Has it been harder for some of you to enjoy Japanese Culture in it's fullest lately? Where I live it is all about the korean wave. My sisters enjoy Korean Culture and I actually found myself in a position where it is a pain in the ass to get Japanese merchandise.

So how are doing so far in terms of enjoying stuff from Japan? Getting harder to buy Japanese where you live?

i feel like i'm betraying my samurai heart. i can't help it. coreans just are better than japs... i played the ffxiv was it? beta and it was literally the worst mmo i've ever made the mistake of downloading and installing.

coreans are better than nips at nearly everything. i enjoy their manhwa and they animate most of the anime i watch too... the only thing japs still have left is fan art, music and writing the stories for anime and light novels.

http://elizabethmcclung.blogspot.com/2006/06/to-canadian-customs-x-men-means-x.html

>As soon as I declared that I had some of the japanese inspired comic books called manga, a Custom’s officer said, “That’s the stuff from Japan; there is some really obscene and filthy stuff.”

>No, I pointed out, these was printed in America and very mainstream. As more and more officers were called in, the six manga books I had were examined in detail. They were looking, they told me, for pornographic, obscene and adult material. “The age rating is on the back of each book.” (each manga book has ratings like 13+ or 15+ – mine were 13+).

>I was informed that I could have put different covers on or done anything else I could to get the pornography in and that if I spoke anymore, the books would be seized. So I stood there and watched my previously new books get examined page by page, thumbed through and pressed open because it was assumed if I read manga, that I was a sex offender.

>That sounds like a joke doesn’t it. Except the exact same phrase “That stuff from Japan…” was used two weeks earlier on my last trip through Customs and my manga examined for the same reason; because Japanese manga is “really filthy stuff.” The reason I was so heavily raided this time, I found out afterward, was one of the manga titles had the word “boy” in the title, which “alerted” them to pedophile materials. Huh? Can someone please go get my next issue of the romance manga Tokyo Boys and Girls from the US? I’m too scared.

tl;dr Canada is batshit insane about anime and manga.
On the opposite side of the spectrum is Finland, pic related.

i'm not a console playing peasant so i haven't gotten to play many "good" fighters except for that shitfest that is streetfighter 4 on the pc. i downloaded some other software for playing older games over some network shit using their roms. it was okay but it didn't have a scene and the games were old...

Korea is a shithole.

>By far, workers in South Korea have the longest work hours among OECD countries. The average South Korean works 2,256 hours each year, according to the OECD.
>This is over 100 hours longer than the next longest-working country (Greece) and 25% more hours than the average in the United States . A typical workweek in South Korea is 44 hours or longer. Most people start their day at 8am and end at around 10pm or later, often having dinner before returning from work.
>Until legislation in 2004 virtually abolished the six-day workweek in large corporations known as chaebol, South Korea was the only country in the OECD that worked Saturdays.

Korean women also have the most plastic surgeries in the world.

And yes, korean men are sexist as fuck.

This whole "Japan is super sexist" crap is mostly stereotypes that are no longer true.

For Korea it's still 100% true.

plastic surgery and a lot more regular folks like k-pop than j-pop i think. not sure i've read other people talk about how their normal friends like it a lot. i had a very odd experience with j-pop myself.

my niece was supposedly watching anime and listening to j-pop on youtube when she was like between 5-7. i was extremely shocked to hear. my mom was like "your niece is listening to the same stuff you do" i kinda hopped she was wrong for some obvious reasons. i didn't question any further so i don't know the details but i blasted j-pop and various anime ops and shit regularly always. i said was because i don't know if she currently is or not.

it was my first experience in finding out regular people listen to asian music.... but more recently i see k-pop is very popular like over at /v/ and even when i was playing wow people liked k-pop a lot. one person who said he hated j-pop and thought it was trash, and basically said all people who listen to it are worthless weeaboo trash later on got addicted to k-pop shit.

It seems to me that Japanese music is general emotional and/or poetic in nature, which is not what appeals to modern pop culture in America.

And then you have the strain of Japanese pop which is popular with otaku, which generally just tacks on cheering/encouragement and/or cuteness to the above, neither of those being popular in America either.

Seems like Japan had a bit of an American culture importation going on around the 70s-80s, and so it caught on for awhile, and now that Korea appears to have undergone one recently as well people are beginning to be interested in it. This is just me talking out of my ass, though, although others have noted the sexualization of Korean pop music in this thread as well(which aligns with the idea of contemporary American pop culture importation).

OF course it is part of their culture. Just because US manufactures modern guns that have roots in things ancient China came up with, it doesn't mean it's not part of their culture. Korean cars are part of their culture. K-pop is part of their culture. Do you even understand how things work?

I'll quote your first post
>inb4 some tai/weeb "Only korea copies America!"
I've never seen anyone saying that, nor do I think anyone was even trying to say anything like that. The only thing I've seen is "Japan is so unoriginal, it copies America!!" even though every country "copies" America if we go by your logic. So, the joke's on you.

Rented the lost vikings from block buster in like 1993 or 04. Sorry but touhou isn't an existence worth mentioning by Blizzard.

