What. This is the ending to the series...?!

The final boss didn't even feel like one. The first phase which actually looked intimidating ended so quickly you couldn't even enjoy xaaacli. And what happened to the after-credits gameplay where you go around talking to people. Heck, I was even expecting the true final boss to pop up after the credits or something. I agree with your Zeqs_Ru comment. Even on hard mode it was such a pathetically easy fight that it was over before the song was even getting into its groove despite the fact there was an awesome intro + camera angle going into the fight. Thankfully the stages of Ec Tisia ~ Tarifa along with Ciela kind of redeem this rather easy fight

Makes me realise that AT1's ending boss music had a rather 'epic' kind of feeling to it despite the fact that Mir wasn't really that bad and that she survives yet AT2 and AT3 both start off quite dark and heavy then progress into a more peaceful serene style of music where they both give a sort of feeling of acceptance despite the fact that shit is hitting the fan in both of those games unlike AT1. I wish there was a decent rip of Tarifa though, why on earth would it not be on the OST..

For AT3? BGM at full, voices at like 75% or something and effects at like 60%, I believe. In the case of Tarifa where it's not available on the OST/Hymmnos albums I was slightly confused so I just bought up the battle menu (triangle) and just let the song play itself out just so I could get a good listen without hearing random yelling, Ciela screaming etc.

I must agree though, AT2 just had a rather awesome finale and especially if you mixed up the backgrounds even more with sync chains and such it just looked and felt so good. AT3 was fucking awesome, don't get me wrong, but as you say the backgrounds did indeed feel rather bland while all you had to do is get a decent burst since Ciela generally ignores you until the last phase and even then you can just ignore its attacks.

I think it was just the way the game scaled for me. I'm not saying AT3 > AT1 or AT2 or anything, I just said that it was fucking awesome. We didn't know what became of Tilia, Harvestasha, what everyone was going to do now that the world has recovered, where Cocona was going, Akane's and Finelle's lives from now on etc. There's only a short scene after the credits. It even makes it look like you didn't get the true route. I mean, it's the final game, the least they could do was do a long post credits segment

Yeah, it was great but It's just too short. Would be nice if they pulled a Phase 5 out of nowhere when you were launched into the core... And you didn't really get the chance to converse with Ar Ciel, it just went straight into the battle. Both Mir and the lesbian maidens at least had some dialogue before so you knew where they stood on this. Xaaacli's middle part does provide some background but you don't even get to listen to it for long...

Well for me I had gotten bad/normal endings before true since I didn't know how to get the true ending at first. So when true end came, it really did feel like the real deal. Personally, I sort of like where it ended. The world was now safe to live on and they had accomplished her goal so now their lives would begin anew. Harvestasha stayed in the core of Ar Ciel to maintain the dome up until it fully merged with the old core so its pretty clear she is gone for good. You're right about it having potential to show a little more though...since it is the final game. ;_;

Also is there a "FULL" OST for AT3 that isn't in flac format? All of the mp3 ones I've found are missing a shitload of tracks.

Well in its defence the whole purpose of the last fight was for you to communicate your feelings to Ciela which is the reason why your song magic is changed during the last fight. The planet is hardly going to start chatting to you, no? This is why there's an build up before this fight instead.

And search for the Tarifa versions on Youtube, there's 4 versions with various different styles. They share lyrics with Ec Tisia but sound completely different. Stage 2 of Tarifa is great and stage 4 sounds better than the normal Ec Tisia, in my opinion.

Also the latest novel continues on in regards to what happens with Tilia.. I think. I can't really say since I can't read moon but I recall that being mentioned somewhere, probably the ARM forum.

