I like how Touhou actually makes a 1cc fun and a main goal of the game, while on actual arcades it's just painful and most of the time you don't even get a different ending for your trouble.

It's nothing to be ashamed of, OP. When I was young I had no problems finishing, but as you get older, you may have to pause and resume a few times before you can do it. It really depends on how skilled you are with your hands, too. If you can get a friend to help you, it makes things a lot easier and more fun.

When does Touhou get fun? 4 years of frustration and I still can't finish IN on easy without using continues.

All of the time, I just try to do IN on Hard and get to Reimu without dying. That is easy to do, but then I shit myself when trying to kill her and end up having to continue (which I don't bother with). I tried easy mode an hour ago and still shit myself on the same place.

So not using bombs in SA is a waste too, since you have to survive but not capture the spellcards in order to gain bonus lifes

The boss is dead before you run out of bombs. And they are generous enough to fit some easy cards in which give you free power = free bombs + star piece.
