My view of sexuality is a rather unusual one.
I think sexuality is just a huge set of fetishes or likes/dislikes for certain features. This is due to a combination of environmental and genetic factors.
If you are genetically male and develop a male body, you will typically like the opposite sex, but this isn't because we have an image of a female programmed into our genes, that would be stupid and unfeasible. It's something a lot more low-level, like body odors, just like we detect pleasant and unpleasant smells and tastes. I'm not claiming humans react to conventional pheromones, but something close to it.
If you had some hormone imbalance when you were in the womb, you may end up with your brain developing with a certain small region of your brain being more of the opposite sex, just like messing with your hormones can change a lot of your body features, especially if started at a very young age.

Never thought of it like that, now that I really think of it all we really do have is a bunch of fetishes that are more common in one gender or the other or work better in one gender than the other one and there can be exceptions based on the person themselves.