Yeah, that's it. We could guess what they all could be doing but nothing would feel as good as actually seeing it for ourselves AT1 even showed each character's next plans and it just doesn't feel right that they didn't do the whole "gathering everyone's feelings to sing a song" part

The buildup I was expecting was something like exec_sphilia's. I mean, the planet has a heart of gaea too so I thought they would sync the scene better. I don't think that was the feeling you were supposed to feel when going into that fight though. Of course seeing humans destroy themselves and such is a horrible thing but Aoto and company were focused on saving the planet while trying to convey their feelings to her, that humanity should be saved. They did not risk their lives to go through the sea of death on a potentially one way trip just so they could take pity on Ciela. This might have changed if the planet could converse to you but alas it cannot and all you can do is place all your hopes into hoping that the planet accepts that humanity is actually worthy and that there can be harmony once again.

It just feels like humanity may repeat its mistakes since it looked as though they got the planet to recover by beating the shit out of it instead of getting her to forgive them although tarifa helped in convincing her...
It just feels so one-sided. Like we don't even know how the planet feels about all this. And didn't suzunomiya mention that she represented the planet's ability to sing? If Ec Tisia's was Saki's and Finelle's song then wouldn't it be great if the planet started singing for the first time in 400 years? Finally got around to playing AT1.

I'm at the point in Platina where I have to choose which girl to stick my crystal into, is that what locks me into a route? And does it stop you from going deeper into the other's cosmosphere? Not a big fan of Aurica, but her cosmosphere is more enjoyable than Misha's. Haven't even really seen Shurelia yet so I'm not sure what I'm getting into.

Unlike AT2/AT3 there's no blocks on the cosmospheres so you can dive into all 3 of them while also diving past where you should be in the story so you'll be seeing characters you haven't even met yet and they'll be interacting with you like they've already joined. Not a big deal but just letting you know. And that's not the route option, it just changes which hymn is sung when you get to the battle, I think. I haven't played AT1 in over a year so I may be wrong.

Mir's case is actually different, though. What you fight at the end of AT1 is her hatred taken physical form, both in the monster and that shell around her. It's kinda like weeding out your lawn.

And, well. This probably applies to both: you can't really talk with someone who won't listen. If you beat them up first...

Misha's cosmosphere jumps in quality towards the end, but Aurica is definitely overall more enjoyable. Too bad she's a whiny bitch everywhere else.

Placing the Purger won't matter, but soon after that you'll switch phases, and there's a choice that -will- lock which girl you'll spend more time with. You'll know when you see it. Make two save files before then, etc.,

You automatically get locked in with 3 heart points in AT3. Otherwise you only get locked in if you accept their confession which I believe is on level 8/level 3 for Tilia. For AT2 you get the choice at level 5 so you'll be missing out quite a chunk of the other 2 reyvateils in comparison to AT1/AT3. For AT1 there's no locks whatsoever, you can dive into all 3 girls and 'marry' them and there will be no impact whatsoever on the plot.

You're given 3 heart points as I'm sure you already know. If you put 2 points into one character then the last point in the other you wont be locked into any route and as such you'll have to go through a confession scene instead. Because of this you can go into a true route with 2:1 then go into Tilia's level 3 binary field and woo her or just accept no confessions which puts you on Cocona route.

Of course, that was rather sad, but you also have to consider that Mir used that shell to lock the world and all other feelings out. Sure, I guess everyone would do the same if that stuff happened to them (massive abuse, causing genocide, etc) but in the end that is the wrong thing to do. Locking your feelings away is never a good idea.
Actually, now that I think about it, especially that foetus position. Someone like Mir, sitting there in a shell like that is just like a silent scream for help that gets blocked by her hatred.

As sad as it might be, in my opinion the only thing Lyner really could do was going MAXIMUM PENETRATION on that shell.

Couple things about that...

You're not supposed to actually do physical damage to Ciela. (I remember it not having much effect, and I remember there being disincentives, and she'll blow you away anyway, IIRC.) The only thing that's supposed to carry that battle is song magic, which is Tili^Wyour heroine's dialogue with the planet.

Ec Tisia is almost certainly not Saki and Finnel's song - it wouldn't make sense. What would they have to forgive? In contrast, what would the planet have to forgive?

The planet doesn't really recover immediately - Tsuchiya said it will take like ten years for the planet to really become inhabitable - check out Technical Data Room 3 and search for the text "it happened right away".

