Just finished Phase 2, it was great.
I went with Luca, because girls pretending to like someone and then falling in love with them for real is my fetish.
She's an interesting character, on the surface she's not as cute as the other girls, but getting in her head, and seeing that she's an actual, flawed human being, whose faults are something more than just quirks to make her
more moe, makes up for everything.

The translation is pretty bad, though bearable.

Out of curiosity, approximately how long is AT2?

I sort of ruined Ar Tonelico 1 for myself by barreling through it in three sessions of playing. Not enough time to digest the drama, so to speak. I'm sort of wondering how to pace myself with the sequel now, since it'd be a horrible waste to not get everything possible out of my one and only first run through such a good game.

>> No.7135692

I finished the game in 40 hours. I didn't got all IPDs nor all the synthesis items and I play at a slow pace.

>>7135642

With my playthrough I had dirty reyvateils, no girl power and I didn't dive into anyone past level 5 and it took me around 26-30 hours. I got around 45 or so IPDs too. Did the Cloche route, not that it matters, and also did the extra Frelia 'cosmosphere'. This was me exploring all possible corners of areas though so I'm sure you could cut down on this time by just going direct to your destination and using no encounter items. Obviously I missed out on a handful of talk topics though (80% IPDs, bath topics etc.) so if you're looking for a full route clear you're probably looking at around 40+ hours just to grind the extra topics and such. The only reason I played as I did was because I wanted to do 3 routes in one save to save myself time whilst giving myself a decent challenge after facerolling with vanguards in AT1. Speaking of which I really should get around to doing Luca's route some time..

>> No.7135853

>>7135642

It's been two years since I played them but to my recollection 2 is a bit longer. I could just be thinking that because it's split into five phases rather than three and there are more significant plot events in 2 that I can recall off the top of my head.

2 arguably has a bit more replay value if only in that you can't max out every cosmosphere in one play, though.

>> No.7135859

>>7135808

>Speaking of which I really should get around to doing Luca's route some time..

Same. Playing 3/Quoga is making me want to go back and replay 2 and possibly also 1. I'll probably throw those runs in-between my re-runs of Quoga to get all endings.

>> No.7135876

>>7135859

I still haven't seen Aurica's route either so I may just do the same. I'm curious how AT3 works though since I'm only in phase 2 Been finishing up MGS4 but can you do the same 2-3 routes in one run like AT2? I know there's a bad end that seems easy enough to get but is it possible to get the true/normal/Cocona end all in one playthrough with some tactical save scumming?

>> No.7135960

>>7135876

Quoga makes it easier in that not only can you New Game+, you can New Game+ to the start of phase 2 (which is before any ending-deciding choices happen) or right before the battle against MYU (a boss that you have a time limit to kill, fail to do so and you can't get the true end, only normal or bad.) NG+ lets you keep experience, money, and DP, but items/CS progress/etc. are reset to how they were at that point (essentially your save file keeps three game states- start of phase 2, MYU, current save.)

The full explanation of how the endings work can be found here: http://artonelico.isisview.org/viewtopic.php?f=144&t=1822

The fastest way to get every ending requires a mix of tactical save scumming and NG+ing.

>> No.7136018

>>7135642
>>7135692
I finished the story portion in about 35-40 hours so that's probably around the right mark. By that I mean the chosen route, 3rd, and optional cosmosphere.
I know that my AT1 save was a bit less since I was surprised at AT2's length, but I can't give you numbers since my PSMenu-k partition seems to have died.
Getting all the IPDs, items and talk topics probably took another 10+ hours without using a guide, but I probably wouldn't count those.
I haven't seen my crystal chips boot up screen in forever. I guess I should play those ps2 games that are still sitting there.

>No additional ending scene this way, not recommended.

Why do you do this to me, Gust? Making me choose between speed or completion.. urgh. I think I'll just Bad/Normal/True for Finnel this playthrough then just power my way through the game with NG+ with 2:1 with Saki then I'll just abuse saves to get Cocona/Tilia/Saki's endings. Not really fussed missing out on a scene for Saki since I don't really like her anyway.. Thanks for the link.

Heart point 3 and the normal end are only ~3 hours apart, so you can give Girl A the first two heart points, make an alternate save just before giving out point 3, give it to Girl A, get her normal end, reload, give point 3 to Girl B, get Girl A's true end via cosmosphere maxing, NG+ to MYU, then do a Tyria/Cocona run of phase 4 via save scumming.

Canonically, Rorona is 28 at the start of Atelier Meruru.

That is just a little outside their target demographic's strike zone, so to speak. If the game lasts another 5 years, she'd be 33. I'm sure there are other reasons for her lolification, but that probably played into it.

I'd say it's because AT3 progresses along the lines of one continuous plot, at least from my current experience. AT1 and AT2 however had you hitting massive bosses at the end of each phase like it was the end of the game then BAM, new phase shoved in your face taking you in a new direction. It does feel kind of fast though, I'll admit. I was only playing for a few hours and I was in phase 2 and I had accomplished nothing - I was genuinely wondering what the fuck was going on.

Yeah, that's what I like about the previous Ar Tonelico games. The first did it much better though but the second game made it up with its character interaction. I'm not seeing what the draw in the third game is yet...'

I think the issue is that shit just happens. Lyner and Croix were actively involved in progressing the plot most of the time, but Aoto's just sort of along for the ride, particularly in the earlier stages of the game. Like, you're rescuing Saki for the umpteenth time, and suddenly one of the major factions make a move with almost no build up or foreshadowing, and then you kick their teeth in five minutes later and that's that. Next!

In the long run it all falls into place, but as it's happening it seems kind of disjointed.

>> No.7138984

>>7138910

That's actually a good point- I only just started phase 4 so I can't comment on that, but phases 1-3 are pretty much just "Aoto escorts the Reyvatails up the tower, occasionally rescuing them when they're kidnapped."

It kind of reminds me of FF9 and 10 in that respect, where the story was centered more around the main love interest and the MC was just a bodyguard/moral support for the first 60-75% of the game at which point a story arc regarding the MC's origin starts up.

I'm not the person quoted above, but I went to the NISA forums to see if anybody else had the same problem, and apparently someone did. It was in an Ar Tonelico Qoga thread called "Bugs." They detailed their problem and how they solved it:

>I'm almost positive that's what caused it. I'll be a little more specific for everyone who wants to check it for themselves. I'm on Saki's route and was just able to dive into Tyria. I had already downloaded the DLC before installing the game. After going through the first 4 events in her cosmosphere you have a choice between two events that both say you receive a Hyuma from them. One always causes a crash out which i believe should happen. The other event that causes the problem is on the portal shrine space. When you first dive in it says you have new events from the DLC and that they are accessible at the shrine. With the DLC installed, when you go to the shrine it seems like they're not making any since with what they are talking about and you get a choice. I tried both and still didn't get the Hyuma. i then exited the game and deleted the game data from the game utility menu. After reinstalling the game and going through the same events i got a different conversation that made since on Portal Shrine and received the Hyuma at the end. Not sure if the choice matters for that event but i chose yes for those who want to test it.
