Why the hell are vocaloids so popular anyway? They basically got a text-to-voice program, added some autotune, and put a cute mascot on the cover, and suddenly its one of the biggest things in all of japan.

Vocaloid was the most simplistic and easy-to-use voice program available at the time of its release. It gave people with no talent the opportunity to "vector over" songs (kind of like how people vector over anime images, post them on dA, and get many responses). Since it was so easy, many people could do it, and since the majority of talentless losers are males, having a hot chick on the cover who's a robot and submissive to the male's every whim was a golden idea.