So Ec Tisia is sung by the planet after Saki and Finnel manages to slowly convince her that humans will change? So, the song that is missing is the one Saki and Finnel sung right? They said they were going to sing a song to convey all their feelings to her and it just seems kind of a letdown to just compress the whole thing into a quick song magic attack. And this is going to sound funny, but I messed up big time during the final boss fights. I ended each phase using soma's flipsphere so I missed the whole "being able to damage her only with song magic" like you said. Used the x-button songs during a replay and it was so fucking beautiful.

There's two different Ec Tisia versions. The initial version is broken up into 4 stages showing 4 different states of emotion - This is Saki, Finnel and Tilia all attempting to convey their feelings that humanity is actually worth saving and that Ciela should give them a second chance. This is the entire reason of the boss fight. You're progressing through the various feelings that Ciela is feeling as she's slowly getting filled with the pure feelings of the 3 girls desperately trying to cling on to life. I know it's not conveyed that well in AT3 because of how the battle system works but that's how the last 'battle' is done. This is why every time you physically attack her she screams in pain, your 'feelings' from the song become extremely distorted and you are blown away.

The second version of Ec Tisia which is the full version shown in the credits/in the Hymmnos album is the one sung by Ar_Ru after the planet starts to change. Ar_Ru herself is an extension of the planet and she herself is happy whilst singing the full version of Ec Tisia. Ec Tisia means Forgive Everything - The more you know.

So since Ar Tonelico series has ended, would anyone still want a game similar to it? Maybe not necessarily have hymmnos and such, but still have the whole "save heroines from their inner and outer turmoils and maybe save the world while we're at it" kind of thing.

What would people say to a... hmm, a modern/near-future take on it? All righty, now I'm ready to ramble on about the first two games. Note that some of the pros and cons of one game are in comparison to the other (i.e. better so and so, not as good so and so).

Ar Tonelico 1 was pretty good, it was my introduction to the series and I'm glad I started with the first... first. I'm sure some folks here could type up too long;didn't read versions of why the series is appealing, so I'll just sum it up quick with music, characters, lore and story. The adventurous feeling of it all remains me of my time with Lunar and Grandia, too. Difficulty wise the game becomes decently challenging later as long as you don't grind up money to get those expensive cards that give you high-powered crystal enhancements and such.

For drawbacks, Lyner is... kinda dense. Okay, really dense. And I get annoyed with harem protagonists that act all oblivious to girls' advances. I also wish the endings were more different from each other. And I hated the very literal last-minute choice where you choose between your chosen Reyvateil or Shurelia (assuming you completed her Cosmosphere), makes you feel like a dick for rejecting the other. Plus there's very little difference if you choose Shurelia, anyway.

tl;dr:
Pros:
+ Better dungeon and battle music (more on that later)
+ Better pacing (more on that later)
+ Status attacks actually have a use; things like paralysis and frozen (least I think there was a frozen, it basically completely stops the time gauge) can be really helpful in late-game encounters
+ Felt more adventurous
Cons:
- Endings aren't significantly different; the "fake endings" at the end of Phase 2 are actually a little better about it
- Lyner's an okay guy but they really turned up the idiot hero archetype level up to 711 here

AT2 was better than 1 in some ways and not as good as 2 in other ways. The battle system has significantly improved, with a unique take on the phase-based turn system. Your choices in Cosmospheres actually matter. Most of the main characters are better (no, I don't hate Luca). The synthesis system is better, with chat convos with shopkeepers and each heroine making a different item from the same recipe. I liked the endings more as well.