Actually, I dislike Blizzard mainly for ideologic reasons (Kotich's obsession with money), and the only game of theirs that I played is WoW, which is extremely boring, too easy, and IMHO obviously inferior to Touhou, altough it's like comparing apples and oranges.
I don't really know about their other games (Warcraft, StarCraft and all that stuff).

>> No.7304857

Why are you guys talking about Blizzard? None of their games (besides Brood War) are even worth mentioning. Also video game discussion goes in /v/.

Only if you're child born in 99 and only heard about blizzard because of starcraft. How did you manage to find this board? I hope you don't consider yourself a "gamer".

>>7304854
I agree wow is easy but have you ever actually raided seriously being one of top 100 guilds to kill the boss encounter? It's like beating touhou on easy and saying the game difficulty is too relaxed. The solo aspect against monsters is easy but it's that way in any RPG. The difficulty factor is increased in raids because of having to rely on others. It's easy to do your part at high level play if you've got experience but difficult to find others who can do it too.

WoW is an MMO so it's team based shit and the PvP is way to imbalanced and latency based. Like blinking away but still getting gouged isn't impressive rogue play it's disgustingly poor game mechanics. WoW is the worst product blizzard has made in the last 12 years, by the way. SC, WC and Diablo are all more skill based and better. They're all solo based mostly with amazing team play too. Basically the opposite of that fail shit WoW that has fail teamwork and even worse solo play.

I don't like jews either but blizzard games are worth every penny.

WoW with its expansions and SC2 aren't, though.

That's exactly why I stopped playing. Too many retards that don't understand what "get the fuck away from the raid when you have this debuff" or "fire burns" mean.

Now, disclaimer. I haven't played a Blizzard game for over a decade. I haven't played WoW. I haven't played Starcraft much, so can't really speak about it either, and it supposedly only shines in versus play. That said, Diablo and Warcraft are so easy and boring it's silly. You need no skills in them, you at most need to learn a few tricks and then repeat them over and over. From your praising of them I assume you either never played them and just talk bullshit, or are really shitty in video games in general.

The custom games you can play are worth it solely and the single players is actually very polished and made me really look forward to Diablo 3. It was the first single player I actually even

>>7304929
Anything but versus play is completely casual, childish, and laughable to judge difficulty. Playing against AI which doesn't change is a joke compared to players who are trying to reach the principle of the game. Diablo and Warcraft were easy, eh? Yeah against AI sure. Against the best players you can find? Ha, that's so funny of you to joke like that.

Playing touhou on lunatic is like junior high school sports where as playing blizzard games competitively at the higher levels is the world cup. If you want to make some kinda shitty analogy about it.

Then you can as well try to beat the best scorerunners or the best PoFV players. Using the multiplayer argument is pointless in these discussion.

It also puts you into the position of arguing that Scarlet Weather Rhapsody is automatically a superior game to Touhou 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, and 12 for the sole reason that it has versus mode.

It's completely accurate if you want to describe the qualities of difficulty. Do you think people who spend 10 years playing the same game every day basically, polishing every imaginable mechanic possible in the game playing against other players trying to one up them, will lose out against people who play against a static AI designed by a tiny doujin group? You realize the amount of people balancing and improving the quality of player versus player? Spending all that time balancing it to raise the skill cap.

You realize zun isn't the most intelligent and most perfect human and it's impossible for him to even try and create an experience that's comparable in actual difficulty?

I like to see cool lunatic replays and the tricky stuff they do in the spoiler games too, but it's not in the same league as Blizzard PvP.

Zun can't make the AI that's comparable to what others players can offer when they spend the amount of time polishing their skills.

>>7304967
Notice the amount of time people spend playing these games? Tell me who gets paid to play a touhou game 10 hours every day for 6 years at least. I'd say 10 but I'll throw you a soft ball and make it at least 6.

In PoFV or SWR? Sure they'll lose.

What is it that you're asking about? Whether people who play WoW online for ten years will lose against people who play PoFV against AI? In which game? Because in PoFV, of course they're going to lose.

WoW is the worst game blizzard made. Don't bring it into the discussion. I mean the raw game mechanics, amount of time and practice people spend playing each game relatively would make Blizzard PvP the world cup level, whereas touhou games would be junior high school sports.

The amount of points possible that you can get in every touhou game is static. The next game doesn't spawn with extra fairies and at the 4th stage the ex boss doesn't appear randomly making you fight two bosses at the same time. The game attempts to avoid wall ins a lot also. The patterns are mostly static, aimed at the player or change depending on where the player is.

You mention PoFV but the amount of time people spend polishing their skills in PoFV isn't comparable to the amount of others spend polishing their skill set with better game mechanics in say SC. If PoFV you dodge using arrow keys, shoot with z, hold shift for focus and bomb with c. The amount of strategy and tactics you can use it limited and the amount of time you can practice against better/equal people is non-existent.

I'm basically saying AI is shit for determining difficulty since humans will always be better than AI. Touhou doesn't have enough people actually spending time practicing competitively to make the top levels of play impressive.

I gotta take a shower and get the mail so I can write out this months rent and get it in time. This is really pointless to talk about. Good touhou players are impressive to watch and practiced a lot. Good player vs players who use Blizzard games are amazing to watch and practiced a lot more.
