to the West than Japan simply due to the population count of the West, even if it doesn't get a huge popularity boom. You think Vocaloid is mainstream in Japan? You're not so delusional as to think Miku is actually good, are you?

We have more people. We're going to win in time and that's that.

you'd probably do the same shit if something you enjoyed was fated to be bastardized

although i guess the most intelligent decision is just to give up and wait for the end of it enjoying the japanese stuff. no real point in mourning it before it's gone.

if i could produce music i'd try to do something about it but i can't.

>we win because we have more people

That's not how it works, Anon. Sorry. It's about the segment of the population willing to buy into the whole deal. There's no indication yet that the American pop-listening audience is willing to be pulled away from their Britney and Justin Biebers and such. The new, westernized Miku might very well fall flat because people don't like her, or Vocaloid just might not sell in the US (people are going to be surprised, possibly frustrated, when they find out it's actually music creation software that you have to actually know something about to use.)

You seem to be under the impression that Vocaloid is mainstream in Japan. You're not under that impression, are you?

Wikipedia may spam the word "popular" and "lots," but it uses no numbers and provides no demographics. Vocaloid has attained popularity for an otaku product--as in, popularity across different otaku circles, not normal ones.

So, do we have a population of potentially interested otaku-types in the West that's bigger than Japan? Yes, and I think that population alone is bigger than all of the potentially interested groups in Japan combined when we're talking about the United States and Europe. That's not even going into other potentially interested groups. I don't think I need to remind you that Japan is not a big country, by any means, and aged at that. If Vocaloid was a Chinese product I wouldn't be saying this.

And we're not just talking about the Miku Vocaloid 2 product itself here, so the point about needing knowledge to use is moot. Stuff like concerts and secondary merchandise matters too. The image of Miku as you saw her yesterday will become more popular, and thus profitable, than the old one.
