Youmu has some survival advantages that the other characters lack, they're just hard to make use of.

For example her charge slash can one shot the big stage 3 fairies that fill the screen with shit on harder difficulties, but you need to be ready in the right place at the right time with it already charged or you might as well kill them normally.

Oh wow I found a fun Glitch, excuse me if this is known.

It seems the same Glitch that locks bombs and text skipping makes replays playable.
Bombs worked fine in there, I could skip Kogasa's text but not Yoshika's for some reason, they can still be sped up with Ctrl. Yoshika also compleatly skipped over her first non-card for some reason.

I think the only way is to stop bosses dropping spirits during a trance. You would still want to bomb noncards though...

Another thing that bothers me is that even during a trance, it's hard to cash in because enemies still "time out" and don't stop spirits after a second. If it made you get maximum spirits from everything all the time it would feel much more rewarding.

I think the reverse of your first idea would make more sense. trances shouldn't be popping up nearly as often as bombs. so being able to milk a trance once per bossfight should be fine.

I think it's too late for that, a lot of spellcards seem set up to be boss grazed, and it's fun trying to do on the harder ones.

Even with fewer trances, you'd still want to expend them on the boss instead of the stage. I am sure later stages will have more valuable scoring points, but there's literally one in the whole demo that's worth doing. And to get it you often have to bomb the hell out of Kogasa. Feels bad.

I don't know. The rate that you get spirits during a boss is really hard to beat. The enemy rushes don't last long, and often have pauses, so you end up with several seconds of the trance wasted.

here are the known bugs from touhou wiki:
When having Youmu Konpaku selected in the Player Select menu, going back to the Difficulty Select screen and to the Player Select again, Sanae Kochiya is selected.
Replays may crash the game at Stage 3.
There appears to be a bug where at some point during the game, a character's bomb cannot be activated and dialog cannot be skipped. Once this occurs on one character (possibly Sanae being the first to trigger this) the rest of the characters have the same issue. This can be solved by exiting the game and reopening it.
Players have reported the game crashing at the very end of Yoshika Miyako's third Spellcard, the likely explanation being that she tries to absorb a spirit to replenish health when she has no health left at the time.
