hello /jp/,

I just finished my first VN, Ever17. It was fucking awesome, especially the twists in the True Ending route. Did not see those coming.

What are some other VN's I should check out? I already downloaded Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night...saw the animes for both of them when they aired but most of it is a hazy memory to me. I am gonna start Tsukihime tonight

Check out this http://vndb.org/v/all

I suggest arranging visual novels by highest popularity or rating and starting from the top. Pick and choose which tags you like and don't like and have yourself a grand time.

I'd probably replace Umineko with Suck my Dick or Die.

We do get thousands of VN recommendation threads a day, so they're bound to blur together after awhile.

do people actually trust review scores posted on that site?
don't know how many hours i've wasted on shit games that got good scores there

Remember11 is in the same universe as Ever17, and is basically the opposite in terms of pacing.

Fucking awesome from the start.
Bad ends everywhere.
True ending doesn't resolve anything.

>> No.7114469

If you have a DS, or a DS emulator you should check out 9 hours 9 persons 9 doors. I believe it's from the same writers as Ever17. If not, it has a similar plot, but I believed 999 was better.

It's bad, but asking /jp/ is in no way better, lol uminekos, gss, remember11, c;h, swan shit, etc.

At least go by scores on egs instead of vndb. Japanese have superior taste.

>> No.7114557

i forced myself to endure c;h beginning to end. only did it because i liked s;g that much. was fucking terrible.
i had to drop gss after 1 route.
i had to drop ever17 after about 30mins.
yeah im impatient as fuck. tell me if i made a mistake on those last 2.

>> No.7114586

>>7114557
You did, GSS and Ever17 pick up a lot by the end, the beginning is slow so you get to be introduced to the characters.

>> No.7114590

>>7114557
not really, GSS is upper avarage, if it didnt cath you after route I doubt you would enjoy the rest of it. And ever17 is all about the few plot twist at the end, sure the twists are great but everything else is boring (read 4 first routes are boring) which in no way make up for it imo.
tl;dr ever17 is overrated but still good

>> No.7114595

>>7114557
I really liked GSS but if you didn't like the route you played there's not much reason to play through the whole thing. The two unlockable routes are better than the first three, but not enough so to be worth forcing yourself through the other three.

Ever17 has an amazing true route, but it's up to you to decide if it's worth sitting through 4 not so great and often boring routes. You might want to just play 999 instead. It's basically a more streamlined version of Ever17, shorter and much better pacing.

>> No.7114601

>>7114557
I remember that I first dropped FSN at the very beginning because it was just so boring. I picked it up about a month later and I never looked back

>> No.7114606

the 1 gss route that i did play was the girl with orange hair
always wondered if the girl voiced by kazane had a better route. might pick it up again if thats the case

Ever17>>>>999
The ending for 999 left a lot to be desired, there were open questions everywhere

>> No.7114619

>>7114557
I'm only on chapter 3 of Steins;Gate because my Japanese sucks too much to quickly read quantum physics, but so far it feels more like Ever17 than it does Chaos;Head.
Sometimes it feels like Takeshi Abo just reused tracks from Ever17 for S;G.
Both E17 and S;G use the same kind of pseudoscience that's kind of implausible, but still interesting. Better than antimatter delusional lightsabers at any rate.
But the S;G characters are more likable, and the pacing seems better (well, enough to keep me truding along with AGTH at least).

>> No.7114623

>>7114606
I thought they were about the same, quality-wise.

>> No.7114628

>>7114619
it'll start picking up around ch5~6
thing that i liked about s;g was that the pacing was so good.
i just lose interest in these games pretty quickly so pacing is #1 thing i look for

>> No.7114651

>>7114613
I didn't have many questions after the ending, it just shows you didn't really understand it. But if you had any questions (I had a few) you could have checked the official website where they did a Q&A with the writer for 999...

>> No.7114661

Remember11 has some really good pacing. The ending was a letdown, though.

>> No.7114673

as far as the goodness of the GSS routes go, I think its usually agreed that: Yuka > Yamiko > Kiika > Aoi > Akane (the one you played)

lol ill pick it up again eventually im sure
something just doesnt feel right when i leave a game unbeaten, even if i hated it

Saya No Uta. It's short and very atmospheric. One of the very few VN's I myself have enjoyed besides Ever17.
Sengoku Rance and Utawarerumono are fun RPG's with VN style storytelling, nothing too deep going on there but I enjoyed both. Especially Rance is incredibly addictive for its gameplay elements.