Town music's better, but non-hymn dungeon and battle themes aren't quite as good, imo, and I think there's less battle/dungeon themes than the first. The pacing isn't as good; there are times when the gang is just wandering around as if looking for something to do, while in the first game there was a clear-cut goal in each phase that they work towards. That's how I felt, anyway. The game is much easier. I didn't use Replakia or the hax-powered Third RT the first time I fought the Big Bad. The boss was actually somewhat challenging and I was able to take in the scene.

tl;dr:
Pros:
+ Better battle system
+ Liked most characters more
+ Endings are better and more different
+ CS's are harder and even more messed up than the first game's heroines'
+ Synthesis system better, shop events great... but...
Cons:
- Actually TRIGGERING the events is a problem. Having to go back and forth through towns and having to buy required items for hours is not very fun.
- Didn't get into it in the wordy version, but Dive Therapy sucks and is all a total mess, I don't know if it's the system itself or the translation or what. And good luck getting 100 IPDs cured/fan clubbed and into the fan club, and good luck not missing certain talk topics because you chose to cure as you go along instead of leaving them uncured. Thank goodness it seems I don't have to worry about these two cons in the third game, but I think I will miss conversing with shopkeepers.
- Difficulty got knocked down a peg or two

I couldn't easily choose a favorite, so I avoided talking about hymmnos. I do have a fondness for that music that plays when Aurica is forced by Falss to sing that certain song in the Altar of Apostles, mostly because it plays the entire time you run to her rescue, encounters and all. Felt great. Also the last battle theme (Harmonius), Voice of Life if that's a hymnnos, Misha's purger... shoot, now you see why I didn't talk about hymnnos? I won't even get into AT2 as I would end up with another tl;dr, but I think Cloche's version of Hearts Fluttering (or whatever it's called), Sublimation, Replakia, and that song Third RT plays in the fight against the "Divine Beam" are some of my favorites.

It's a series of JRPGs full of sexual innuendo, anime cliches, and epic vocal tracks taking place on floating towers in the sky where the magic is cast by girls singing songs which are gained by diving into their subconscious and working through their issues in visual novel-style segments.

JRPG + Crafting + Visual Novel

More in depth, GUST's particular style of JRPG has a strong focus on collecting and combining equipment and items to create new ones, as well as interpersonal relationships.

Ar Tonelico is part of this lineage, but lessens the focus on crafting, increases the focus on character relationships to the point that that system nearly becomes a galge, and is set in richly imaginative decaying future world where songs and magic are the foundation of technology and the power that keeps humanity alive.

I know overall storyline isn't the series strength, but seriously why did the protagonists keep agreeing to help Raphael in AT3? He screws them over and over again, yet 2 scenes later and they're working with him yet again. The normal endings are a huge WTF. Thanks heroes for helping us enslave all the Reyvetails! Going to have to agree with some that AT3 is the worst of the series. AT2 was a significant general improvement over AT1, yet AT3 regressed so badly it's almost worse than 1. They recycled 'dungeons' worse than Suikoden III, synthesis was utterly pointless beyond getting more effecient healing items, and the battle system was so shitty I ran from every encounter once I had enough DPs to clear level 9. If they ever make a AT4, or reboot the series or something it would honestly be better off as a straight VN next time.

I'd say AT3 does basically what AT1 did but a little better, though I'd have to agree with the gameplay complaints.

However, I did not synthezise just for healing items and equipment; I did it for the rather silly character conversations that are always a plus. As like every other AT game, since most equipment can be bought cheap from shops or obtained throughout treasure chests.

I do not see how they "recycled" dungeons outside the backtracking, though.

At the end, what makes me love the series is the story, characters, music and lore- and I found AT3 delivering that better than AT2, personally.

Might've been because of the horrible translation AT2 got, or god knows what; but ah, well.

Though, is it me, or the beginning levels of the two heroine's Cosmospheres are significantly shorter than the AT1/2 CS? They also require more DP, most of the time.

Finnel's cosmopshere takes a lot of DP because she spends more time in the active party than Saki.

On that note, I like that in 3 they actually did a decent job of balancing DP gains, as opposed to 1 and 2 where to my recollection DP rapidly became completely irrelevant and plot/talk topics were the only things gating your CS progress.

The synthesis conversations are a given, however the items themselves were almost totally worthless. I don't recall AT1 much, but in AT2 equipment and accessory items ended up being notable upgrades. In AT3, stuff you find in Phase I ends up lasting until Phase IV. Even the 'ultimate' weapons you get from Akane in AT3 are barely worth mentioning.

