If you don't own a maine coon, you are not fit to be a member of /jp/. These cats are simply everything that a denizen of /jp/ needs for companionship.

They are friendly, affectionate, loving, loyal, intelligent and occasionally goofy.

You can count on them to be there to greet you every morning, and every time you get home, and they come when you call their name.

They are very affectionate and are lap cats who will love to snuggle with you regardless of how many hours you sit on your computer, and adapt easily to pretty much every situation.

They also tend to like figs. Mine will often rub up against my Chen fig and purr.

I thought cats would suck, but /jp/, my life has been about fifty times better since I've gotten "Chen", my maine coon. Sometimes, she'll even watch me play VNs.

All they do is purr like engines when you give them attention. No yelping, crying, etc., unless you make them beg for food. The quietest cats I've ever had. You have to de-claw them from the front, though, since they like climbing to the top of everything in sight when you're not watching.

Some sort of desert mountain cats.

When your cat mouses, it's his way of showing that he respects you, by clearing out the local vermin.

Most cats have specific hunting times. You should watch him and lead him to a specific spot when he brings something back. Try to get him to drop the vermin at that spot. Give him a treat if he does. He'll begin to associate vermin + spot = treat/approval, if you're lucky.

Taking the time out to do this will at least keep him from dropping them in the middle of the floor. It's almost impossible to make a cat stop mousing. The ones that are going to do it are going to do it until they get too old to do it, or until they get bored of it.

The dead bird, seemingly gift wrapped in ruffled feathers and crimson ribbon, isn't actually an offering to the owner at all, but more like a training exercise. See, cats teach their kittens and other dependent family members how to hunt and catch prey in gradual steps. When Fluffy dropped the corpse on your shoe, that was lesson number one in her teaching curriculum. She has noticed your appalling lack of hunting skills and inability to catch your own food, and is trying to teach you, as she would one of her kittens, how to feed yourself.

Cats are like prodigal children. They ignore you for a while, try and do something by themselves, end up embarrassing themselves, and then try and laugh it off by coming over to you and giving you attention, all while trying to look proper.

It never gets old. My Abyssinian had no pride, though. He'd just do something stupid, look right at me, shake it off, and then try and do it again until he was satisfied. Like, he'd try to get to the top of a bookshelf that's impossible to get to, try for an hour to do it, get to a shelf under the top, and just look so proud of his achievement.

Then he'd completely forget about the bookshelf when I fed him.

Dogs just don't have that sort of enthusiasm. Dogs just chase after balls, and look happy when they find the brightly-colored, neon green ball in the black dirt. Cats... cats don't look proud of themselves until they've done a back-flip off your car.

Cats only act like a "stereotypical cat" if you treat them as such for their entire life. Every cat I have ever had has been as affectionate in the "stereotypical dog" way.

Also, maine coons are awesome because they can be gigantic. And abyssinians are awesome because they are abyssinian.

>> No.7294136

I own 5 otomos.
They´re fucking awesome.
They can throw Boomerangs, play revitalizing flutes, throw bombs, use medieval weaponry and kill cattle that is 5 times bigger than themselves.
And when I´m gathering supplies, they help me out too.
They can carry all kinds of shit, from Dinosaur heads/pelt to several logs of wood.
They´re fucking cute too.
They tend to doze off sometimes, but they are well worth it.

>> No.7294167

They act like "stereotypical cats" if you try and be overly affectionate. Cats, unlike most dogs, don't like you being clingy. Feed the cat, return its affection when it decides to show some, and you're good. It'll bother you when it wants you to pay attention.

Abyssinians are awesome. If it didn't cost so much to get one, I'd get another. The one I got was a stray, believe that or not.
