Even though yukkuris are fictional, they are a stand-in for animals/small children. People who enjoy this kind of thing probably also enjoy pulling the wings off of flies, or hitting children until they are bruised, or putting out lit cigarettes on their children's skin.

It's one thing to discipline a pet (or child) by scolding them or spanking them, but it's another thing entirely to beat them unconscious or torture and kill them just for doing something like chewing up an article of clothing, or making a mess on the carpet.

It's the principle of the thing, man. And once again, those yukkuris were just trying to live their lives and take it easy in peace. They weren't bothering anyone. And yet, the humans in that comic have set up a torture facility of sorts for yukkuris, just to satisfy their own sick needs to overpower smaller, helpless creatures.
It's not really the killing that gets to me, though. We kill animals for food, that's just survival of the fittest. But we don't want to cause them suffering, so we make it quick.