>I do not see how they "recycled" dungeons outside the backtracking, though.

In phase I and II, it's not so bad. Phase III and IV you go to the same areas 3-5 times each. And AFAIK, there's no 'prevent random encounters' item like in AT2 so you're stuck loading the battle screen and hitting escape 15 times an area.

AT3 did probably have the best characters, minus Jacquili, which is it's sole saving grace. It's really too bad Tyria/Ar Ru don't join until the last 4-5 hours, as I didn't feel like redoing all the synthesis again for her. You definitely need more DPs this time around though, it was the only AT game I had to do extra grind to complete them (fucking optional 6000 DP event in Finnel 4). Which isn't a good thing with that horrid battle system. Luckily you can just run from everything in Phase IV until the XP Shell, then fight there as the enemies give 1000-2000 DP per battle. The only stumbling block is the Ar Ru battle.

I agree with you though - 99% of the items crafted are useless. The only items I actually bothered getting were some of the healing items and that was only because I was playing on hard on my first playthrough. With NG+ you don't even need healing items so synthesizing becomes pretty much useless. I kind of wish the weapons/armour actually showed in combat - it would make it a lot more worthwhile if only for the aesthetics. I read that you can get the heroine's true ends with a 2:1 heart ratio and then accept her Cosmosphere confession, or you can deny it for Cocona's end, or simply avoid it for Tilia's end.

What I'm thinking about doing is exactly that, but I've a few questions:

Will I miss any extra scenes in Saki's route because she doesn't has all the 3 hearts?

Can I make a save close to the end, with the 2:1 ratio, and reload it after I'm done with one ending so I don't hafta replay Phase 4 as a whole? And from there simply dive into Saki and accept her confession, finish Tyria's CS and accept her confession after done with Saki, and disregard everyone for Cocona?

I mean, if I don't miss extra scenes or anything, that'd really save me some time.

>> No.7185106

>>7185101
I don't think you miss any scenes. The only one thats missable is if you dont get 3 hearts in normal end.

>> No.7185108

>>7185101
You should be able to. Also the deciding factor between Tyria and Cocona's end is just whether or not you accept Tyria's confession or whatever in her cosmosphere. You get Cocona's if you don't fulfill the conditions for any other ending. You don't necessarily have to reject Saki. (As long as you don't accept her, of course.)

In phase 2 give 2 hearts to someone and then make a save before entering the rinkernator. Give 3rd heart to the person with the other two and continue until before the Ar Ru fight then make a new save, grab normal end then reload this save and power through to true ending. Reload from the rinkernator save then give your heart to the other girl (2:1) then go through the game as you normally would - just make a save point before accepting Tilia (and before Tilia's two choices for her Normal/True endings). This method gets all trophies and extra scenes too, if you're just looking to see the endings then you could just instantly go with 2:1 and do it all in one save and just make a different save for each confession accepted via cosmosphere/binary field.

>>7185254

That is correct. I've already pre-ordered it but I'll be curious to see how the translation of it considering there's 10 pages or so of text. Here's a kind of preview/review of it:

If I understood you correctly, you're suggesting that I do the True End for Saki with a 3:0 ratio, then reload a Rinkernator save, get 2:1, and get Cocona's and Tyria's endings in said save, right?

That's what I was thinking of doing at first, but the 2:1 True End method saves me some time- however, I was afraid I'd miss certain extra scenes and events.

The choice is too hard, I already missed on Tilia's awesomeness once, I don't wanna do so again ;___;

>> No.7185722

>>7185711

Well as I said the 3:0 method nets you the trophy and an extra scene for her normal route. The 2:1 method, albeit faster, misses you some trophies (or so I'm told) and the extra scene for the person you gave 2 hearts to. I personally did the 3:0 route while abusing air sprays and browsing the internet whilst running through locations since I know directly where to go after the first playthrough. You'd be surprised how quick the game ends if you skip all scenes with the skip button and avoid 95% of fights (and run the other 5%).

As implied in her Cosmosphere many times, she turns into a human and shares the body with Sakia Rumei onee-sama. The wills of the planet would leave, but only after a few years since they all want Aoto's cock or something.

Saki and Aoto swore their marriage oath in Aoto's hometown with only the 2 of them, and Aoto promises to love her forever, and she tells Aoto she loved from the beginning.

Aoto makes fun of Saki's ability to generate weird images and stories, and the scenario above starts.

Right, now I'm getting confused. What exactly warrants a will to become a human? I know they all pretty much lust after Shirou's penis, heck even Soma confesses to you that she loves you. But how is 'turning into a human' any different than being a will? They're both sharing the body, they're both depleting their energy at an exceeded rate etc. So what exactly makes Saki special compared to the other 4 wills?

Infact thinking about it surely they'd gain a body after returning to the planet like Ar Ru.. right? Or is she just a special case for no reason other than to sing Ec Tisia during the ending?

>>7189232

There is no real story, it's just a way of fans to communicate with the game developer, Akira Tsuchiya. There's a handful of 'rare characters' that appear but otherwise it's usually the main characters of the games answering questions submitted by fans. After AT3 was released Tsuchiya noticed that it was getting a little difficult to fit everyone in but he's trying to maintain swap everyone around.

The TKS itself is on the Ar Portal website (that's the official Ar tonelico series JP website) and is shown in a regularly updated column at http://ar-tonelico.jp/ap_contents02.htm.. Users ask questions at the bottom of the form for various sections and Tsuchiya does his best to answer them like the true bro that he is.

From what I remember both Saki and Tilia have the same problem their cosmosphere is in the third tower and not in the first one like every other Reyvateil, except IPDs.
What happens is that after the planet restoration the third tower starts to power down untill finally the servers where Tilia's cosmosphere resides shut down as well, and because Saki's one is there as well they are bound to simply drop like puppets in few years.
This is a no issue for Finnel as her cosmosphere is in the first tower and that will continue to work until it breaks down.

Ah yes, I completely forgot this. The new novel explores the idea of saving Tilia from her cruel fate though, I think. Okay, so. Tilia and Saki (Sakia) share the same SH server, which is actually in the Tower of Harvestasya somewhere. Now, the third Tower (Tilia's body) will be destroyed once Tilia runs out of energy to sustain it, which turns out to be about 5 years after AT3 ends. The plot of the AT3 light novels is the cast of the series working together to save her. I assume they will address Saki in there as well - I find it difficult to believe they'd let one of the main heroines die without a mention. He does mention in TDR9 or 10 that outside of Saki's true ending, she was going to return to the planet as a will ten years or so after AT3 ended, which means maybe Sakia would take over, but she's still in that SH server.... Anyway, I'm sure the light novels deal with her somehow.

The SH server for the Betas and Third Generations of Sol Cluster is actually in the Tower of Origins. The Tilia drama CD establishes that the Tower of Origins continues to function, floating up in the air, even after the Third Tower is destroyed, so Finnel, Akane, and so on are all fine.

I should be getting my copy of the light novels this week, so I'll post a summary before too long.

I don't really remember those. Was it just a scene with the girl you picked and Lyner living happily ever after?

Also, AT3 could've pulled off a fake credits with the Normal ending, was it not because it opted to do every conclussion and climax in the 4rth Phase.

.. huh, so it is. Never actually noticed that. Croix probably made it for her for her leaving for Sol Cluster.

>>7191155

It showed you a really small scene with what everyone did afterwards otherwise there was nothing much to talk about in regards to the ending. Misha goes travelling/singing, Aurica sets up a shop or something and Shurelia just continues her administrator duties. Whoever you pick just has Lyner attached to her.

Also the fake credits wouldn't work with the normal ending because regardless of who you choose one of the main characters will die so the game couldn't continue on after the credits for the true route. Credits might roll after you stop Saki singing and enter the true route but they'd feel out of place compared to AT1 where you genuinely felt like the game had ended before it throws a plot twist in your face and the game continues.
